I do not want to spend 6 hours and six bags of charcoal cooking my 60 lb. pig. Can I put an electric heater inside the box as a secondary heat source?

You can but I'm not sure how it would work? The last pig I did was 120 lbs 4 bags of Kingsford, and 4 hours you have to lift the charcoal try up and shovel off the ashes into a metal bucket every so often to keep the heat working.

what does the ambient temperature reach ?

Depends on how much charcoal you put on it Mine reaches well over 400 degrees I would recommend a longer cooking time than what they state We cooked our 50lb pig 8 hours and it was perfect

Will it fit a 100lbs pig?

I just did a 120 lb er today.it came out perfect,thermometer is the key,flip that boy at 170f.You will reach 190 while you crisp that skin.
