This is an unpaid rave. I paid for it, did not get it for free and have nothing to gain by this rave review except to offer it as a public service. This is probably my favorite Amazon purchase ever! I purchased it a couple of years ago at the suggestion of a naturalist who overseas a huge local park. I have been using this quite a bit for a few years now and although it's definitely more worn than it was originally, it remains very sharp and extremely effective. It has changed my gardening game. I use it instead of a shovel when I plant trees because it's better at cutting through underground layers of almost everything better than anything else. It can get rid of small old tree roots, but not large ones. I use it to plant flowers and to get rid of deep weeds because it's much better than any hoe or weeder I have ever purchased. Every time I'm done using it, I rinse it off and then use sanitizing wipes to thoroughly clean it and let it air dry before I put it away and this seems to keep it sharp, clean and as effective as the first day I bought it. I have recommended it too many people in my life who have purchased it since then and every single one of them tells me that they have had an equally positive experience. I wish I had known about this item before I bought my last well-reviewed but ultimately useless shovel because although this is a teeny fraction of the shovel's size, it is infinitely more effective and useful.

I'm a pro gardener, I'm on my 2nd barebones hori hori (my first one was completely worn after 5 years of use). Excellent build quality, this is a must have for weeding and plantings.

I like the Hori Hori but am very disappointed that it did not include the sheath. For the price and on a competitive site like Amazon I thought that it would have been included. For a little more I should have just bought from my local camping store and had the sheath.

It's beautiful, strong, bigger than I thought and cool. The handle was a bit loose when it arrived and after one use it all came apart. There is a screw at the top that wasn't tightened. I reassembled and it is much better now. *UPDATE* this thing won't stay together. There aren't enough threads on nut to hold onto the internal shaft. Maybe two threads actually reach it and then a simple bump makes it all come apart. Nothing like having a knife fly apart for safety in the garden. Super disappointed.
