Brilliant. Love that the ending isn’t what you anticipate at about 3/4ths of the way through. Julia Quinn is truly a phenomenal writer/author. Truly enjoyed this book as I have all the others.I really should have read book 1 in the series first but wasn’t able to obtain it straight away. SO started with book number 2.

... from this time period and sometimes fall upon a great writer. Julia Quinn is my favorite writer
I read a lot of romance novels from this time period and sometimes fall upon a great writer. Julia Quinn is my favorite writer. When I need an uplift, I turn to one of her stories. How to Marry a Marquis is one of my favorite stories. It's light and funny, but has a great story line. The characters are so well developed, it is just a delight to read. As a matter of fact. I have read this more than once! I just love everything she writes. So if you are looking for a great book, this is the one. I own all of Julia Quinns stories. If you looking for a great dependable author, look no further than Julia Quinn. A side note. This book is better if you read How to Marry and Heiress. The main character of How to Marry a Marquis shows up in this book before How to Marry a Marquis. Enjoy them both! I did!

Great Julia Quinn with a Bridgerton Character
A fun story about a woman who finds herself in the distasteful position of needing to marry for money and of course finds love along the way. All the hallmarks of Julia Quinn: well drawn characters, especially the strong women, an entertaining plot and intelligent quips aplenty. As a bonus, Lady Danbury features prominently for fans of the Bridgerton series. Enjoy!

good story
A well-written story. The deception in the story was surprising, at least to start with. I will definitely read more from this author.

How to Rate this Book?
Edict 1 - download the whispersync w/ Audible for best experience. AWESOME!Edict 2- just know that the first 3/4 of the novel is off the hook funny and will have u laughing out loud...fair warning.Edict 3- the 80% mark where we all know is the heightened point for any potential conflict is what took this from a 5 star to sadly 4 star. Totally contrived and made me hate the h a bit where up until the conflict, she was incredible.Edict 5 - don't pass this one up. Download it now!!!

A great concept but tiring heroine
In truth, I was hoping for more, given the ratings and reviews I had seen, but to be honest, I found it an exhausting read and upon reflection, this also applies to other books by this author. The heroine in this story, like others, was exhausting. This was was both unfailingly clumsy (which stopped being funny very quickly and became plain tedious), but she also seemed far far too hyper for a woman of that era.The story concept was excellent. It's the storytelling that wore me out. For me, a good story is one that I begin and finish in one sitting because I can't put it down. But with this author, I find I have to stop reading before I am halfway through because I am too worn out.The hero was excellent, and his aunt was truly magnificent. The heroine's siblings were wonderful; and the cat utterly delightful. Even the minor characters who came into the story towards the end of the book were engaging and credible. But the heroine frankly let the story down for me - and that was long before she threw her childish tantrums when she finds out the hero's true identity. The other thing that niggled at me is that the fat, aging, mean squire who was the heroine's only hope when the story opens never actually appears in the story, so the tension in the story was diminished. The author is a talented writer, make no mistake - but I would like her heroine's far more if their rather extreme hyperactive or incessantly eccentric prsonalities were toned down a bit so that they were more aligned to the timeperiod.

Hilarious at times, loved it! Becomes a tad serious towards the end but the humour never fades. I would highly recommend this
