Jim Green Razorback Work Boots – Tough, Quality Boots That Are Worth the Break-In
I’ve been wearing these Jim Green Razorback work boots for a while now doing electrical work, and I’m genuinely impressed. These are very nice, durable, hand-stitched boots that feel like real high-quality gear. Once they’re broken in, they’re incredibly comfortable and supportive for being on your feet all day. The break-in process took me about two weeks. During the first week or so I developed some blisters on the back of my heels. What worked for me was putting athletic tape directly on bare skin on the heels, then pulling my socks over the tape. That completely stopped the rubbing and let the boots mold to my feet without further issues. Now that they’re fully broken in, they feel amazing – like they were made for my feet. These boots are absolutely the best bang for your buck in the work boot category. I highly recommend them if you’re in the trades. They seem especially well-suited for working in dirt, gravel, or uneven terrain. If you’re mostly on flat concrete all day, like some jobs, you might want to consider a mock toe instead for a little different fit and feel on hard surfaces. But for general trades work with mixed conditions, these Razorbacks are excellent. Solid construction, great durability, and they look good too. If you’re on the fence, go for it – just be ready to put in a short break-in period, and you’ll be rewarded with boots that last. Highly recommended! After several more weeks of daily use, I wanted to add one note on the insoles. The stock insoles that come with these boots are pretty horrible – thin and lacking in support. The boot itself is made very well and the overall construction is excellent, but you really do need to replace the insoles for proper comfort and support. I picked up some Superfeet All-Purpose High Impact Support Insoles (Orange) – the trim-to-fit orthotic arch support inserts – and they work awesome. The difference is night and day, especially when I’m standing on ladders or walking up and down stairs all day. I still love these boots and think they’re an awesome choice overall, but plan on getting a good pair of new insoles right away for the best experience.

Extremely comfortable, well built
This is my third pair of Jim Greens. Like the others, it has high quality leather, excellent construction for this price level, and supreme comfort. Brand new so can’t speak to long term durability yet. The sole is pretty stiff as new, but expect it will get more flexible with wear. Listed as running small, so I got a 9 .5 rather than my normal 9, and fit was perfect. Better to err on the slightly larger size, as the full lacing allows cinching up tight for a custom fit, and thicker socks are normally worn with type boot. It is a wider boot, particularly in the toe box compared to normal D width, but that room is part of what adds to the comfort. While it looks very wide to the wearer looking down at them while on, observers do not really notice the wideness. My wife gave them a big thumbs up when I tried on for her. The insole provided is nothing fancy, but fine for the price. It’s removable, so you can add fancy cushioned orthotic insoles if you wish. It’s not a low profile boot, especially with the bright green laces, but they look great with jeans/ outdoor wear. Similar to old style alpine hiking boots, but much softer and more comfortable. Can’t beat value for price.

Rubs ankle and toe and not the softest insoles but all can be fixed! Damn good boots regardless 👌
Really pondered giving 4 stars because 2nd day in i went to squat and it put a crease that made it dig into my bid toe/foot where it connects lol and was painful! I just went to Walmart and bought these weird toe guards and now ive been able to wear them comfortably! It definitely needed insoles but there was ample room to add it and also the toe guards... so with some things ti add it ended up being my favorite of them all. Pretty decent pair of boots although a tad heavy when I grab them but feels okay on my feet I ain't no b*tch lol so they work well so far about 2 weeks in. The back does in fact grab your socks and rub your heel pretty bad but I find if you keep the top loop loose it give enough room for your foot to move up without grabbing. I love the 3 hooks I looked and tested many boots and found the loop near the ankle close to the foot gives good grip and enough tightness to not have them flop around. Color is nice I need oil it up but im not too worried about what people think. Love the green laces makes them unique for sure. Over all id say 4 stars maybe 4.5 but ima give it 5 they're decent 👌

Very Well made...Durable and built like a Tank..but not the most comfortable
My problem with shoes is I need a pair that keeps my feet/knees/hips from hurting. If I grabbed 10 pairs of shoes/boots....9 would almost kill my feet. To say I'm picky about footwear doesn't cover it. I decided I'm tired of buying $60 shoes 3 times a year(cause I wear cross trainers out pretty quickly). So I thought I'd try a pair of decent/moderatly expensive boots and see if I could get some years out of them. The reviews on these were fairly good so I have given them a try. The first thing you notice is how well made they are. These ain't thin/cheap/plastic leather. These are real. I mean built like a tank Leather boots that will last a while. I bet each boot is 2 pounds...EZ. The Toe box is wide by my long skeleton feet are that so for me it's a perfect fit. Size wise, my 12 is exactly what these boots were....size 12. Perfect fit...No 1/2 size bigger or smaller. I guess every foot or preference is different. The one negative to me on these boots is a big one. These boots just aren't very comfortable. I'm guessing if your a younger person and haven't had feet issues so far...you'd be fine. But i'm over 10 years into feet issues and comfort matters. The main issues is feet/knee/hip pain but oddly enough...when I put these on...it doesn't exist. How can these be uncomfortable but not make my feet/knees/hips not hurt? I don't know....don't care. That's my need in a shoe/boot. I solved the comfort problem by slapping a pair of gel insoles inside. They work but the front of the foot goes "upwards" and basically rubbed 2 toes raw from the leather...Basically it's a tight fit. So I found a pair of heal/cushion inserts and it's helped a lot. These boots seem to fall lower in the heal than than the front. I'm gonna keep these boots casue I know they'll last and with time, hopefully they'll break in and I can stick some full inserts in and have full foot comfort. As it stands, these boots are worth the money. Just remember the break in period and be aware of the comfort...everyone's idea and level of it...is different.

Excellent boots for the value
I've had them for about a month and a half now and they've been put through the paces. I'd been looking for a pair of reliable work boots/hikers/shit kickers and seen Jim Green's presence in this group so I figured I'd give them a shot. They just recently got distribution within the states so I was able to order a pair through Amazon. Price: $130 USD Sizing: True to size. The last these are built on is quite roomy in the toe portion. Pros: -Uniquely South African, eccentric branding/colors -Goodyear welted -Quality lug sole, very durable -Padded ankle and tongue, the reinforcement makes them very easy to slip on and off- very comfortable to walk in because of the padding -Leather lined, yellow calf lining in ankle portion -Strong eyelets and speed hooks, I wasn't able to get them to bend by hand -Celastic toe- steel toe versions also available -Decent full grain leather, not Red Wing quality but good considering the price point. -Minimal break-in required, as soon as I got them I was able to put them on and go to work Cons: -Creasing along welt- this may be due to the custom orthotics I have inside of them, however. -Prominent grain break on the vamp of the right boot -***Stock insole is low quality, I immediately swapped them out for some custom insoles instead. Verdict: Fantastic boots for the price. It's always a good idea to temper your expectations if something seems too good to be true, but these boots were a nice surprise. To the best of my knowledge the creasing/grain break could just be an issue with my pair, but ultimately it's a non-issue for me- I bought these to be work boots and hikers so I don't expect them to be pretty anyway. ***As far as the insole is concerned, Jim Green actually reached out to me (I also posted this review on YouTube) to let me know that the next batch of boots heading stateside will have leather/poron inserts- this won't change the price, either. Really cool to see them address criticism, good on them.*** One last thing regarding the construction- the midsole isn't leather, since it's $130. I'm not sure what the material is but it's flexible and seems to be pretty durable, so I doubt there will be any long-term issues.

Nice hiking boot
The first morning of wear was for 3 mile to include a meadow, trail and gravel. The meadow was heavy with dew and my feet stayed dry. They did well on larger gravel and just fine on the trail. The insole did not provide much support, I will need to add supports (normal for my feet). Evening trail was made up of sand, fine silt, mud and uneven ground. I added a pair of Valsole planter fasciitis inserts which helped. Another 3 mile and the boots preformed well. I will note that these boots do need a break in period. I would not want to use them on a longer hike the first day. Common for thicker leather boots. I purchased these as a second pair of hiking boots so I can alternate boots. The first pair are Vasque which are 20 years old and on their 3 sole. The new boots will get about 10 miles every other day. Sizing - I normally wear a 9M for athletic shoes and keen boots. Work boots are normally 8.5 E. For the Jim Green’s a 9 fit correctly. The toe box is more like a clog with plenty of space for the toes to spread out. This was a pleasant surprise that I did not pick up on it in the photos. The leather is thicker than I was expecting. A check on their website says 2.2 mm full grain with 1.6 mm calves leather on the inside. Smooth surface with a rougher texture on the inside to allow some grip with the socks to prevent the heel from slipping. The sole is a larger lug which appears and feels like it is hard enough to last with enough softness to grip. At first I thought it to be a Vibram but it has the Jim Green logo. A check on their web site showed it is produced by Jim Green. I purchased this boot because it could be re-crafted. I was surprised when the boot arrived to see that it had a Goodyear welt. The speed hooks and eyelets used are heavier duty so they should not give any problems. The tongue and ankle have padded leather. The insole does not offer much support. Not that big of a deal as I normally use a support insole in my hiking boots anyway. These boots will require a break in period. I would not pick these to go on a long hike the first time out. Overall this appears to be a well crafted boot that should last many years for less than $200. I had been using Keens my second boot, but they only lasted 8 months at $130 and were never water resistant. I am not sure about the green laces, but will keep them to see if they grow on me.

Right out of the box
Oh man do they need breaking in. They are the stiffest boots I have in encountered. Was not overly surprised because all the reviews mention that. They were not exaggerating. Haven't had boot this heavy in a long time either, fricken tanks! If I survive break-in these things will have for a long while. I got them on sale off the Amazon Jim Green store for $30 cheaper than the normal price. Been eyeing them for a while. At that discount I figured they must be blemished or returns at that price. They arrived and looked great and we're new. No glue over flow at the sole and the only lose thread was on the tongue JG label. In Merrell boots and shoes I wear a 14 and in the Razor Backs a 14 is about right, maybe a smidge longer. So far I have two complaints. Everyone complains about the insole. It seems JG has tried to improve them with one with a more formed heal. In removing the insole, the insole's glue sucks and my fingers split the removable insole while taking it out and were greeted with the sticky glue. I had planned on getting my normal insoles anyway but will continue with the JG insoles during break-in just to see how they do. Second complaint is that the outside left heel feels a little high inside. Seems like something that will break in. I am impressed by the workmanship. Will update after the boot breaks me in. Update; after wearing them a few hours around the house, felt confident enough to go for a 3 mile walk in town. Still a stiff but the feel much better. Couple more days and I'll take them on a hike. Also, when you see them at a good discount, there will be something wrong with them, at least mine had damage. I did find an impression from something mechanical or heavy on the strip going up the back ankle, it's hard see unless you look for it up close. Since I'm using it for hiking and backpacking, I don't really care about the damage and I'm happy with discount. Just mentioning the damage so if someone see's a $30 discount they know why. UPDATE; Review after 25-30 miles. Took off one star, still pretty stiff but holding up well. Took about 10 miles before I could wear them all day. At 5-8 miles they still get a little painfull. Just did 8 miles this morning, they are getting better. Will probably need be another 10 miles before I feel comfortable taking them out for 20+ mile weekend backpacking trek. The newer style insole that came with these really sucked. Ended up putting in some insoles from a pair of Jim Green Vellies that I had, seemed to do better but still not ideal. I usually go with Dr Scholl plantar fasciitis insoles but those are a little too thin in the toe area in these boots, the soles of these boots just don't flex enough yet. Even at 25-30 miles of mostly city walking, there is virtually no wear showing on the sole.

Great value quality boots
This was my first pair of Jim Greens bought in Dec 2021. This review is in Feb 2024. I wear size 12, and they fit perfectly in that size. My favorite features are the wide toe box and the full leather lining. They are quality heavy duty boots, not sneakers. They require a short break in period, but are super comfortable and tough. The insole was pretty thin, so I switched it out with an aftermarket version. I wear them when bank fishing in tall brush and nasty terrain. My feet are well protected and i can stand comfortably for hours. They can start to feel heavy, but that’s fine by me. I clean and condition them a few times a year, and after three years, they are still going strong. I anticipate needing a resole in a few years, but these should last me many more years to come. I liked these so much that I ended up buying a pair of African Rangers for daily work boots.

Amazing design and quality!
Have worn them for a few weeks now, the fit gets better with each day, they have molded to my foot and are very comfortable for their purpose (work, casual). Don't forget to train the tongue and give the leather some time to break-in. The fit is wide but true to size. I treated with shoe grease, which yielded a beautiful caramel colour. I expect to have these boots a long time- look forward to putting them on in the morning.

Bottes robustes et bien construites
Ajout a mon review. Je les ai traitées avant de les porter avec le baume Jime Green. J'ai dait 2 petites rando de 4.5 et 5.2 km pour les casser. Le fit est parfait, jai pris la même taille que mes souliersnde course. Je les adores

Good BIFL boots
They take some breaking in, but it's a solid well constructed boot. Wide fit. Real leather insoles and real rubber treads. Goodyear welt, so able to have the sole replaced. Great boots.
