Battery packs, mAh's, and pass through technology
The Mophie Juice Pack Air is both a protective case as well as a power pack.As a case, it's a bit bulky. As a power pack it capable of storing 1700mAh, but what does that mean? The mAh (milli-Amp-hour) is the capacity of the battery pack itself. It's the amount of energy it can store. It's not an indication of the rate at which it is consumed (or transferred to your device). Before you make a purchase, you should find out how much stored power you will need.Device Models & Battery Capacity:iPhone 5 = 1440mAhiPhone 5S = 1560mAhiPhone SE = 1642mAhMophie Models and Battery Capacity:Juice Pack Helium = 1500mAhJuice Pack Air = 1700mAhJuice Pack Air Plus = 2100mAhSpace Pack = 1700mAh (+ 16/32/64Gb memory)Why is iPhone 5C not listed? This model of Mophie will not fit a iPhone 5C, the dimensions of the phone are ever so slightly different.Other things to keep in mind about power packs in general. All Li-Ion batteries will lose capacity over time. This means that your iPhone will not be able to reach 1440, 1560, 1642mAh over time. At the same time, the Mophie product will also lose the ability to recharge to maximum capacity of 1500, 1700, 2100mAh. The rate of degradation of each device will depend on how each product is drained.Pass Through charging. Mophie products have pass through charging capability and states that it can charge both device and power bank at the same time. So for example if your mophie was at full charge and your iPhone is empty, you can plug in as if you're charging the Mophie and it will actually charge the iPhone. Or will it? If you do this, the iPhone will indeed show that it's charging and will even charge the iPhone at the 1A (output) specs! But what is charging the phone? The power from the outlet, or the battery pack? The truth about pass through charging is that only the device that's plugged in will charge. So while it's appearing that both devices are being charged at the same time, they are but not from a single source. The power outlet is actually charging only the power bank, and the power bank is charging the phone (daisy chain effect). So what right? Well this goes back to degradation. Batteries degrade through use, the wear from being drained and recharged. So if you use pass through charging a lot, you're putting a lot of strain (unnecessarily on your battery pack - i.e. Mophie). The iPhone will be better off as it's only being charged and not drained. The net effect of pass through charging is that your battery pack will get a beating (it will deplete and recharge each time) and degrade at a quicker rate than the battery on your device.... which will lead to lower customer satisfaction. This is why many devices don't like to support pass through charging and why I would not recommend using it even if the device is capable of it.If you don't use a battery pack regularly I would definitely recommend you get the Juice Pack Air (1700mAh) or Juice Pack Air Plus (2100mAh) and stay away from the Helium (1500mAh) regardless of the iPhone model you have that this product supports. I would also recommend that you unplug your device as soon as it's fully charged, otherwise, while your phone battery is constantly draining from use, it's being constantly charged back up again by the battery pack (notice that the charging indicator is always on). The phone will not use the power directly from the battery pack (it's simply not capable of this). This will also lead to degradation in capacity for both batteries at a much quicker rate. If your phone does shut off to prevent overcharging, the effects of this will lesson, but still be present as charging will kick in again once the batter reaches 99% (albeit at a much slower pace since the phone is most likely in standby mode that uses minimal electricity). Using your phone while charging is also not the healthiest thing. Remember it's the constant depletion and recharging that promotes battery capacity degradation. If you do need to recharge your phone daily, it means that the phone's battery capacity is most likely greatly diminished. At this point you need to decide whether you should change the battery of your phone, or invest in a power pack with significantly more power (i.e. something that has at least 5000mAh) so that you can recharge your phone multiple times before the pack is completely drained (A 5000mAh power pack is actually quite small, about the size of a lipstick tube). Both are fairly cheap investments right now (around 10-15 bucks for either a replacement battery or a 5000mAh battery pack); however, one leads to voiding your warranty if Big Brother finds out.If you do decide that a external battery pack is the way for you, you should make sure that it suits your needs and that you get a good quality battery, otherwise the degradation of the battery pack will be rapid, you'll be unhappy, frustrated, disappointed, and you would have wasted your money. But mostly unhappy and frustrated...The Juice Pack Air is 3 stars to me mainly because of dual functionality. It's a case, and a battery pack. The capacity (1700mAh) is enough to fully charge my iPhone SE, but would be more ideal for the 5S model, providing a 140mAh buffer for the quicker degradation rate on the battery pack.I did purchase an external batter pack. If you're interested in seeing what I wrote there, my purchase was the RAVPower 20100mAh. Look for my handle: GaS Ginsters.

Works very well
This case beat my expectations in almost every way. We looked at these cases as a compromise for users who needed additional battery life on the road, but didn't want to carry around a bulky external battery. Our expectation was that we'd end up with a bulky, unsightly case with marginal charging capability. (So the bar was set pretty low)We have been pleasantly surprised by the Mophie Juice Pack Air. The base is bulky, but not much worse than many of the cases out there. For a battery case, it is very lightweight, with nice ergonomics. The base feels good in the hand, and in my opinion is actually more comfortable to hold than a naked iPhone 5. The case material has the rubberized feel of a Thinkpad, has a durable well constructed feel and nice clean lines. There is no screen cover, but the cover seems to provide very good protection. I have not conducted any drop tests, so I can't say for sure.I like the white LED charge indicator on the back of the case.Charging performance is very good, we found that when used as recommended in the instructions, we easily doubled the battery life of our iPhones.A few small nits on the device that kept it from a 5* rating-The on/off switch feels a little cheap and flimsy. A small detail, but you get the impression that this fragile button could fail.-The charger is micro USB (as opposed to lightning connector) I am conflicted as to whether this is a pro or a con. Being the geek that I am, I have a bunch of both of these cables laying around... and given the ubiquitous nature of micro USB, it may actually be advantageous to have the ability to charge the battery (and by extension your iphone) via Micro USB. However, if you're a minimalist and like to travel with as few devices and cables as possible, I think it's a negative to have to have the other cable with you. From an ease of use perspective, this is also one small thing that may trip up our users as we look to deploy these to our mobile workforce.-Headpone pass-through required for some headphone types. If you're using headphones with a 90 degree "L" bend in the plug, you'll need to use the headphone extension (provided) Props for including the extension, but again... one more cable to keep track of.I would recommend this case to anyone looking to get more battery life for their iPhone. There are less expensive options out there, but in my opinion, this option provides the fewest compromises for your money.

but it's pretty nice. It didn't hold the charge I was ...
Not everything I expected it to be, but it's pretty nice. It didn't hold the charge I was hoping for, and the bottom half became loose with the top half after about 2 months. Either than that, it's pretty good. Charges phone fast, and doesn't take long to charge at all. If you wanted one, I would recommend waiting for it to come on sale.

Great product for I phone 5s
I got it few weeks back. It's a good product for I phone users. We can also charge it separately while working. It charges phone 70%in single charge. I'm very comfortable with it. One should buy it if budget is not problem.

Very useful battery charge augmenter
Extends the charge of my iphone so I'm never left with a dying phone no matter how much I use it. Really well finished so doesn't adversely affect the aesthetics of my phone. Lovely rubberized finish. Battery gets really hot when charging the phone.
