The first three novels and the prequel novella in the million-selling Nate Temple Series: Obsidian Son , Blood Debts , Grimm , and Fairy Tale . My name is Nate Temple, and Iโm secretly a wizard. I ride a foul-mouthed unicorn, I drink with Achilles, and Iโm pals with the Four Horsemen. Iโve even cow-tipped the Minotaur. I understand the theory of following the rules...Iโm just not very good at the application. Because rules were meant to be broken, and St. Louis has a bit of a supernatural infestation these days. Someone should probably be keeping an eye on these things -and probably an eye on me, too. Before I blow up another building...or three. Fantastic read
Shayne Silvers continues to prove why heโs a powerhouse in urban fantasy with his latest books, delivering a wild emotional roller coaster across every installment. Each book is a perfect blend of heart-pounding action, razor-sharp wit, and emotional depth that keeps readers completely hooked. From the very first page, the action kicks into high gear and never slows down. Silvers masterfully crafts unexpected twist after twist, ensuring that just when you think youโve figured it out, another surprise turns the story on its head. His storytelling keeps you on edge, making each book impossible to put down. The characters are as sharp and engaging as ever. Whether itโs Nate Templeโs signature sarcasm or other fan-favorite characters stepping into the spotlight, their development and interactions add layers of depth to the chaos. The humor is always on point, keeping things light even in the darkest moments, but the emotional weight is never lost. And then there are the endingsโdeeply satisfying yet leaving just enough unanswered questions to make you crave the next book. Silvers knows exactly how to wrap up key plotlines while setting the stage for even bigger things to come. If you're a fan of action-packed urban fantasy filled with magic, mayhem, and larger-than-life characters, these books are absolute must-reads. Silvers delivers every time, and I canโt wait to see what happens next!

After reading this boxset, I am very invested in this series now. Cannot wait to continue on.
I had checked out this series before, but wasnโt too interested in it. But then another author's mailing list email brought it to my attention that this boxset was free, and decided it wouldnโt hurt to check it out. Iโm glad I did. I started reading book one, and before I knew it, I was half way through the book. Book 1: Obsidian Son- This book had good start. From the beginning, there was a mystery to it that I wanted to get to the bottom of. Unfortunately, that mystery wasnโt solved by the end of this book, but was thankfully solved by the end of the second book. I liked the humor aspect to the story. It helped to break up the more serious aspects of the story. Nate is tasked by three different people to find the same book. Heโs unsure what the draw of this book is, and doesnโt really know who two of the people even are. The entrance of dragons, and thus, dragon hunters, just adds to the trouble Nate has. Add to that his friend Peter, who is deeply suspicious from the start. Heโs suddenly wearing a bracelet, a bracelet he keeps touching, when he never wears jewelry, and suddenly has powers. Nate is wary if his friend, not sure what is going on. Peter is a life-long friend, and any betrayal will cut through Nate like a knife. All of Nateโs troubleโs come to an epic confrontation with the Dragon Lord, which includes the mysterious book and the rogue dragon everyone is hunting, also Nateโs client. This book had a really good ending. It was sad that Gunnar and Tory (a policewoman who joined their โteamโ) lost their jobs, but with the creation of their own โblack-opsโ team, they will still be doing what they know, and helping the town. I also like the fact that Misha and Raego (two Dragons) have become Nateโs, Toryโs, and Gunnarโs friends, and will help the group as well. Book 2: Blood Debt- Nate is hoping to resume a normal life, but heโs having night terrors that keep him up and affect his daily life. Then both Angels and Demons show up in St. Louis, further complicating things. The Angels want Nate out of the investigation into his parentโs murder, but why? Then the Academy of Wizards steps in, their Justices demanding Nate show them/give them the Armory, but he has no idea where/what it is. Upset at his lack of help, the head Justice Jafar places a curse on Nate that will deplete his powers as he uses them until there is nothing left and he is a Regular. Placing the curse on him really could endanger his life. There are demons running around, how will he defend himself if he has no powers? As I read this book, it had me upset and angry. Not at the writing, but at the lack of support Nate is receiving. His friends are away on vacations (much needed), his girlfriend is away to help her mother. All oddly suspicious to have happened at the same time. He is basically alone, except for Othello who miraculously shows up to help him. The Academy is against him. The police, FBI, the Angels, and the Demonsโฆ all against him as well. The Academy wants him to handle the Demon problem, then strips him of the powers he needs to do such a thing, then blames him for failing. No one listens to reason, and Nate is failing miserably without a good ending to the situation in sight. Plus, everyone wants the Armory Nateโs parents have hidden away, but at first Nate has no idea what/where it is, or what the Key is to get inside. Then, once he figures it out, Nate realized he absolutely cannot hand it over to any of those who desperately want it. The Key to access the Armory is literally impossible for Nate to hand it over, but once again, no one will listen to him. Nateโs showdown finds him facing another person who has betrayed him, but Nate has the powers of Death (of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse) on his side. This betrayer has set up Nate from the beginning, and Nate is furious. As he prevails, he discovers he has powers again, but he is no longer a Wizardโฆ heโs a Maker. Something that hasnโt been seen in hundreds of years. This book had a very emotional ending. As much as I was angry at this book, I was very happy at the ending. Nate is on to accomplish great things. Novella: Fairy Tales- Even though itโs a prequel, itโs a nice set up to the third book, Grimm. Well written, good back story. Book 3: Grimm- Once again, Nate seems way out of his league on this one. But, worse than ever before. The Brothers Grimm are back, and they are absolutely ruthless. One of Nateโs lines that pretty much explains it all is: โIn one night, my whole world had collapsed. Every pillar that supported me shattered.โ This book is making me upset too! The Grimmโs are officially screwing things up. Temple Industries is a mess, impostors have set up both Nate and Ashley, making it look like they had insider trading. Then the cake for Nateโs proposalโฆ. Everything is working against them, and itโs just not fair. I really hope the rest of the books arenโt like this. After the impersonators basically ended the company, I began to wonder if this whole situation had gone FUBAR. Honestly, if I had been Nate, I would have told everyone to pack their bags. Weโre done, weโre out of here to spend the rest of our lives somewhere nice, for however long that may be. I have to admire that he is still fighting. The Grimmโs just keep causing more and more trouble for Nate. Will it end? Will Nate be able to beat them? What an ending. An emotional, tears in my eyes kind of ending. And then Shayne Silvers makes everything okay. All my anger at this story was gone as he made it all okay again. A parting thought on this boxset. Throughout these books, I honestly feel bad for Nate. Not just because heโs always fighting for his life, but because heโs in the public eye as wellโฆ always in the public eye because of his family and the company. His life is in the public eye no matter what. Throughout these books, heโs always fighting to save his city, whether it be from dragons, Angels and Demons, or the Grimm brothers, and the destruction they all cause is caught on camera, reported on, and pretty much always blamed on him. He canโt publicly tell everyone the truth of whatโs going on, and it makes him look bad, or crazy. Thatโs why I feel bad for him. If only he wasnโt in the public eye, there might be a little less pressure for him, I guess. After reading this boxset, I am very invested in this series now. I am so, so happy I checked it out, and cannot wait to continue on.

The Best Way to enter the Templeverse! Bad idea if you think quality requires 3 years between books
I've been a fan of Urban Fantasy for quite awhile now. I've read all of Jim Butcher's work, all of Simon R. Greene's, quite a few other, lesser known authors as well. Now read closely: I have never come across an author like Shayne Silvers before. Never. These first 3 novels + short story are good, not perfect, but really amazing considering they are his first works of literature ever. Obsidian Son starts off amazing and might seem like a run of the mill story. In some ways it is and that's not always a bad thing. Beyond the first story though, that's when the true magic begins! You are going to be introduced to a large number of individual characters that are going to grow, change, have their own opinions about things and not just be a tool to be used if/when needed. You, as the reader, are going to walk along the timeline of events through one set of eyes while still gaining enough information from the other characters to see them evolve as well. Everything you read in these stories is important. Maybe not now, maybe not in the next book, but somewhere down the line it is going to hit you like a freight train and start rolling you over and over again. This is the beginning of something SPECIAL and it is going to change the way that fiction is written. Yes. I These stories give you a sense of involvement and investment beyond what I can describe here. You owe it to yourself to read this box set which contains the first 3 books. There are now 3 different protagonists all interacting within this same Universe, they all know about each other, sometimes interacting and helping each other, but they all have their own stories to tell. This is where it all started.

Worthy and more of the hype!
I had written a marvelous review here and my phone erased it ๐ก.... In essence, this series is a fabulous read! From the first scene, the minotaur tipping, I was hooked! I was dubious at first, as I had been burned by the hype and false reviews from sub-par authors who had an over inflated ego about their "talent". I had even been "blessed out" by one such author and his friend for daring to post an honest and constructive review. But I digress, this series definitely was a very pleasant surprise! From the well fleshed out, viable characters to the humor, sharp wit, and well detailed action scenes, this has been a definite jewel in my collection. I have also finished the latest in his series, "Silver Tongue" and I must have a word with the author..."please write faster! I'm champing at the bit waiting for more". This series lives up to it's hype, and to be honest, I would have paid more for it. (No ideas, Mr. Silvers, please, I AM on a budget lol). Well done, Shayne Silvers. I'm an avid and critical reader, and I give you my praise. Now, get back to your work โบโบโบ I need more adventure!

Excellent, well written series comes very recommended, but is not without a few pitfalls with characters...
The series is excellent, a prime example of an author who knows how to give voice and personality to characters to the degree of realism and definition. The stories flow well and present not only a clear look into the mind of the main protagonist, but also heap plenty of world building into the reader's purview without massive exposition dumps that break up the pacing or detract from the first person narrative. The plots are laid out well and there is always a sense of tension and turnabout as things unfold. This is definitely an author worth following and a series worth delving into fully. That said, the only thing keeping me from giving the series five stars overall is that it does have a couple of rather jolting flaws in regards to the character/plot developments. Given that the series is told in first person perspective, it is of course impossible to garner as immersive a look into the other characters as it is with the main protagonist, but many of the secondary characters feel decently fleshed out... Except for the women, I'm rather sorry to say. While they all have distinct personality for each, the female characters rarely seem to have much presence or development beyond some initial focus or going along with events in the story as stock characters. Each female character's "debut" is given excellent focus and makes them interesting and makes the reader want to see more... but then there really isn't much more given. Even the main character's romantic interest, while first introduced displayed great potential as a partner protagonist character, ends up coming off more as an idealized keystone to the main protagonist's personal happiness and doesn't come off as much else up to the most current book. The same for several other very interesting and very dynamic examples of good, well created female characters in the main cast, who beyond their introductions at their various points in the books, just seem to fall to the wayside for development. They fight, they participate, but there is little focus on their growth or change beyond what we first get to see of them. If it's regards to the author using it more of a sort of framing to the main protagonist's first person perspective view on everything, I could maybe see that. It wouldn't say much to the main hero not putting any proper focus on the women in his life, especially his romantic partner and how she really is and what she does and goes through, but I could see that. But again, there isn't very much shown. It especially stands out as there are some genuinely good emotional twists and turns through betrayals, set-ups, twists of fate and luck, and of course death. But for some that involve the female characters, especially in the most recent book, it hits hard but also hollowly. Yes, these are well done, genuine emotion evoking moments, but the changes or losses feel stagnant and mitigated since we don't know how these affect the women as they happen, or in some cases, know enough to feel full force loss when a character is taken out of the picture. It just feels like wasted potential that we don't see more with these excellently introduced female characters, especially for some who are supposed to be more significant to eachother and to events. I will continue to follow this series, and all the positives still remain, but I do hope the author taps more of the effort and development he showed with the introductions of these women into the story and its world as the series progresses further. Its all too easy to fall into pitfalls of tropes and cliches when it comes to character developments and inter-relationships in stories such as these, and this author has shown skill and creativity that prove he is more than capable of avoid that if he puts forth the effort for the characters.

Intriguing, frustrating, and heart warming
Such an excellent series that I can hardly wait to digest the next books. The protagonist is flawed and gets his butt kicked regularly, but he tries and tries again. Well worth the time and expense.

Fantastic - Urban Fantasy at its best!
As an eternal fan of urban fantasy, I honestly never found too many great authors who had the right mix of fantasy, Supernatural (not just the usual vampires and werewolves!), comic relief and fast pace. Shayne brings all that and more! Super!

Nate Temple, wizard is really....
As I started reading a the story about a smart mouthed billionaire playboy, he started to feel familiar. Then I realised "Its Tony Stark" The womanizing, the brilliance combined with arrogance, the unlimited funding and the disdain of authority, right down to the fact that he has an unrequited lust for an employee, just like Pepper Potts in the first Iron Man movie. I can picture the author over a few bottles of red wine with friends "Imagine Tony Stark was a wizard, instead of Iron Man...." and the concept for the series was born. The hard part about this for me as a reader is now that I've seen it, I can't unsee it. Nate Temple is Tony Stark the wizard. Now that I've got that off my chest. This is a really fun series, its thoroughly binge worthy and you'll enjoy it.

smart mouthed, wizard named Nate Temple
The world as we know it is not as it seems. There are the Regulars, everyday people that have no idea of the hidden world of magic that lives fully immersed in their world. A co-worker, a neighbor, the person riding the public transit beside you might be of that hidden world and a regular would never know. Then there are the Freaks. This refers to any person or creature of the hidden, magic world, whether it be a were-type, vampire, magical creature of legend, demi-god or wizard. The wizards are the ones who try to police the Freaks, preventing the Regulars from finding out about the magic world and generally trying to stop the more predatory Freaks from snacking on the regulars. The series follows a wise cracking, smart mouthed, wizard named Nate Temple, a procurer of very rare books who has an almost godlike ability in pissing people off. Nate knows a lot about the magic world but as he dives into investigating the mysterious deaths of his parentโs, he suddenly finds that some things that even he thought were myths do exist. The story has a natural flow that keeps you wanting to read more, and while each book is a story unto itself, the following books carry on the story line very well. The characters are introduced and filled out so that you come to appreciate every one and wait to see how they are going to evolve throughout the story. I would love to go into greater detail about the story, but I want you to discover the details for yourself. I do admit that there were times when I was reading where I thought, โWhy the hell donโt you see that?โ But it is easy to not see what appears to be obvious when you are the person in the middle of your own story, as I have experienced myself. So I simply kept reading, waiting for the light to dawn and for the resulting actions of the characters. And it was worth the wait. I will continue to follow this series and look forward to see where Nate Temple goes from here.

Fantastic series, loved every book so far and can't wait for the next <3
A fantastic series, the books had me hooked straight away I love Shayne's style of writing and just finished Grimm after getting the collection the other weekend and spent that weekend just reading. :) I kept telling my husband what was happening and how I felt about it all making him laugh at how much I'd gotten pulled into the story, I felt sorry for the characters, laughed at loud at some parts, almost cried at others, I'm very much looking forward to the next instalment in the series. Just included a picture of a Facebook post expressing how much I enjoyed the series. I highly recommend the Nate Temple series. :)

Super book, you have to read it.
I really enjoyed this, have had it in my library for a while and as soon I read it, I had to get it all read and finish it. I really liked this book and will look for more by this author. The story keeps you interested, the pace is good and Nate is a strong person who you are glad has a good set of friends to help him. He even finds a love, who he thinks dies.I am hoping there are more.
