Victorinox Swiss Army Executive Pocket Knife (Black), One Size

I love pocket knives! I have tried all sorts and styles. I think the Victorinox Executive may in fact be THE one. For years I carried a Tinker and it works. I also carried Benchmade minigrip and it worked to. The thing I've noticed is that for my daily needs, I really don't need a large 154CM one handed blade or a can-opener or saw to get thru the day. What I need is a nail file, a small scissor and a small blade.... and a toothpick. The older I get the more I realize that function and utility are more important than big and flashy. I fought the idea of going smaller for years thinking that I need to be ready at an instant to skin a moose or split some firewood but this is not my reality. This is what TV does to you. TV creates in a person an artificial reality with a "what if?" mentality. Knowledge is power. Knowing how to do things can eliminate the need for more stuff. My reality is opening small packages, cleaning/clipping/filing my finger nails and picking my teeth. I also liked the idea of keeping a small pocket knife on my keys as sort of a backup to a larger knife in my pocket but found that during the day the small knife was much more office friendly and the larger knife never got used. I didn't like the idea of just the knife on the keys because of the feeling of being limited by having to have the keys attached to it while trying to use it. So I replaced the small split ring on the Vic with a slightly larger one (don't waste your money on buying a Victorinox split ring for $.99 or whatever outrageous price they charge for a replacement. Go to the fishing section of you local sporting goods store and buy a package of 12 split rings for $1.00) that I could slip onto a small 1" keychain style $.50 Walmart carabiner. Problem solved. Now the knife is easily separated from my keys when needed. I also carry a very small LED flashlight. These two items are very effective. For me lightweight and small works. Now about the knife. Great assortment of practical tools. None is superior to a dedicated tool but in a pinch will work like a charm. And isn't that what life is... things happening in a pinch? The large blade will core an apple, gut a trout or sharpen a stick for marshmallow roasting. The small blade is a great utility blade the size of a scapel. One thing I like about Victorinox's proprietary steel is that it's very functional. It's easy to sharpen, holds an edge fairly well and is very corrosion resistant. A couple of passes over a piece of 600 grit sand paper and the blades sharpen to near razor acuity. As for the scissors, they are the perfect size for most small jobs. I wouldn't use them to tailor a suit but to clip a hangnail or loose threads they're perfect. A great nail file too with actual teeth. Now the bad. Victorinox seems to be very resistant to change and customer input as to improving their products ever when it makes sense. One design flaw that the Executive has (as well as the Classic SD) is that the split ring is on the same side as the large blade, and the opposite end as the scissors. This says to me that the scissors are the focus of the tool where I think -just as with the rest of the Vic line- the main knife blade is the focus. At least put the main blade and the scissor on the same end. Thankfully they put the small blade and scissor are on the same end, that way if the unit is welded to a keychain a knife blade is still accessible without being encumbered by the keys getting in the way. Also the orange peeler is useless except for the screwdriver potential of the blunted end. They should at least grind the tip to fuction more like a screwdriver- especially one that would fit eyeglasses. I think they should replace the orange peeler with the screwdriver/cap-lifter tool that's on many of the 58mm models. All in all it's a good functional small pocket knife. I would recommend it.

I'm a businessman and a former Boy Scout. I like to Be Prepared, and that includes carrying a small pocketknife with me (except when I'm flying). I've owned between 10 and 20 of this particular model of knife in 20+ years. Why so many? Well, some of them I lost... some were borrowed by my children and never returned... some were abandoned at TSA security areas when I forgot to slip the knife into my checked luggage... some are in my desk at work as an emergency reserve. And I always worry Victorinox will stop making this model, so I buy ahead. For me, this is the perfect pocketknife. - It has a great selection of blades... the large and small drop point.. the fingernail cleaner/file... the scissors are the best scissors I've found on many a pocket knife (on many others the blades are serrated, or the spring is misaligned, or too weak/strong)... and it's amazing how often I use the orange peeler! - The steel is gorgeous, never stains. It stays sharp for a long time (I sharpen it with a diamond stick maybe twice a year) - I use the toothpick for lots of tasks, from tooth hygiene to marlinspike for small problem knots. - It's comfortable to carry in a pants pocket. Too many of the Swiss Army Knives are so loaded down with less useful implements, and too thick/heavy for business trousers. - Hinge tension is perfectly balanced. The blades open easily without breaking a fingernail, but keep the blades securely inside the handle. Any Boy Scout will tell you that a knife is the very most important tool you can carry. With a knife you can make rope, which is the second most important thing you can have in a survival situation. With knife and rope you can make shelter, acquire food and water. With a knife you can make fire, defend yourself. In addition to my various copies of this knife, I own another dozen or so knives for other purposes: Multitools, hunting knives, a folding knife for opening mail, and the kitchen knives of course. But this is my workhorse knife, the one I carry on my person.

I'm a park superintendent and In my opinion, this is the best sized and most versatile Swiss Army knife. It is not too big and not too small. It is much smaller than a multitool and just about as versatile. As an older guy, I appreciate the readily available toothpick. Having a pair of scissors always in my pocket is wonderful. No more tearing open packages. I use the screwdriver more than my regular screwdriver. The file comes in handy as well for smoothing rough edges and removing burrs after cuts. And the two blades have been very helpful when scraping and cleaning. Oh, and they are good knife blades too! I'll continue to purchase this knife as I lose or if broken because it is the best knife made.

What more can be said for the Mercedes Benz of the pocket knife world!! This brand, and this knife in particular, is simply the best for its intended use - as a pocket-handy cardboard box opener, string cutter, splinter taker-outer, tooth picker, light-duty nail filer, and, yes, orange peeler! With it's rust-free blades, it's not for serious whittling (good old carbon steel holds the best edge for that), but for something that fits easily into your pocket, and does a lot, it can't be beat, I've lost a goodly number of these over the years, but that's not the knife's fault. Maybe what it needs is something to hook it to my hide. Even so, a great little knife to have around!!

My girlfriend bought me this because she knew i had been looking at it, and i'm so glad that she did. It was bigger than i expected which was a good thing. It fits perfectly in my hand and it is big enough to actually get some work done. Unlike a lot of swiss army knives i actually use every tool on this one. I thought i wouldn't use the orange peeler but i even find some uses for it. I have a lot of big multitools and they all end up sitting in a drawer, but the executive is literally in my pocket from the time i wake up to when i go to bed every single day. I carry three tools on me daily, a kershaw skyline, a leatherman juice s2, and the victorinox executive i can't think of a more efficient set of tools. If you are thinking of getting the executive i wouldn't hesitate. It is probably my most used tool.

Summary If you want a basic knife, that is right size, fits nicely in a pair of dress slacks, but is slightly larger than a Victorinox classic, consider the Executive. This is a very nice knife. I also own the Director, which is the same knife with stainless steel scales minus the toothpick, tweezers and key ring. The Director is a discontinued model. So, I wanted a backup - just in case. Pros - size: easily slips into a pocket and is barely noticeable. - long blade: perfect for a pen knife. - short blade: good for detailed work. - nail file: longer than most, the abrasions run to the edge - scissors: are a good size with the usual Victorinox quality - orange peeler: I just use it as a serrated blade - very sharp - shipping: was fast - screw driver (phillips/flat head): works well for small screws. be careful though. the driver is the tip of the "orange peeler". you won't want to use too much torque. the blade doesn't lock. so, be careful. Cons - none with the knife. it is exactly what I wanted. - packaging: the box arrived without shrink wrap - suggesting - however, I did have one problem - shipping charge. normally, the shipping charge is presented when a selection is made. this did not happen in this instance. so, I was surprised by the additional charge on the final bill. I don't blame the vendor and I am assuming that this is a web site snafu. I'm only mentioning it to benefit others who could make the same mistake.

I gave one to my dad a long time ago, a kind of joke since it had an orange peeler blade and he was the quintessential Florida kid. After his death I carried it but have since carefully packed it away and have bought several to take it's place. It is well made, blades are sharp, has just enough utility gizmos that it does 80% of what I encounter... if I need more I break a tool box or the old Leatherman. It is super lightweight. I don't need a knife in my pocket that can clean and gut a deer or kill an enemy sentry silently in the dark of night. Not being Sergeant Rock or apt to find myself cleaning big game without due preparation, what I need is a little package that will open my letters and small packages, pick my teeth, tighten a screw, and, yes, upon occasion, peel an orange. This little jewel disappears in my pocket until needed and does almost everything that I ask of it.

I am not sure exactly how many years I have used this particular knife. The executive model is the ideal pocket knife. Not too big not too small. I find it interesting that whenever I see a Victorinox display the executive is not present. The only way I can get it is by ordering it online. If you want a pocket knife that is big enough but not too big this is the one for you. I do my fingernails are use the scissors and the file. By the way they have improved the file on this model tremendously. The orange peeler is the odd man out unless of course you’d like to peel oranges.

Tengo este modelo por mas de 20 anos. Lamentablemente se esta danando el mango de plastico por lo que estuve buscando el reemplazo. Es un modelo poco popular, pero cumple su función me ha saco de apuros muchas veces, es mas pequeno que la navaja tradicional, pero no mucho comparado con otros modelos. Es compacto y uno olvida ternerlo en el bolsillo. En negro es una navaja elegante y exclusiva:) no muchos tienen este modelo por lo que resalta cuando haces uso de ella. Sigo en duda si reemplazar la que tengo o esperar hasta que ya no la pueda usarla y la tenga que reemplazar.

It's nice and small pocket size and it's got the scissors which are fantastic

Really like this knife! Use it virtually every day. Knives are sharp, file is more aggressive yet works really well. Tooth pick and tweezers useful. This is a pocket knife every pocket would do well to have. Knife was as described, came quickly and well packed. Very happy with this purchase!
