Beautiful enough to frame
The most important thing you should know about this coloring book of mandalas is that each coloring page has a black background, not white. The areas you color in are translucent, so the colors really show through. Also, each mandala is printed the same on both sides of the page, so that either side you look at, it is the same. I color BOTH sides to make the colors very rich and vibrant. I also take a black marker and deepen the black background. Each mandala is then beautiful enough to frame! One more important thing to know is that the pages are a little more glossy than regular coloring books. The best way to color these pages is with a permanent marker, and make sure you have the fine point markers to use, as some of the places in each mandala to color in are very small and require a fine point so you won't mark out of the lines. I do not think crayons would work well at all, simply because you probably cannot get a fine enough point.A couple of the mandalas are Chinese in theme, with the yin-yang symbol. There is also one mandala that actually has a bodhisattva (Buddhist deity) on it; not sure if it is the Buddha, or Quan-Yin, but it IS Buddhist in nature, if you are interested. Each mandala is really pretty. There is only one in the whole series I did not like, but otherwise, each is it's own work of art.I can clearly remember owning this very same brand and coloring book back in about 1979 or so---I was just a kid. I remember it because of the black backgrounds and how painstaking I found it to color in as an impatient child. Maybe this is not the best coloring book AT ALL for a child, but for someone older, a teen or adult. I am a 42 year old woman who is disabled recently, and was looking for something relaxing I can do while in recovery. I was thrilled to find Dover still made these coloring books! If you are very crafty, you could cut each mandala out after you've colored it in, and seal it in with a spray-seal or with some kind of laminating sheets, hand each one with an invisible string on some wires, and make a beautiful colored mobile out of these. Or just hang them in a window.

Beautiful Designs
I was very pleased with this mandalas stained glass coloring book. The one I recently ordered and promptly received, was perforated so that it is easy to detach a page (with care).I used colored pencils because that's what I have on hand. It was very peaceful for me to color in this mandala, and as I was coloring, I found myself drawn into a mystical inner space that was really lovely. There is a kind of transcendental power to these designs, I believe. Mandalas are sacred designs, and coloring these mandalas is a way of making your life sacred, of tuning into that reality.Interestingly, I visited an oriental carpet shop in downtown San Diego since I started coloring in this mandala book, and some of the carpets had mandalas in the center. The sales clerk told me that in carpets they are referred to as medallions. I am thinking of embroidering one of these designs, adapting the details a little to please myself, onto an oven mitt and potholder. There are endless possibilities of how these lovely designs could be used. I'd like to have cloth bags made for grocery shopping with these designs imprinted on them (or something similar).

Good Variety of Styles and Shapes
Mandalas are such a matter of personal taste, I'm happy when I find four or five in a collection that call to me. This one had about 6. I didn't realize the "stained glass" part meant that they are transparent, but I made photocopies so I could color them in several different ways. I'm not a "serious" mandala person, I just enjoy having an adult coloring book to play with.

Beautiful artwork, wavy paper
I really love most of the designs in this coloring book. It's moderately detailed but not eye-strainingly so. Four stars because the paper gets wavy (maybe the humidity, nonetheless annoying), and to achieve an acceptable level of color, I had to color BOTH sides, not just one, so each design takes twice as much lead. I would recommend to anyone who enjoys moderately-detailed designs to color.

Best coloring book ever
I purchased this book as a gift for a friend to remember how much fun it was a child to color. But being grown up now I searched for a coloring book for grownups. When it finally came in the mail the images and details were so vivid and delightful to look at I was sorely tempted to keep it for myself. Great book, nice price and got here super fast. Oh and my friend just loved it, thank you very much, I will for sure recommend each and every one of these books.

Coloring, fun and creative.
If you remember the joy of Crayola coloring as a child, you will enjoy filling in the lovely designs featured here. I find it very relaxing to do so. You might like to know that you should plan on using gel type pens as crayons and colored pencils do not work very well.

Excellent selection of designs
There is a good selection of designs, and the print is on both sides of the page. The mandala will come out in much more vibrant colors if you use fine tip markers and color on both sides. The look beautiful in my windows and my only problem is that they don't perforate the edges of the page, so tearing the finished product out of the book is sort of a pain.

Wonderful Designs!
I love the designs and variety of designs. I've colored several for family members, and they have all proudly found places to display them. I recommend that you place a plan sheet of white paper behind the image you are coloring, otherwise the patterns from the next page obscures the patterns on the page you are completing. I also like that they have perforated pages - makes it so easy to take them out!

Nice mandalas
I am finding this book hard to review as I had not done any stained glass type colouring in books before. I thought I would really enjoy them but I have found I dont. However this is not because of this book but my own preference in colouring in.All the Mandalas are beautifully detailed and if you enjoy the stained glass style of colouring in then this is a lovely book.Stained glass colouring in is where you colour in one side on translucent paper and then put the picture up to a light or window to get the effect of stained glass. This was not for me but it is a good quality product with 16 Mandalas to colour in.

HOURS OF PLEASURE WITH THIS BOOK
I always buy one or two of these stained glass effect books for Christmas and spend endless hours just colouring in and listening to FM in the afternoons. My grandchildren (and my 50-year old daughter) beg the ones they like: the books are perforated and so it's easy to take one out for them to take home. Really good value.

beautiful patterns, interesting semi-transparent paper
I would have loved these semi-transparent pictures to colour as a child and so I'm now giving these to all the children inviting my daughters to their parties this year!

Good coloring project for adults
Interesting content with the 'stained glass' being transparent and the pages are perforated so they can easily be removed from the book. This was bought as a present and the recipient is very pleased with it.

mandala for windows
I bought this as a gift for my nan and she absolutely loved it, it has about 20 mandalas of different taste and you can hang them up on a window after colouring them.Seems to be of a good quality.
