Unplug and turn on its side so the two screws are upwards. Remove the screws and the side will slip off. The 1350AVR does use a harness which must be kept flat to the batteries and your tape may be wadding up as you slide the new ones back in (or try to get old swollen ones out). That one's a tight fit.
