Does this have a similar consistency to Meltonian?

Former shoe shine boy. This has a more liquidy consistency than Meltonian. The closest I've found to old Meltonian creams is Kelly's Shoe Cream. Saphir is good too. That said, Tarrago is still a very good cream and produces an excellent shine, and has the advantage of being good for handbags, couches, and other soft leather items.

Can this product be used on a leather couch?

yes and it helps smooth over any cracking, Also good for other marks that appear on leather.

Does this also function as a waterproofer?

Don't know. It is a shoe polish and probably provides the level of waterproofing that one could expect of any shoe polish. It does not advertise itself to be a waterproofer.

I am rehabing a heavily soiled purse. If I use saddle soap to clean the purse first will I still be able to use the shoe cream?

The saddle soap will not hurt to be used first. The polish is creamy enough to clean and condition the leather by it's self. I would suggest that you try the polish first in a area that is not noticeable. NOTE: be sure that you have the correct color to match the purse color.

Beats paste polish, hands down

So smooth to apply, covers well and polishes to the perfect sheen. What more can I say? Well, there is this: be sure to use a small brush to apply so you don't get it on your hands as it does not wash off as easily as paste polish. I think this is because it's almost a thick liquid, it gets into the skin pores. Even so, highly recommend.

Works perfectly!

I have a Relic handbag I just love. Unfortunately, it got stained. In the process of trying to remove the stains, the bag faded- badly. I really wish I had taken a picture of the bag before I used this product so I could show the difference. It was amazing! The handbag looks brand new. The product was super easy to use, and I didn't smell at all. I'm extremely happy with this product, and should I need any more leather polish, I will be coming back to this company.

Ended up with black hands.
