I just love this as I'm physically challenged and can't rise from ...
I just love this as I'm physically challenged and can't rise from my office chair easily. I think I might even buy another one. It's very comfortable and just push the switch and you don't have to hold it down. The switch arm is moveable and is by the arm of my chair. I just return it back to level and it's ready to go again. I got the smallest one, I'm a size 14-16, and it fits perfectly. Buy this one! The motor is in the center of the cushion and feels hard and gives a low backache. So I strapped a dining room chair cushion on. I recommend you get a gel cushion and that should make it much more comfortable. I've used it daily for about 5 years and have had no problems with the motor, but a large or heavy person might have an issue with it. I turn chair sideways to back it up to a wall when going to stand up to stabilize it, and the left arm of my chair is against my desk so it won't swivel. I do the same to sit down. I can't sit or stand from anything that moves. Remember it's the back of seat that raises, so plant your feet tightly against the floor so you won't slide.

now I know better; Amazon not good for returns
Didn't work for the person we gifted it to, trapped him in a reclined chair and scared him out of ever wanting to see it again. But I have witnessed this product working very well for another user, so it's value to you might just depend on a variety of circumstances. Upon return of the product, Amazon decided to charge us a return fee. My negative review is 100% a reflection on Amazon and not on the product itself. It was a $26 failure. Oh well, now I know better; Amazon not good for returns! My advice now is to go to your local department store or pharmacy (a real bricks-n-mortar) for this kind of stuff. Boo Amazon, had previously thought more highly of you.

Uncomfortable but works well.
Personally, I found it uncomfortable to sit on. But, when I needed help to just get up it worked very well. It is sturdy and well made. If you can not stand up on your own and a gate belt lift proves dangerous, I would give this lift a try.

This really works!
We were looking for a lifting aid for my mother who would be visiting us. She has a chair at home that helps her get up and really needs this assistance instead of someone pulling her up by the arm (and hurting her in the process). This does exactly as it claims. Both my husband and I tried it out in several different chairs - there is a hundred pound difference in our weight and several inches in height. The seat lift worked perfectly for both of us. It is a nice, easy, smooth lift and will put you on your feet in a more upright position (I notice when people struggle to lift out of a sitting position, they are bent over forward and risk falling). My mother is in her mid-80's and not very strong. She did not require any assistance when using this lift. It is a pretty comfortable seat and has substantial weight so it does not move around. It fits in a lot of different seats. Highly recommended!

Work ok but just wasn't enough.
This woked out of the box as designed I believe. I tried it and it does help, but my 90 year old neighbor simply just couldn't get it right I guess. I don't think it works good for recliners or anything with a deep plush/leaned back kind of thing. It's just not enough lift to do much good. I think it is worth a shot if it's just a straight chair or before you buy a $2,000 lifting recliner.

Waste of a lot of money!!
After surgery my husband needed help getting up and we needed something urgently. Like several others I failed to read the reviews as I normally do. This is a complete waste of money and canโt be returned which also says something about the company!! It wobbles and is unsteady, adds 4โ height to the chair so feet dangle, and the seat is extremely uncomfortable. This product should be taken off the market as I think itโs completely unsafe for elderly or compromised individuals who are the intended users. The box it arrived in was a mess as well, as someone else pointed out. An expensive lesson learnedโฆ..ALWAYS read the reviews which I normally do but didnโt this time.

and it is working fine so far
I got one of these for my mother, it jammed up the first day; so I returned it. I got another one of these for my mother, it again jammed up the first day, so I again returned it. Carex sent me yet another one, and it is working fine so far. My mother has arthritis in her knees, and the lift seat helps quite a lot. As for the jammed seats, there was some kind of manufacturing issue; what is merely inconvenient for me must be horrifying to Carex. They have certainly stood behind their product. They paid for return shipping, and did all they possibly could to help. I recommend this product, it takes the pain out of standing up. I know of two more people who have knee problems, and I've been suggesting this for them. The lift seat is really helping my mother, and is really worth having; and Carex stands behind their product.

it lasted 2days then malfunctioned!
This seat looks like it would be the most wonderful thing.to help a 90 year old . However after 2 days the seat stop functioning and was stuck in the upright position. No customer service for either the distributor or manufacter had any clue how to fix it or return it to the down position. After I dismantled it I got it back in the box. After 2weeks of hastling with the distributer I received a new one. This time it was used twice and once again stuck in the upright position. My advice go to anothe company. Do not spend your money here!

Very uncomfortable!
Although advertised that the seat was made comfortable by memory foam, it is not. The seat is hard. It has a tendency to teeter and I found that it caused back ache. This is definitely not a replacement for a lift chair. Additionally, when I tried to return the seat, I found out that it was non-returnable. So now Iโm out over $200 and am stuck with a useless lift seat.

a good purchase.
Works really well for my mu on the chesterfield. It is a bit tall for her in a rocking chair but, otherwise, a good purchase.

Looks like it would work, but in reality, not for frail elderly people
Bought this for my 101 y/o grandfather. He is rather weak, but still a large man. The concept looks like it would work, but we were not able to find a chair that this would work in that he felt safe using and that was comfortable. The seat itself isn't very comfortable for long sits, ie watching a movie. Once he was seated it was really hard for him to reposition himself because of the arms on the chairs. Armless chairs were dicey for sitting down because he can't turn his head to see where his butt is going and sometimes barely caught the seat. Wheeled office chairs were more comfortable because of the high back but would scoot out from under him. Non-wheeled chairs were to hard for him to move closer to the table after he was seated. We returned it and have contacted the DVA (Canadian) for help and they have an office chair with a built in lift system that might work. I think this chair would work for someone who still has good use of their arms and legs and a certain amount of strength but just can't lever themself to a standing position.
