They want people who have a problem to go to the web where they've posted a video on connecting the pole pieces. I've now used these poles for TWO years. They have been with me, covering over 1200 miles, within those two years, and I couldn't be more pleased. They are extremely durable, dependable and comfortable. To have rubber hand grips, the comfort is exceedingly surprising. I use rubber tips over the metal tips to help prevent wearing of the metal, bc the metal is not replaceable.... Problem solved. I have NEVER, NOT ONCE had these poles slip from the height I set them at. Once you lock them in place, there is no need to worry at all about safety on decent. I've used them crossing rivers, creeks, in snow, in sleet, on very rocky trails,..... you name it. It almost seems to good to be true to get them at sick a great price.... But em.
