I'm not 100% sure how these are used in a real Montessori class, but what I did was print out words (an assortment of nouns, verbs, adjectives, etc.) on a set of index cards and then ask my daughter to make a sentence. Since she had learned the parts of speech in her virtual classes, she could then match these wooden symbols to the cards she chose for her sentence. Since she was talking about geometric solids in class as well, we also used these to try to identify the different shapes they represent.
