Our Golden Petals brown jasmine rice originates from a small rice grower on the Thailand/Cambodia border. It is twice washed, milled and polished carefully. Jasmine rice has a fresh scent and sticky taste (three times as sticky as US long grain rice) and is gluten free. It is best boiled for about 15-20 minutes. Do not remove the lid or stir, as the rice will become gummy. Add butter and salt to taste. Jasmine rice is high in fibre. It is also a low-fat, sodium-free food. We ethically source all our boutique rice from growers who do not use synthetic pesticides and herbicides which threaten insect populations, contaminate water sources and can have ecosystem-wide knock-on effects. We accept that rice is a carbon-intensive carbohydrate but not nearly as high as those generated by animal farming. Therefore, we regard it as more sustainable than animal farming with regards to the welfare of our environment. When we accept a submission from a rice grower, we carefully consider how the rice growing affects the surrounding animal husbandry.
