I don't know. Do know it was developed to be able to be used by cancer patients who needed a safe dye and know it is incredibly gentle on your hair and keeps it shiney and holds colour for ages if used with the lock.

how long does the colour last?

This is the longest lasting colour I've ever used. Normally the bright colours fade fast. This stuff is great. I wash my hair every day/ every other day. Colour has lasted for a few months.
