Will this product dissolve carbon in a Diesel Particulate Filter?

it won't remove it from pistons, I don't know about diesel Particulate Filters

anyone ever try to clean the pistons with this product while still in the engine? my application is for antique or classic cars.

It is best to remove and immerse the pistons rather than try to do it while in the engine. Piston Kleen is water based.

Can this be used to spray directly into a running engine as decarbonizer?

In my experience, your best bet might be with straight water on a warm engine. I do not believe this product will have the immediate chemical reaction you desire in a short time span. Hope you are also aware to keep the engine RPM up when pouring any liquid into an engine as to reduce to possibility of hydro-locking the engine. You are probably also aware that hydro-locking an engine may result in bent connecting rods. Generally this product requires an 8 hour soak time at about 100F temp to work on most items.
