I hope the larger adventurers will read this.
I researched for days prior to ordering this Kayak and I am so thankful I took the plunge and purchased it. My goal in writing this review is not just to tell you what I experienced with my new kayak but to encourage anyone that is struggling with their size not to let it keep you from getting out there. I am 5 8' 320 pounds give or take and I am trying my best to get out and be active. I loathe the gym and I am trying to find things that I can do. I have always been athletic but due to injuries from working out being the size I am has made adventures quite challenging and sometimes painful. But here's the skinny on my maiden voyage. My kayak arrived 2 days after order and I had a planned to head to the lake with a friend to try it out immediately. I inflated it in my home because I did not want any surprises happening on the lake. I ordered new paddles before my kayak arrived because of so many other reviewers reporting how crappy the ones are that come with the kayak and I must agree on that point. It was easy and quick to inflate but I have yet to figure out the back pack which also is the back support, The kayak fully inflated is very light and easy to transfer from the car to the lake area. There was a boat launch where we were which was nice. I decided to straddle the kayak to sit down into it as recommended by another reviewer, it wasn't pretty but it worked. I realize that the boat is made to hold up to 400 pounds but it did sag in the middle some and my bottom was wet the entire time but I didn't care because I was finally able to kayak!! It takes a while to balance and paddle at the same time as it does not track as well as a hard shell kayak but I got into a great rhythm and figured out how far to place the paddles in the water to maintain my stride and balance. The friend I was with had a hard shell kayak and I kept up with her perfectly. The back support is not much of a support but to me it was comfortable because I liked sitting back while I paddled. The top and back came up slightly out of the water and there was a small crease where I sat on the kayak but to be honest I didn't really care what I looked like I just wanted to be out on the water. The material was very durable and we were out when it was in the 90's. My dog laid comfortably on my leg as I paddled and her nails were no problem at all. My first voyage was over 2 hours and I loved every minute of it and I can't wait to get back out there. So all in all I am giving this kayak 5 stars. It's an inexpensive alternative and it worked well for me.

A seriously excellent little kayak.
As soon as I saw that the manufacturer was Sevylor, I paid attention and purchased one because I have had one of their inflatable dinghys for more than 25 years as my ship-to-shore and anchor placement transport with never a problem of any kind. My first test of the K1 kayak just occurred this morning and Sevylor totally lived up to my expectations…and here is why you may wish to listen to me. I’m just turning 79 and for 75 of those years (yes, since the age of 4) I have been a serious sailer and power boater all over the U.S. and Europe as well as a canoeist and kayaker on both flat and white water from New England to the Rockies to the West Coast. For more than 20 years I have used a Perception for white water and a Hobie for flat water on the West Coast, the East Coast, and many places betwixt and between and dearly love them and the fact that the Hobie paddles, pedals, and sails…truly wonderful thing. However, I am now old, puny, and needed another kayak that can fit anywhere including a car trunk and can be easily transported on my back to bodies of water more challenging to access such as remote mountain lakes. The K1 seemed like a possible answer but I was concerned with how well it would perform as well as inflate, breakdown, and fit once more in the back pack. What I found was that the inflation process took me 15 minutes the first time and 6 minutes the second time. Each fold down process took me about that same amount of time as well and it actually did fit easily into the back pack. I also noted in a review I read that someone found it challenging to thoroughly dry and clean it before folding it up but the simple solution for me was to give the top surfaces a quick wipe down fresh out of the water with a little bar rag carried in a pocket before deflating it and then wipe down the bottom surface after I deflated it as I folded it up. No problem as you can see in the attached photo allowing me to return home with no further clean-up required. In terms of performance, my first concern based on reviews I read was how squirrelly the K1 would be but I found that it tracks very well (what I couldn’t see in the Amazon.com photos were the two skegs fore and aft on the bottom which are a great help) and is also very stable because it is beamy. At the same time it maneuvers quickly and well. My second concern regarding performance arose from reading several reviews that mention the apparent inadequacy of the paddle but here again I found it to be perfectly acceptable and therefore did not feel any need to use another one of my paddles. There are three negatives I need to mention: First, the back pack turned into seat is uncomfortable in my opinion. It hits me awkwardly in mid-back and there is no means by which to tie the top edge in place. The life vest helps overcome this. Second, the straps and flaps that retain the folded up kayak in the back pack could in my opinion be better designed. Placing the kayak carefully partially alleviates this. Three, the three plastic hooks at the corners of the triangular net are very difficult to take out of their slots once installed. They will probably loosen up with use. In conclusion, I appreciate the compactness, light weight, and quality of the K1 plus believe based on my experience that Sevylor does a very fine job of designing and manufacturing inflatables that are seriously excellent…and no, I don’t have anything to do with the company.

Best kayak for the cost! Hands down!
We are absolutely in LOVE with these little kayaks. In fact, we liked them so much we traded in our tandem for two more so we now have four of the Sevylor K5 kayaks and couldn’t be happier. A few tips before you start (wish someone had told us lol) 1: Immediately get new paddles. 3/4 of our paddles broke within minutes of the first trip on the water. It was NOT fun getting back with tiny hand oars. Also, the blisters they gave were REAL! 😩 Don’t even attempt it. I promise. 2. The skeg makes the boat turn in circles. No it’s not your imagination. Someone else said they cut them off with a kitchen knife and that’s my next chore for these also. 3. Make sure you have them blown up enough. This is super important. My oldest daughter didn’t have hers blown up enough and ended up looking like a bad scene from the titanic by the time we got back to dock 😂😂😂 4. Make sure you clean them and dry them before you fold them back up for storage. This was initially very hard. We ended up piling them in the trunk and bringing them back home to do and it was still very cumbersome. Someone else mentioned separating the belly from the bag and that helped tremendously! 5. Huge drawback!!!!! Be careful when lining up the seat with the kayak. The backpack (lime green) turns into your actual seat. So because the Velcro ripped halfway through the trip (this Velcro secures the seat to the kayak) so it caused one strap in two separate boats to snap and break permanently so those seats will no longer snap in with the kayak. This is the biggest upset for us! I’m not sure how they will function without the seats being secured to the kayak at all but I will update after we try again. Major bonuses: they blow up SO fast and easily. They really do fold into a backpack and even my 12 year old can carry his pack through the woods to the dock. The actual kayak had lots of room on board. Leg room for me was mediocre and a bit rough due to bad knees and not much ability to change position. This only bothered those of us with bad knees lol. I gave it a 4 star because we love them so much but to be fair with all of the broken parts and paddles I would give it a solid 3. We still will make do with them but these are major things to be considered.

Where has this been all my life?💝
I bought 2 of these. One for me, and one for my kayak buddy - my husband. I had some worries that it would be just some beach float pretending to be a kayak. This is not a float. This is a kayak! Easy to follow - instructions just do the set-up and take down one step at a time. The blow up process is fast. I didn't time it, but the pump blows air in on the push down and pull up. We inflated them, then took a 10 minute break to let the let the air bladders relax so we could fully inflate the kayak. So, blow up, break, finish blowing up is the secret there. Follow the directions to convert the backpack into a seat. Easy! A lot of reviews say the paddles are crap, and that's because they are! 😜 It's a byop (buy your own paddle) situation. There are really nice paddle cleats on one side of the kayak. Inflated it feels light as a beach float, so you just carry it to the water. Deflated, it feels WAY lighted then my hard shell kayaks, but oddly heavier then when it was inflated. SO, the launch! Carried it to the water, plopped it in the water, wasn't sure exactly how to get on an inflatable kayak. I just sat on it as close to the seat as I could get, brought my legs up and go comfortable in the seat. My husband is taller and heavier than I am, but he also had no problem getting in the floating inflatable. The ride is nice, but you do have to use really smooth strokes because it wants to tac left and right a bit. It just takes a few minutes to adjust your paddle method to correct this. It's really stable! I tried to get it to pitch me in the water. It didn't. I wiggled, wobbled, suddenly changed body positions - it didn't even come close to tipping. My husband tried too, but same results for both of us. The dismount was super easy! Just get in shallow water, and swing your legs off one side. Stand-up, put your paddle in the cleats, pick-up the kayak, and walk out of the water. So easy!! The backpack seat is really comfortable. The whole kayak is really comfortable. The deflation process is so easy! They plump has an inflate side, and a deflate side. It goes super flat super fast! Folding it was easy. I did have a problem getting the cargo nets off, so I just left them on. Because I did that, I had to use a couple of bungee cords to make it stay in the backpack. No big deal at all. A little about us. I'm 55, and a 30 year kayaker. I have done white water and still water kayaking. I have a bad left leg. I've had 16 surgeries, 2 ankle replacements, from a catastrophic injury. This is the best kayak I've ever ridden. My husband is 71, and a kayaker for 10 years. He has a lower spine fusion (football stuff, y'all). He loves his inflatable kayak. I'm his hard shell kayak, his butt would go numb, he'd wiggle around and end up swimming. I build out riggers on it, but the numb butt thing made kayaking not so fun even without being tossed into the drink! His butt doesn't go numb with this kayak. I believe it's because he has better circulation because your blood can circulate better on a soft seat. He also had no problem getting comfortable in the seat. The back seems to have better structure then those little backed seats on our hard shells. This kayak is great. I'd never take it in white water, but I can take it out all day on calm water.

Not Sure About Durability
Purchased two of these for my husband and I to give kayaking a try without a huge investment. Worth noting, my husband is 6'3" and about 260 lbs., I'm 5'6" and hover around 200. These have individual weight capacities of 400 lbs, so I didn't have any concerns about it keeping us afloat. That said, our backsides were pretty soaked after using. Inflation is quick and can be a bit of a workout for two of them, especially on a hot day. Our first trip was to a mountain lake in Colorado. We were able to get on the kayaks easily and were off and kayaking fairly quickly. We did upgrade the paddles based on reviews here that the paddles it comes with are horrible. While we haven't used those paddles, the construction of them seemed pretty flimsy, especially compared to the new paddles we purchased. Cruising around the shoreline the steering wasn't too bad. Once you get used to how it maneuvers it's quite easy. We were on calm water with gentle wind, so lucky for our first trip. Our second trip was to a lake in the Denver suburbs. The water on this like was quite choppy, but we still had fun paddling around and no really problems maneuvering it around. Third trip to another lake....one kayak seems to be leaking but we can find no holes, but chambers 3 and 4 definitely losing air. After thorough checking we believe the valves were the culprit. When we returned home I pumped it up again to check for holes and found none, but did still have noticeable air loss within 1/2 hour. Fortunately I was on the very last day that I could return the item to Amazon, so back it went. We really like these kayaks. I wish the one would have held up better under gentle, adult only use. All in they were used for 2.5 hours, so I'm concerned about durability. I would expect more usage at this price point. We were meticulously careful with cleaning the kayaks and letting them dry before packing it back into the pack it came with, so I don't think there was any carelessness on our part. We did keep the other kayak and I hope to see better performance from it.

High Quality, Easy to Use, Super Sturdy! (get another paddle though)
I just received this two days ago, and got on the lake today! I put 9 miles on it, and can honestly say it's a great purchase. (Pictures Included) To start out, because it's helpful: I'm a 5'10, 200lb woman with a 36" inseam...so yes, I have long legs. This was a perfect fit for me. My 6'5 brother sat on it while I had it on the lawn, and it was a great fit for him as well. It also didn't sink even the slightest, and the only time I got wet was when I awkwardly got off the kayak while the wind kinda moved it. Ok, on to the Kayak: There are four (five) individual compartments, so it will stay inflated if something does happen, but the material is strong, and our dock master passed it off without hesitation. All the other reviews are right... the paddle is a little flimsy and comes apart way too easily. Luckily I happened to already have a yellow/black one, that matched this perfectly. (as you can see in the pictures) It's super easy to inflate, and only takes about 5-7 minutes once you know what you're doing. (I learned how to unpack and pack it on my front lawn, and made sure it was all working before I took it to the lake) The pump is easy to use, and has a "deflate" setting as well to suck all the air out, making it super easy to pack back up in the backpack/seat. Speaking of that backpack/seat - it is COMFY! Like I said, I did just over 9 miles on it just now, and it was way more comfortable than any hard shell kayaks I've used. Ingenious design, and there are absolutely no issues getting the deflated kayak back into a folded form to secure in the back/pack seat. Takes even less time to deflate, fold, and store - then on you go! The color is exactly as you see. It's a bright teal, and bright yellow. It's quite pretty actually. It came shipped in its own box, inside another shipping box. Undamaged, and well packaged. Arrived very quickly! Instructions were easy to follow. It does say to inflate to a specific PSI... but if you're like me and can't actually check that easily, just make sure it's firm, but not seam popping hard. Like an air mattress, basically. Actual Rowing on the lake: At first, I quickly realized it is not a hard shell and doesn't row like a hard shell. It responds to paddling very quick. So the front end tends to move side to side. Typically that means you're paddling too hard, but it's going to happen no matter what with this if you want to move in a forward direction. The second I stopped paddling, it would start spinning itself, so I had to slowly stop paddling, and make sure it was straight and I wasn't moving when I stopped. It was leaning a little to the right, which I'm sure was just how I was sitting on it - I'll have to play around with that some more on my next runs. Very little water got inside the kayak, just splashing drips from the paddles. I never had any water splash up and over. Not sure what else to say about this, except it's absolutely awesome and a major bargain for the quality. 100% worth the purchase! Update: I've been out on this a few times now, and it's still perfect. No leaks, no problems. And that slightly leaning to the right was definitely me. Haven't had the issue again. I love it!

Leaked out of the box; can't really contact customer support?
I ordered this as a Christmas gift for my husband. We had to wait for summer to unbox our kayaks (I purchased Intex ones for myself and my mother and those are fantastic!) and as soon as we got to the pond, my husband was certain his was defective out of the box. We inflated it - comes with a great pump! - and got out barely 100 feet from shore before he noticed that he felt he was sinking in. He went back, got the pump out, added more air, and returned to us. We noticed we could hear an air whooshing sound from underneath, with some bubbles appearing, suggesting a bottom-side leak. We had to cut our excursion short so that he could go home and repair the hole. That afternoon, we identified the location of a small hole and he repaired it using the provided patch kit. We took the kayaks out again the next day, only to find that the patch had not adhered, despite it being on a flat surface and the proper surface preparation prior to application. We really were upset we would not get to go out again, so we patched the hole using waterproof duct tape. We took them out on the pond. Although the duct tape held, the problem appeared again...this time with a new leak, new whooshing sound, and more air bubbles escaping from underneath. Again, his inflatable lost pressure and we had to cut the event short. I went back to my Amazon purchases to contact the company and found that there was no "Get Customer Support" button in my order details (unlike the Intex brand Kayaks, which do show that button). So, I went to the Sevylor website, but in the "Contact Us" fields, there is literally no option to enter an address from the United States in their drop down.... I am really sad and upset that this is a new product out of the box that came with so many leaks...and because it was a Christmas gift, which I purchased December 15th, I cannot return it via Amazon since it is now summer and methods of contacting the company are limited. Perhaps avoid this brand. The Intex kayaks we got are fantastic; we got the Challenger 1 and they are exceptionally sturdy with a superior quality paddle. The only downside is they have a lower weight capacity than this Sevylor brand version...which is what prompted me to purchase it in the first place. If anyone from Sevylor sees this, I'd love to try a replacement version of the kayak, since all we have now is a folded piece of plastic that doesn't float for more than 20 minutes.

Awesome value, supreme portability!
I've had two of these for a year now, and am very happy with them. They're a great value, easy to use and clean, and supremely portable! I do have a rack-capable SUV... but have never been a fan of hoisting bulky boats up overhead onto a rack there. I love how the Quikpak folds up into a backpack-able shape and size! My sons, lady, and I have hiked upstream with them on our backs, then assembled, then floated downstream on a local river. The boats also excel at impromptu locations where it might be a challenge for a hard-shell kayak to put into the water. I don't need no beach, to launch! :) That said, buyers of these need to be realistic. The bottom is not smooth (kind of bumpy actually) and the skeg fins are small; so these will never be as fast or directionally stable as a hard shell kayak. Special care has to be applied, when inflating - should be firm but not bulging - it takes some trials to put in enough air to make it not sag, but not too much that might damage the boat. The oars are ok and at least they are very lightweight. The oars need to be assembled just right - you must fully seat each end of each pipe section in its coupler, then tighten the couplers really well. If not, there's more chance of the coupler collars cracking, and/or, the paddles ending up migrating to weirdly angled clock positions. And due to the smallish skeg fins, one has to adjust their rowing technique (smaller, jab-like strokes) to minimize undue yaw while rowing. Finally, one has to learn the origamy of reversing the backpack shell/seat each time, for it to really work well as either. (Hint: you sit on the logo when it's a seat, and your back hits the logo, when it's a backpack). Still though - for the money, I've yet to find a sit-on inflatable kayak as portable and versatile as this one! I've had one on Lake Michigan a few times and they are a hoot in smallish (1-3 ft) waves. Just keep the bow square to the crest of the wave... these will float right up over the top of the wave, bend to follow it as they top it, then bend the other way to zip down into the trough! Once you've fought the waves and made it out into open water, you can actually lay down pretty much flat out on the front 2/3 of the boat, and use the seat as a pillow, for a well-earned rest. I've also used it a couple times for 'bike-yaking' in a local lake. I strap on the Quikpak, ride my Citizen 'Tokyo' folding bike to the lake, put the folded bike on the front half of the boat, and go kayaking! Then reverse everything and ride home. I'm attaching a picture, but note that I zip up the bike in its bag and lanyard it to the boat, when I actually go out on the water. (Obviously - also be careful of sharp pokey bike parts and how they sit on the boat). Note also, I drilled a little hole in one base foot of the pump, and attached a carabiner there with a little rope, so I can clip the pump to the backpack top handle when I strap on the boat. I also got a small stretchy cargo net here on Amazon (see pix), which I clip onto the rear seat-rest strap and the rear boat handle, to restrain my mobile equipment bag. I'm a 5'9", 150 lb male and the boat has plenty of space and buoyancy for both me and my little bike :)

Great portable Kayak and should be 5 Stars, but...
The Quickpak K5 is a great single person inflatable Kayak that can actually be carried long distances and should be a firm 5 Stars. I've had it on lakes and in the sea, in sunshine wind and rain and it handles really well. But... there is no support for this in the UK. I now have a problem with one of the main bladder valves that will need the bladder replacing and I can't seem to get spares anywhere. I've tried the Europe and the UK distributor and tried to make contact with Coleman in the US, but no-one seems able to help. Another problem is the connectors for the 3 piece paddles. They aren't really up to the job and I have had two snap on me. You can find replacements on amazon, but unfortunately these are not as strong as the originals. Better to buy a good two-piece. Amazon (who sells the product itself) also doesn't seem to have a mechanism to help people in my position either, just 6 months after the sale. If you choose to buy one, they are amazing fun and very capable, but don't expect to be able to get any spares, So if you have a catastrophic failure you could be out of action for a long time, or not recover it at all, unless Amazon starts importing the spares.

Spectacular!
This is a spectacular purchase. Strong, durable materials, the covering fabric is tough and slick aesthetically as well. It exceeded my expectation for comfort. I'm 6'0/175 and its very comfortable. I don't know why people are crying about the paddle, I find it very durable and super light, which works well for the portability of this product. I can see why people are a bit uneasy though. It comes in one easy box. The hand pump is very effective and its ready to go in a few minutes. My only critique is that there should be an excitment warning: don't sit in it when you first blow it up, cause it bends the bottom fin (which I had to put a weight on for an hour to bend back). But your instinct is to hop right in after you turn the backpack into your seat!
