Port-A-Crate Indoor and Outdoor Home for Pets, Collapsible and Portable

After having this crate for two months I've come to the conclusion that this is AWESOME. I am buying two more... one for each dog. It is easy to store (folds flat), transport (MUCH easier to set up in a SUV or car than one of those metal crates), carry (the handle is nice), and clean (take off the cover; wash, dry, put back on easily and there are no issues with wear and tear from the W/D as of yet). I bought this originally for two puppies that we adopted when they were about 4 months old... A Border Collie Mix and a Flat Coated Retriever - about 15 lbs each. I crated them together in one 36 inch crate for about two months. They're too big to sleep together in the crate at the same time - now 40 and 30 lbs - but individually it fits them perfectly. The 36 inch size may be too small for the retriever when he is full grown. The 70lb limit set by the manufacturer seems accurate. And yes, my dogs do chew, but they haven't taken to chewing this crate, or it is so minimal I haven't even noticed. What we put in the crate for them was a thick dog bed covered with a blanket, a couple of non-squeeky toys so they could chew at night and not wake us up, and one of my night shirts that I didn't mind being chewed on. My husband read something about putting worn shirts into the crate since it has the owner's scent on it, the puppies feel more comfortable. We also have a Keeshond who is almost four and I crate trained him until he was 1 1/2. He will freely walk into this crate and lay down with the door open. He's not as keen on the idea of sleeping in there all night, but that's just because he's used to sleeping on our bed. I was a little weary of getting this crate simply because of the reviews. Two of the "1" star reviews are IDENTICAL posts written by the SAME PERSON. Three of them are over two years old. I am assuming that companies update their product more often than every two years OR the issue of Amazon posting a different picture than what they send is now fixed. The "2" and "3" star reviews are just silly. These people's dogs were not crate trained - see below - and they're blaming the lack of training their dogs had on the "cheapness" of the crate. The dog has to *ACCEPT* the crate; not want to get the heck out of it after two seconds. Some of the other non-five star reviews are along the same lines. Animals getting anxious or bored and pawing or chewing the crate. If dogs chew or paw excessively and you don't have a way of stopping bad behavior with your animal, this crate IS NOT for you... That includes when you put a dog in a metal crate and they paw at the door to try and open it. It may seem cute in a metal crate and you think nothing of it, but that will ruin mesh very easily. This is a sturdy mesh but enough paws at the material with long nails and it's ruined. Definition of "Crate Training" from Wikipedia: Crate training is the process of teaching a pet to accept a crate or cage as a familiar and safe location. Advocates claim that dogs are den-dwelling animals and that a crate can become a den substitute. Update 12/16/12: We still have the same three crates that we originally purchased. At first I thought that the 36" crate would be too small for our retriever, but he fits inside it well and loves it! We keep the crates against a wall in our living room and I will often walk by them and see each of our dogs inside their individual crates just napping, without us asking them to "go to bed". The crate covers have been through multiple washes, and while they do skink if you dry them, they still fit over the frame. We still have our metal crates but I'm honestly not sure why as I cannot think of a situation where we would use those over these soft-sided crates.

This crate is perfect in SO MANY ways; it is attractive, the cloth cover removes ( for washing, just to freshen it once in a while) and (when the cover IS removed) the metal frame collapses conveniently for storage in a closet or in the car. This crate has nice mesh ventilation points on the front and sides of the crate . JUST 1 " CON" The zipper on our first crate broke as I was zipping it up- I tried to have it repaired but it was cheaper to just buy another one ( bummer) -SO -ZIP THIS UP SLOWLY.. THE CRATE IS SURPRISINGLY ROOMY( our 80 pound "BIG boy" would sometimes like to " hang- out " in his 38 pound little " sister's" crate,LOL. A WORD TO THE WISE: I WOULD NOT recommend this crate if your dog is an "escape artist" ; a dog who will chew, claw *( the material would NOT ,in my opinion, stand up to a determined set of claws ) *etc. to get out; as the MATERIAL of the crate is (pleasantly) light weight ( easy to move- good ventilation) BUT WAS OBVIOUSLY NOT MEANT TO HOLD UP TO THAT KIND OF ABUSE. My mild -mannerd little "girl" will stay comfortably quiet for as long as it takes to get ones teeth cleaned and stop for lunch on the way home ( 3-4 hours). BUT I WOULD NOT trust this " crate" to contain our ( adorably) rambunctious 2 year old Belgian Malinoise "tornado of energy and determination" dog, if she chose to get out ha-ha- for her we bought a $600.00 gorgeous ( super sturdy) mahogany crate that looks( and doubles ) as an end table in the livingroom- we place this easily portable crate ( for our quiet girl) next to her sister's sturdy wooden one when we go out and both are happy- AND WE'RE happy that we can pick this crate up( easily) and pop it in an upstairs closet ( out of sight) when we return home! PLEASE DON'T LEAVE YOUR DOG(S) CRATED FOR 6,8 or more hours, no bathroom breaks ( how would YOU LIKE THAT?) NO WATER. PLEASE FIND ANOTHER WAY (doggy day care, hiring a dog walker ( from a reputable source) to come let your dogs out for a break or walk.We have always treated our furry babies as WE would want to be treated-they have the same needs as we do, exercise, bathroom breaks, ,a drink of water,companionship ( YES THEY MISS YOU WHEN YOU'RE AWAY! I hope my review helps and enlightens my fellow dog parents. I'm going to go kiss my 2 "babies" right now!

Great portable crate! We bought this as we were traveling a lot over the past summer and needed something lighter than our metal crate for our fur baby. Not only is this much lighter and easier to carry but it’s much easier to set up and take down than a metal crate is. Checking in and out of various hotels and having an easily assembled home for our dog that was minimal fuss was wonderful. I think the quality is also good especially for the price. Some people mentioned in the reviews their dog chewed/clawed the crate open and damaged it. This was not an issue for us. I would say though that my dog is not a chewer on anything she’s not allowed to chew on so for us the crate held up very well (If you do have quite the avid chewer I would not buy this crate, but I guess any pop-up/portable crate would not be an option for you really). She did sometimes scratch at the front of it (out of excitement to get out when she saw us) but it held up well and she caused no damage. One day she was a little Houdini and got out of the crate while we were away but that was our fault since we forgot to secure the zippers on the special clip for them so they can’t be pulled apart, but that’s on us! For size reference I attached some photos, we bought the 28 inch one. Our dog could have easily fit comfortably in the 24 inch one but for some reason she doesn’t like to bow her head to walk into a crate and prefers the extra clearance, so we sized up. She’s an 18 lb cockapoo. Very happy with the purchase! **UPDATE** my husband read my review and says I remember the “Houdini” moment incorrectly, he mentioned that she did actually open the zipper from the seam and got out (I thought we just forgot to secure the zippers to the clip) However, this only happened once so it could have been a fluke incident. Due to this I changed my review to 4 stars, I trust my hubby remembers it better lol !

I am really pleased with this crate. I needed something for my Australian Shepherd who is not crate trained while she recovers from a knee injury. It's exactly what I was looking for. The crate definitely had a strong chemical smell for a few days so give yourself some airing out time before you need to put your pet in it. Probably outside in a strong breeze would be a good plan! The fumes would have definitely worried me if I had needed to put my dog in it all the time right away. It has since aired out and works great. It sets up and packs down in about half a minute. I bought the FurHaven Pet Nap Terry 27-Inch by 36-Inch Orthopedic Pet Bed to go in it and that fits exactly and perfectly. I just leave the mat inside the crate when I fold it up for storing. The crate is roomy for my Australian Shepherd. She can stand and turn around easily with some room to spare. My Aussie looks and fits about the same inside the 36" crate as the picture of the Weimaraner in the crate. Plenty of head space and room to sleep toward the rear or toward the front. I was a little worried about the "step" in the front because my dog is recovering from a knee injury, but it is low enough that it's not a problem at all. The soft construction works great for me and seems sturdy and adequate for my dog, but ... if your dog chews at all forget about it! The top and front flaps roll back out of the way and attach easily with velcro. The side and rear dog-bone shaped windows are fixed mesh. Not too sure about the air flow through the dog bone windows and might be concerned about heat building up in it if it was hot out. The zippers work great. The top is strong enough to hold a sleeping cat but probably not strong enough to do it very often without causing the fabric to sag. The cats like the crate also. It's super lightweight and very easy to put up and take down. It folds up pretty flat (about 3 inches deep). It has straps that hold it closed and a carry handle. It's a little bulky to move it around when it's all set up, but still manageable and easy to get it in and out of the SUV. The light weight made it a little tippy in the car. I had to tie it down because I was afraid it was going to tip over while I was driving on winding mountain roads. The tipping thing might be somewhat due to the crate being larger than my dog needs? It has little tabs with grommets that can be used to tie or stake the crate down. The bottom of the crate is a vinyl material that would make clean up easy. Overall very pleased. It's a lot prettier than a wire crate and definitely cozier for my dog. Planning to get another one for my other Aussie for traveling.

Got this crate for a beginning agility class where a travel crate is mandatory equipment. My dog is about 60 pounds and already trained to kennel, so we haven't had any issues with this crate at all. (I wouldn't expect ANY dog who is not crate trained to refrain from destroying any soft-sided crate... they really aren't made to stand up to that kind of use.) So far this one is working out great for us; cost about half as much as the comparable crate at the local big box pet store, and less bulky to carry around. Super fast to set up and take down, has clips to hold it closed for carrying when collapsed and a sturdy carry handle, too. It only has one opening, as opposed to others I've seen where you can also open the side(s), but that's actually perfect for me. I also really love that the mesh bone-shaped windows on the sides are smaller, because it reduces my dog's ability to clearly see the other dogs in the room so it kind of helps keep her calmer. She seems to prefer the sort of cave-like feel of this crate over her normal wire one. The zipper opening on top is very handy, though I don't know how good air circulation would be in there if we were outside in the summer, as it doesn't have as much mesh as a lot of other crates. I don't plan to do actual agility trials or dog shows or anything like that with my dog, but several classes I intend to take her to (like nosework) also require a crate, so I suspect we'll get a lot of use out of this kennel. One day I'd really like to have an SUV-type car with more room in the back where I could just make this her designated travel kennel... I think she'd feel a little more secure on car trips if she could ride inside the crate. So far I'm super happy with this product; if I have any problems with it or it wears out prematurely, I'll be sure to come back and update my review.

I wasn't expecting a whole lot when we bought this, but we were pleasantly surprised by the quality and ease of this travel kennel. It is (by far) the easiest kennel setup I have ever used (and I work with dogs so I've used a LOT), and the material is very durable. It takes only one person about 45 seconds to set it up. Because it is a soft crate it is obviously not for dogs that chew, and we only keep our dogs in it when we are home with them (they have larger wire crates for that). It is extremely lightweight and easy to carry, but that can be a downside when the dog is moving around inside as it can tip the kennel over. It does have tabs at the bottom to connect stakes into or tie it down, though. It also has a nice carry handle and as I said it is very lightweight. We bought it for our 55lb Staffordshire but both of our 75lb German Shepherds are able to fit in it comfortably as well. It also has a top opening too so if you have smaller dogs you can just reach in through the top to take them out/put them in and/or place food, water, toys, etc into the kennel. Overall I am VERY satisfied with this kennel and it was well worth the price. It was also shipped quickly, although it is not in a cardboard box and just open to view and the box was a little damaged when we received it but the product was not. I've already got family members with dogs asking about where to buy it for themselves. We'll see how it lasts durability-wise and how it stands up to heavy/frequent usage, but so far things are looking good.

I give at least 3 stars because it's well made, well designed, and is indeed a very good portable "home" for transporting your large(r) pet in something other than just the back seat (I can't imagine anything other than a good-sized dog being the intended pet, but who knows). As a crate however, I cannot give it more than 3 stars, as it is not nearly durable enough for that purpose. A crate is not meant to be a cage for a dog. It is, however, meant to confine your dog for a short amount of time as you train him or her to understand boundaries (including when and where not to eliminate). The mesh door on the front is like tissue paper for an energetic puppy, and the small "windows" aren't enough, for my rather social dog, to let her know I'm there yet not _right_ there. My more cage-like crate that is cumbersome and hard to carry is far more effective. But this is really well made, and when we need to take our dog for a ride for a while this is a nice option. We usually leave it on one end of the backseat with a big dog bed in it (it's really quite large) and the flap open but down. She can get up and sit on the seat and look out the window, or crawl in and take a nap. And it all folds down and clips together for a very portable profile.

I now own three of these in 24, 32 and 36 inches. They are one of my favorite dog purchases! My dogs happily sleep and hang out in these. We zip them in at night or when we leave them home alone. I really like that I can unzip the top to check on them or cover them with a blanket if it gets cold. They are much cozier, easier on the eyes, and don't feel as bulky as the plastic kennels that we used to use. I love that I can wipe down the inside, spray it out, or even take it apart and wash it in the washing machine as necessary. I have done all of these, but I think that frequent trips through the machine will break down the interior waterproof coating faster. (Since I have dogs with continence issues, I also put a rubber sheet under their bedding to help reduce the need for washing the kennel.) These fold down nicely and are wonderful for travel. We even keep a fleece bolster bed in there when we travel and it folds up fine, just not as flat as it would be without it. My dogs like to lay on top of it too, but I discourage that as I don't want to stretch out the top of the cover. That said, I have set the smallest one on top of the larger one to have a bunk bed configuration when we've been in tight quarters while traveling. Everywhere we go, people ask about our awesome kennels - I'm thinking I should start getting a percentage of the sales I've made. The only possible weakness I have found is the front zipper. We bought one and exchanged it close to the 30 day mark because the zipper didn't run smoothly, and when it didn't "break in", I was worried that it wouldn't hold long term. (Since Amazon is so awesome, that was a simple process and I had the replacement before I had even returned the original.) I try to be gentle when zipping and unzipping, and so far none of them have given me any problems, but I'm not sure that would be the case if I was just yanking the zipper (as my kids are prone to do.) Our various kennels have been in use now between two to ten months. Update: Six months later and the zippers continue to run smoothly. Still loving these kennels! Update: 10/11/17 I love these so much I bought a fourth one last spring so each dog has one upstairs and downstairs. I saved some money on the last one by buying it in “like new” condition from Amazon Warehouse, and I’ve been perfectly happy with it. My oldest crate is now almost two years old. This is our biggest one and sits right next to the couch in the family room. Since it’s close to the fireplace, I sometimes have to shoo off a dog that wants to lie hammock style on top to soak up the warmth, or tell my teenage kids not to rest their legs on top of it while watching TV. I recently realized that one of the top bars was no longer latched. It turns out that the plastic thingy that connects the two bars has cracked. It’s probably repairable with super glue, but I haven’t messed with it because it would likely break again with the excessive weight put on it, and now it just ensures that everyone stays off of it. Despite this, the crate has retained it’s shape and works just fine for us - except it can’t hold weight on top any more. Since this is not the crate we use for travel, it hasn’t affected its functionality for us at all, and we can still zip in our dog when we leave the house. Also, this summer our small dog scratched a hole thru the mesh of his crate while we were traveling. He’s been using these for a year and a half and this was the first time. I assume he was particularly stressed because he hasn’t done it again with his second carrier. Until I figure out how to repair it, he now just uses this one as his bed at home with the mesh rolled up. As a result, I am changing this from five stars to four. However, I still would choose to buy these again to replace the ones that have been damaged as they are priced so well.

I was very impressed when I removed the crate from the package. Easy to set up and close. Very light and can be folded and put away ( can easily fit under a bed !! ) I have an female, Alaskan Malamute, about 61 lbs and it fits her perfectly !! Once it was set up she went inside and made herself right at home. There is no mattress at the bottom so I placed her bed inside ( a square dog bed ). I do not think this would be good for a puppy ( they would probably chew on it ) but a more mature one might. Not good for plane travel but great for anything else For the price I paid, I am ( and my dog ) are very pleased with this dog crate.

This is my 2nd Petnation soft crate. I bought the first one over 6 years ago and it's still going strong. Used it for an easy set up crate for dog competitions and classes as the metal ones were noisy, heavy and I was constantly getting my fingers pinched in them. My dog clearly preferred going into the soft crate over the metal one so I eventually replaced the metal crate in our bedroom with it and he's been using it ever since. With a new dog now, I opted for another Petnation soft crate and it works so well with the new dog who is a bit nervous of loud sounds and moves around quite a bit at night, trying to get settled. The fabric doesn't rustle - it's sturdy and while I certainly would not recommend a soft crate for a puppy or a dog that's an aggressive chewer, it holds up to regular wear and tear quite well. No more clanging around in a metal crate or heaving 5 kilos of metal crate around or getting my fingers pinched!

We bought this so we could put it on our trailer and take the dogs with us on rides. Assembly is just a matter of folding it open and locking the top bars together. It takes all of 30 seconds to open it up or put it away. It is super lightweight with lots of ventilation. The framework is plenty strong enough for me to put a couple of bungees over it to hold it on the trailer.

Esta perfecta, la verdad la calidad es excelente y a mi perrita le encanta; incluso tiene varias funciones, puedes abrir el techo y cerrar la puerta y queda como corralito o puedes enrollar la malla que sirve como puerta, no guarda malos olores, y es muy acogedora, vale cada peso; yo la quise comprar más grande para que mi perrita tuviera mucho espacio ya que le encanta tener su rincón para estar en el día ahi, pero mi perra es talla S y compre la medida M de casa, así que creo si coinciden las medidas estándar de perros con la de las casitas
