After eyeing this bag for a few months, I decided to pull the trigger. Glad I did because it's a super duper leather backpack. The first thing you notice is the thickness of the leather. It was fairly supple when new and should soften a bit over time. It gives you confidence it's built to last. Critical seams are reinforced, there's a metal snap buckle on the middle strap, and the backstraps are riveted at stress points, along with metal D-rings. there's also a D-ring on the front. The zippers are burly and pull smoothly. In the front is one horizontal zippered pocket that extends a couple inches up. Inside the pocket there is a small pocket that acts as a divider for small items. The rest of the front consists of a roll-top that closes three ways: with metal snaps, a metal buckle, and a zipper. This is a thoughtful design choice as you can use one, two or all three of the closure options. use the snaps when the load is light. use the buckle when you may need to access the bag quickly. use the zipper for maximum security, and for larger loads where you need more vertical space. you can also forgo zipping or buckling or snapping the bag at all and just roll with the top open if you have longer vertical items like large baguettes. Inside the bag there's a padded laptop/tablet compartment with a leather-and-velcro fastener, plus a small zippered pocket. A nice touch is the addition of a key ring with detachable key fob with a leather tag. The top of the laptop compartment is leather-tipped. and there's a small pouch under the zippered pocket that will hold an iPhone 14, or a small water bottle. The inside of the bag is lined with a plush and soft velvet material. All of the zippered pockets are lined. on the back, there's a vertical zip pocket for travel documents, etc. One last detail is the grab handle which is a sturdy canvas reinforced wth leather. This thing is almost too nice to be an office bag. although you could use it for that. The design is clever and functional. It's built with gussets that expand or contract depending on how much you put in it. It's advertised as an XL but the listed capacity is 17 liters, which is more of a medium-large compared to other backpacks. You could fit a change of clothes in here or a packable jacket along with EDC items, but that's about it. In a way this is smart too, because you won't be tempted to overload it. It's not large enough by itself for more than an overnighter if this is your only bag. I haven't tested the weather resistance much yet so i can't comment on the waterproof claims. I'm planning on conditioning and waxing it anyway. The bag itself is heavier than a nylon or polyester material. If i had to nitpick, there's no external water bottle pocket, and no strap to place over a rolling suitcase handle. That said, a 20 oz Yeti Rambler will fit in the front pocket, and the straps are close enough together you could just wrap them around your suitcase handle and use a DIY velcro fastener (like the ones designed for audio cables) without much fuss. The buckle fastener was stiff at first, but has already started to glide more smoothly with use. None of these nitpicks are enough to subtract a star. Overall this is a very stylish, rugged and good looking bag that should last for years. It's functionable and more versatile than it initially appears. The price is fair considering the quality.

This is is perfect for my upcoming Ireland trip! It's large enough to fit a packable raincoat, down coat, smacks, a wallet and/or passport, sunglasses etc... with room to spare and bonus: it's not heavy. I love that it has a zipper top closure and a real clasp closure instead of a cheesy fake closure that has a snap underneath. I really hate those types of bags especially when I'm traveling. It's a beautiful bag that's well made with sound stitching. Initially I wasn't sure about the price of this bag being a bit high, however after seeing this, you unquestionably get a high quality bag that is made to last. It's worth every penny!

I bought this backpack three years ago and I can’t recommend it enough. I can fit a large laptop, textbooks, notebooks, coffee, and lunch inside with room to spare. I’ve spilled coffee inside multiple times (my own fault) but never had to worry about ruining my laptop because of the protective pouch. It’s perfect for a weekend trip, leaving plenty of space for clothes, shoes, and anything else I need. The clasp at the top works incredibly well for camping; I use it to secure my sleeping bag and a small tent while on extended hiking trips, depending on how much I’m storing inside. Despite several years of wear and tear, the leather and seams are just as strong as when I bought it. The straps don’t dig into my shoulders at any point, even when I fill the backpack to its maximum. I wish there was padding in the back to make it more comfortable, but that’s a minor complaint. It holds up in bad weather, keeping everything inside dry even in torrential rain. The pockets are made of quality fabric and the zippers have never needed repair. Is it the most stylish? Depends. It works with my personal style, but a large leather bag isn’t necessarily for everyone. If you love leather, though, this will fit into your wardrobe seamlessly. Color is exactly as pictured - a warm, orange-brown leather that works with a variety of outfits. I’ve received many compliments on it over the years. If you’re looking for a travel bag or commuter bag, you’ll be hard pressed to find anything better than this. It’ll last you for years and accommodate a variety of situations. Just try not to spill coffee inside, though, as that’s a bit of a pain to clean.

Overall, I'm happy with the bag. I purchased the M size. I'm happy with the size and weight. A few changes would make it great. The two snaps at the top aren't placed well and are difficult to use, so I don't. Might be easier to use if they were the magnetic type. The buckle does stick sometimes, but not a huge deal. I wish the inside pockets (zipper and phone) were closer to the top, instead of near the bottom of the bag. The bag is so deep that they get lost and aren't very useful. The quality of leather is good, although it was a little smelly and stiff, as mentioned in other reviews. I added a dryer sheet and put it outside for a day or so and the smell went away. I applied a leather balm (Satchel and Page) for stiffness and that really helped. The shoulder straps could use some padding. I use this as a daily purse/backpack, but I'm not sure how comfortable it will be on a longer trip.

I consider myself an “expert” in the bag arena… The problem with bags these days is that there are so many options. From inexpensive to outrageous, new brands, boutique brands, designer brands etc., and it can be very hard to find the right one. Over the years I have been impressed or disappointed with ones in every category. Even if your best friend recommends a bag, it’s often tricky to know if it’s for you unless you can play around with it. Before you get not things like quality and durability, ask yourself what you want out of a bag and what you are using it for. Too many negative reviews of bags in general are from people who obviously expected a bag to read their mind before they bought it and were then disappointed that it “didn’t have an extra side pocket”… I have two jobs. I am a photographer who (finally) is just starting to travel again. My camera backpack is ergonomic, comfortable, and cleverly disguised to not look like a camera bag but more of a vintage military style backpack. It has specially designed adjustable compartments and pockets. It took a while to find. If I need to I can fit a change of clothes in there but that’s it. This is not that bag. I am also a recording engineer/producer, and I do move from studio to studio. I was looking for a bag that was rugged, but not as protective or as padded as a camera bag. I needed to fit two pairs of headphones in hard cases, some cables and accessories, possible change of clothes and snacks, and of course a laptop and/or iPad. I also needed it to double as a regular travel bag if needed, in a way my photo bag could not. More clothes, toiletries, small camera etc.. Waterproofing was actually more important than with the camera stuff, as not only is most of the photo gear already weather resistant, but you generally are out in the rain less… For general travel and recording, I am more often walking to get somewhere, on and off subways, and even a motorcycle. This bag fit my needs based on the description, photos and dimensions. Was I skeptical? Of course. Berliner Bags is fairly new (which is often a good thing, as new companies tend to think outside the box. Or bag…Yep,. I did that…), and the price was great. It honestly blew my mind. The leather is MUCH thicker than I would have imagined, and yet still soft, and getting softer over time. The lining is great. It is as rugged as a vintage military bag, but with luxury features. You can throw things in it that are a little more delicate without risk of scratching. And again, the leather is thick. I wanted zippers as opposed to flaps for this particular bag, and that is often where I get let down. A zipper can be the first thing to die on you after some abuse. The zippers are FAT! They are also stiff, which I like. It would be almost impossible for someone to try to steal something from the front of your bag while traveling without you knowing. If they could even get the zipper open in a stealthy way… One possible downside it that the bag looks REALLY cool, and that might make someone want to steal it…;) The straps are comfortable, and are definitely designed with the thickness and weight of the bag in mind. I can load it up and not be uncomfortable. The bag has been rained on multiple times with no issues. Don’t forget that this is leather, and if you are going to abuse it, you will have to look after it and condition it from time to time. It can last practically forever. Berliner Bags is actually based out of Berlin. This actually means something, because not only do Berliners walk around a lot in everyday life, and like most Europeans, travel a lot by train, but German engineering is notoriously good and well thought out. This bag has has obviously been “field” tested as it was being designed. Again, know what you want. Based on this experience, I imagine that all of their other bags are equally as good. They have many other designs and styles that will fit different needs, and this will definitely not be my only bag from them!!

it is a solid construction made of a genuine leather travel bag. it is big enough to hold clothes and gadgets. The zipper is metal, which the superb to keep everything in place. Love it!!!

UPDATE: HE LOVES IT!!! Also, I took some very very gentle sandpaper to the scratch and then wiped it all down and it is looking amazing. Original review: Received this today in a large flat box and it is really lovely. It smells so nice has a gorgeous natural and unwaxed buff leather pattern. Clasps and zips were in foam sleeves to keep them protected from scratches, I just took them off for presentation purposes! Despite the long scratch across the logo, I think this is a perfectly unique product and really well-made. Hopefully the scratch buffs out as it’s not very deep, but I’m leaving that for my bf to work out so I don’t mess anything up!! be aware that even the slightest indent may leave a mark, but this is by design because of the material. Space: there’s a secret back pocket zipper!! There is also SO MUCH ROOM in this bag which is great for my digital and traditional artist boyfriend. I can already see him trekking out to the prairie with his watercolors inside. You can fit plenty of art supplies and a large laptop, a tablet, snacks, some wide books inside, and I think it could work really well as an overnight bag also. it is a little weighty, though, so I wouldn’t recommend this XL size for anyone who is focused on getting a lightweight bag, has shoulder or back issues, or might have a shorter torso. I also don’t know that I would use it to carry textbooks or have it for campus use. It’s much more of a travel and work bag. Also I’m not kidding when I say I can fit my entire arm inside this thing lol. Details: Inside tag says designed in Germany, made in India. Has a booklet with more products inside, feels very professional. Bag comes flat and unfolded, but I folded it down for presentation purposes for when he opens it up on Christmas! The buckle makes a little “ding” noise when you click it in place. Zippers are pretty good, but the secret back one does get a little caught on itself. Snaps are a little hard to put on, but I would guess that’s mostly because the leather needs to bend and be worn down. Nice Velcro strap inside on laptop pocket for added security. Also a wallet pocket, but sadly no pen loops! So make sure to buy a pen case to avoid any ink explosions. There is a very sturdy keychain clasp inside but I don’t know what exactly it could be used for. Overall: I’m so excited about giving this to my partner. Great construction and will only get more beautiful with time. Because of all the pros, I have to give 5 stars. Thank you!!!!

El producto es perfecto, muy buena calidad. Pero ha fallado el control de calidad del producto por parte del fabricante. Como se ve en la foto el herraje de la izquierda esta cosido al revés y no se puede sujetar la correa de sujeción. Con lo cual es inutilizable para ir a la espalda. La atención al cliente de Amazon, un desastre, pues es imposible ponerme en contacto con él, para decir simplemente que lo quiero cambiar por una sin defecto, en lugar de devolverlo y que me devuelvan el dinero. Como es una oferta flash, no lo voy a volver a comprar, pues me fastidia pagar más por la incompetencia de otros. Así Amazon pierde la venta y el vendedor también. Gracias a una atención al cliente tan robotizada, que no deja opción a explicarte. Realmente lamentable, por Amazon

è bello, color cuoio che ricorda tanto le borse artigianali da hippy, prodotto raro da trovare oggi in giro, però gli spallacci sono distanti tra loro più del dovuto, se al produttore potesse arrivare il suggerimento di cucirli un 2 cm. più verso il centro, devono essere più ravvicinati. A me non reggono tanto, ci vogliono spalle belle larghe. L'ho tenuto lo stesso perchè mi piace tanto, ha tasche comode e la misura M è proprio giusta per me che ho tutti zaini enormi, mi è stato anche chiesto dove lo avessi comprato, se gli spallacci fossero più al centro sarebbe perfetto. Ho risolto il problema, ho sganciato le bretelle e le ho incrociate, ora gli spallacci non mi cadono più

Leather quality 👌🏼 Metal straps could be better. Beautifully made from inside. XL is huge size ! Worth the price. Leather straps finishing could have been better. Bought both the models XL size. But this one is prettier.

Ravie de ce sac a dos, de belles finitions et non odorant, les bretelles et le dos du sac sont en cuir de qualité inférieur que le reste du sac . Bien penser à l'imperméabiliser.

Not sure why Amazon lists this as "Berliner Bags Women's Utrecht Backpack" in search results, since it is equally suitable for men (and the actual description lists it as such). After almost two years' use this bag looks as good or even better than the day I purchased it. It is quite heavy so in some ways more suitable as a man's bag ... but thoroughly practical and a joy to own. One of the zip pullers came off. I contacted Berliner and they replaced it free of charge.
