Excellent book for kids and adults that grew up without a father
Bought this to help mentor a friend's son who was adopted and has bitterness / abandonment issues concerning his birth father. Also helped me better understand not only some kids but some of my adult friends the also grew up without a father. It is amazing the impact a father has on his kids.

This 'Manual' is an absolute must have to accompany the book. We intend on using it both on an individual basis, as well as a small group discussion guide. Wow, what a powerful message. Truly makes you dig deep into your heart & soul and ponder issues like you never have before.

The Way of the Wild at Heart Manual
A companion to John Eldridge's book, The Way of the Wild Heart, this companion workbook is a good supplement to the text. As the workbook suggests, the best way to use it is as a more in-depth examination of the issues unearthed after a first read of the book. I went through it with a group of men and it did help. The questions take the reader to a further depth of self-examination and, hopefully, conviction and release, but be prepared: this is not for the searcher. You have to have a clear direction for your growth. The personal commentary supplied by the workbook's co-author, Craig McConnell, is pertinent but can take you down deep side-issues that may not help. In that regard this is a little like going through boot-camp twice, once to get it over with, and then a second time for what you didn't do well the first time. It does not read like Eldridge had as much to do with this workbook as the prior one that was a companion to his book Wild at Heart, but the material taken from the book does not have a "cut-and-paste" feel, either. The flow of the book is good, and is helpful to a deeper examination of one's masculine journey in God.Two niggling issues: Eldridge's stereotypical examples of "guy" activities requiring camouflage and sporting equipment continues with the workbook - Michelangelo and Luciano's vocations should get as much encouragement as Bud and Joe. And while we want to raise up strong Sons, raising strong daughters feels like an afterthought - the ability for a Dad to "play Barbies" should be as important as providing a go-cart.

My husband shared this book with me and some of its contents. He absolutely loves this book and helped him get through a tough time in our marriage.
