I would guess whether or not you like this movie depends on your age and if you prefer sex and violence. At the age of 68 I thought this was one of the best films for adults. Sometimes I think you have to think beyond the superficial story line to understand what it's really about and this was one of those movies. It was also nice not to have useless sex scenes and gory violence pop up every 2 minutes or to have to listen to vulgarity non-stop.

Delightful movie with powerful performances
The actors all turned in wonderful performances in this romantic comedy. Michael Douglas and Diane Keaton turned up the quality of this genre with their always fantastic acting.Of course, romantic comedies are not everyone’s taste and these two big name talents may have attracted some viewers (and critics) misleading them into expecting a different type movie. But I thought the movie over delivered because of the super talented actors, even the smaller parts were strong actors, eg Rob Reiner. All of the actors showed the audience a great deal of respect by bringing their best to their, often silly, roles. The movie is a quality romantic comedy, with laughter, tears, and human connections. You simply have to enjoy that genre to appreciate it.

Waste of talent on lack of material
Seldom write reviews for movies but this one is worth warning to pass on. I have loved watching both Michael Douglas and Diane Keaton in the past and know their talent for acting, but this movie was so ridiculous, poorly-scripted, erratic and boring that it was disturbing to even finish it. I just kept watching and hoping that it would improve, due to the acting talents of these two, but it never did, in fact, it went downhill steadily. Neither character was believable, lovable, or even interesting and the script, oh my, what an overall stupid movie and waste of time. Pass on this, trust me.

Life goes on... even when you don't want it to.
The bitter widow, affecting everyone around him, purposefully pushing everyone away because he doesn't need anyone... learns he needs *everyone*. Funny, often ridiculous, at times raw and best of all heartwarming, we follow the protagonist's growth past middle age and well into the autumn of his life where he finds himself seeking reprieve from the knocks life has given him. Curl up with a glass of wine on a chilly day. This feel-good movie will warm you right up.

A-1 movie
As others stated it is predictable but it did have those gotcha moments. I thought that the acting was great in the movie. The characters were fantastic. I would highly recommend this movie to others who love Diane Keaton and/or Michael Douglas. I will definitely watch this again.

Just when I was on the digital fence...
and was just about ready to stop buying dvd's in favor of "going digital"...I saw the trailer for this on some older dvd, went straight to Amazon, & added it to my cart (which became a game of back'n'forth with adding/saving for later til the blu-ray price dropped to lower than the DVD)! So I finally ordered it, got it in 2 days (LOVE Prime!), then added it to my growing stash of new (wrapped!!) movies until...one gray, rainy, stay-home Saturday, I passed by the stash and, since it was right on top, decided to pop it in & get comfy. If not the best movie ever, it's definitely the BEST..movie..I've seen in a looonnnggg time! A little predictable at times, but I didn't care..the chemistry between DK & MD was spot-on (kinda like Bogey & Bacall; Meg Ryan & Tom Hanks; or Diana Ross & Billy Dee Williams!) Not sure why I don't recall it coming to the big screen, but wow...I'm forever grateful for small screen previews! Def a keeper 💜

Insincere
Really, really bad. I had to stop watching because it was getting worse and worse every minute. The main actors are far too talented to act in a film of such poor quality. And though I've cared very much, in particular, for the work of Michael Douglas over the years, I thought every actor, even the little girl, was insincere. And I agree with comments of others, who felt the crudity in this film was rather disgusting, and insulting to the viewer. I guess I've said enough to indicate my feelings. Don't waste your time with this one!

antics of a curmudgeon, help you to see the man....
very funny and gives you a real life-real people kind of comedy. The reality is as you get older, perspective on miserable people gets more in depth and you can see that miserable people, sometimes are just sad hurt people- this movie takes a blunt view of a seemingly nippy curmudgeon and allows the viewer to warm up to him, and see through his rough exterior, through laughter, ridiculous but common real life behavior and through interaction between men & women , and the messed up relationship that parents sometimes have with their kids, but that is always bound in love. More of a movie for grownups who have a perspective in life...

Didn't live up to my expectations.
Watchable. But not rewatchable. I had high expectations for a Diane Keaton movie, but this is the second one I've seen recently that doesn't meet expectations. Yet another American movie with a redemption theme. It tries to convince us that Orin's character is flawed because of the unhappiness he felt after his wife's death. Then, hey presto, changed into a human being because of a child and the lady next door. I 'm only surprised that there was no mention of god or prayers. I guess when great comedic actresses get old they are only presented with largely substandard plots to choose from. Disappointing, but hey, I've seen worse.

And so it Goes
A very simply story, with a superb dialogue and headed by two wonderful middle age actors : Dianne Keaton and Michael Douglas.A great formula to produce such a good film. It is a master class of top acting. Great direction, film script and camera work.

Lovely film
I've usually liked Diane Keaton's films, but have never been a fan of Michael Douglas. However, it is good to see how the rich character he plays changes within the film. Even when his granddaughter is left with him while his son goes to jail, Douglas is totally unfeeling and the child then stays with Keaton. However, the relationships gradually change as the story progresses.
