The extract powder is produced in China at a cGMP ISO22000 organic facility. It is then imported into the US and sent to our encapsulation facility in California, which is a cGMP, NSF certified, solar powered facility.

Oriveda's is alcohol extracted to provide the ngf promoting hericenones and erinacines, which cannot be extracted with water only. are you doing this?

Hi David,

Yes, they can be extracted with hot water. This is a common misconception. Please see our website for our article on extraction.

As nothing is removed during the hot water extraction of our product, all compounds present in the mushroom are present in the final extract powder (including insolubles).

Our product is consistent with all 3 clinical trials on lions mane mushroom.

what is "extract powder"? is that different than just plain mushroom powder? what is "extracted" from the mushroom? and what is left behind?

Hello There!

Correct. A mushroom extract is different compared to a plain mushroom powder. One involves extraction. Whereas the other hasn't been extracted.

A dried-up, raw mushroom powder (unextracted). The important water and non-water soluble compounds are not concentrated and made bio-available for the body to uptake and use effectively. Hence where extraction comes into play. Here is more intel below on how an extract is made to give you a better understanding:

First, you take dried mushrooms and grind them into a fine powder. Then you will cook them multiple times with water and/or alcohol. Water to release water-soluble compounds. Alcohol to release non-water soluble compounds.

This cooking breaks down the cell walls of the mushroom allowing for the extraction of the beneficial compounds (beta-glucans, triterpenes, etc.). The mushroom cell walls are made up of chitin, which our bodies do not have the enzymes to break down properly so if we just eat fresh mushrooms the active compounds are not as bioavailable to us. Hence, again. the need for extraction.

The resulting liquid from cooking the mushrooms is drained off and concentrated to the desired consistency. If any alcohol is used in the extraction, it is precipitated out (removed). The liquid is then sent to a spray dryer, which removes all the water, leaving you with the final powder.

So the final liquid is now a powder without any of the water and/or alcohol.

Is this tested for heavy metals (lead, cadmium, mercury etc.) and other toxins since mushrooms readily absorb from where they are growing?

Of course.  All products are screened for heavy metals twice. We follow the American Health Products Association (AHPA) guidelines for heavy metals which is in compliance with CA Prop 65.

All of our product specifications follow the following industry established limits:

*ppm = parts per million

Lead: <2ppm*
Arsenic: <2ppm*
Cadmium: <2ppm*
Mercury: <0.1ppm*
Based on our recommended dosage, our heavy metal limits are even stricter than the limits set by AHPA.

As we, the Real Mushrooms team, are also consuming our products on a daily basis, we are always concerned about the health and safety of our products. Keep in mind that Nammex is the supplier of all of our organic mushroom extracts. They supply hundreds of US companies with mushroom ingredients for all kinds of different products. They cannot sell to these companies if the extracts do not meet heavy metals standards.
