Android Application Development All-in-One For Dummies

Anyone who has tried to learn programming from a book, without the help of a tutor, knows how outrageously difficult and frustrating it can be. This is one of the few books I've read in my career that makes it (almost) possible to learn from complete scratch without taking a class or hiring a tutor. With tutoring rates starting at 50 dollars an hour, this book can save one a bundle. There will always be places that leave one confused (it's impossible to write a technical book without those) but one can highlight the "problem areas" and do research from other sources. My only complaint about the book is that making Android programming so accessible will invite more people to the field and bring salaries down!

covers the basics of everything and gets you a foot hold into expanding you knowledge into Android with Koltin along with the set up of Android studio, launching your own app. and even monetization! I love it, I hope to make my own app and create a new income stream :)

Good introduction to Android ap development.

Decent book to introduce you to android development. You will learn Android architecture, Kotlin, Android classic way of development using XML. Some contents are outdated though, almost all android studio content can't be applied due to the many updates to the IDE in the 6 years since this book was written. If you can get it for a huge 80%+ discount go for it.

I believe this may be an excellent reference book for the seasoned Android developer. The initial chapter is good for getting started, after which the content is very heavy going indeed and does not provide the possibility to learn by example, if that is your preferred method of acquiring skills. I cannot recommend this literally and metaphorically, heavy book to a dummy and certainly not to a beginner. My 3 star rating is not overgenerous.

I had high hopes for this book: it seemed to be designed for my needs, which were to find out how to develop and build apps in Android. I did not have to wait, for it was delivered next day as part of my Prime subscription, and so i settled in for a read. It was only when I took the book to my computer that it became apparent that there had been no technical review of the book, because the "Hello World" example could not have been tested. Basically, it was missing. Without this basic step, all progress stopped. I suspect that at least one of the five star reviews is a plant, for there is no way anyone could make this work from the description. I should have given credence to the other one star reviewer.o Having spent. £22 on this book, I will persevere when I can recover the will to live, and post updates. In the meantime I can only advise you to find another way of learning to build apps for Android. I have contacted the author in an attempt to get out of this jam. It will be interesting to see when I get a response and whether that does the trick. It gives me no satisfaction to write this bad review.

I think the idea is good but not good to follow 4 years after the book was created. The Android studio is extremely different to the one that is shown in the book, so I can't even get started. I downloaded the latest Android studio but after that it says things that are not there so I can't continue. Is there a more up to date version?
