    Quality you can feel

The telescopic pole is the key. Sturdy aluminum adjustable pole. You get to all branches easily.Convenient click on system for telescopic pole. The three level ratchet allows cuts of up to 2 inches.Get the pruner and the saw.I highly recommend the Berger tool system!

It is very well made, but a 40mm branch cutter?

I don't often write reviews but I paid £70 for this which isn't insignificant, so some quick observations for others:-1) Yes it is well made, but it's also heavy because of that. I'm quite a big chap and this on the end of a 12 foot pole is about my limit for swinging it about 12 feet above me. I can't imagine there are many people out there who could manage the leverage with a 5m pole, remembering that at some point you need to hold it with one hand whilst pulling the trimming rope with the other.2) All the Amazon photos show the cutter from one side only. There are actually 2 springs on the far side, a small one and a large one. I detached the small spring twice whilst positioning the cutter in amongst branches. Not really pleased about that.3) For pruning small branches (up to an inch or so) without a ladder then it works pretty well. I'm not convinced that anybody can cut 40mm at height because you are pulling so hard on the rope with a branch that thick that the extended pole pole bends like an archer's bow. I tried and managed to half-cut a couple of laburnum branches which were within what the jaws would accept, but after the first ratchet pull it was a struggle. So that's my review. I also have a small and very cheap pruner (non extendable, but I've used it with step ladders for years) and I was hoping that this would take away the ladder element of risk whilst also allowing me to cut bigger branches. In that respect it has been a bit of a disappointment. It's OK. Just remember it's heavy to hold at height because of the leverage (you of course are holding it at an angle as you don't want to be underneath) and I'm not convinced (apart from maybe with very soft woods) that anyone can cut a 40mm branch with this on an extended pole.

One of the best on the market

I have two quite large apple trees in my garden that I am trying to control otherwise I will need to employ an expensive tree surgeon to really trim them back in the future. Some time ago I invested in the Silky extendable pole saw with the lopper attachment and recently I replaced the lopper attachment with an Hyauchi lopper that fits exactly into that system and I regret that did this as it did not perform as expected. The problem is that if one switches brand then there is always the risk that say Berger attachment will not fit the Silky system so I took a chance and thought perhaps I can adapt-I took off the lower shaft of the Berger attachment fixed by nut and bolts and disassembled the Silky one (drilled out the rivets) and now I have a fit.The Berger attachment is made in Germany so I would expect it to be of good quality steel and assembled well with no need for adjustment-I am fairly happy but none of these attachments will handle a branch of 4 cms diameter at the end of a long pole that bends slightly and a pull cord using one hand.My apple trees might be tough but it cannot handle a branch beyond 3 cms diameter. With all these attachments one needs to ensure that the blade is coming on to the cut at 90 degrees rather than at an angle and if the blade does get stuck dont heave pull and shove too much to try to release otherwise the blade assembly nut will become stressed. The Berger attachment is probably one of the best on offer but a little more expensive than Silky. If you have another pole system other than Berger beware that you might or might not be able to adapt one system to the other with any success-I found that the Berger lower shaft will accommodate a circular shape end of pole into it whereas the Silky is more elliptical in shape hence why I had to take each apart and adapt.
