From the Worldwide Best-Selling Treat Your Own Series, this Book offers Education and Self-Treatment Techniques to Help You Get Better and Stay Better Hip pain affects our ability to perform daily tasks like putting on socks or shoes, and our ability to move naturallyโto get up from sitting and get in and out of the car. Going up and down stairs becomes difficult; and some people develop a limp, which causes pain in other areas as the body tries to compensate. This type of pain is often diagnosed by health professionals as hip arthritis, or โosteoarthritisโ. Common treatments including medications, injections, surgery, acupuncture, or electrical modalities such as ultrasound, TENS and interferential therapy may provide short-term benefits, but the pain often reappears. If you are one of the millions of people struggling with hip pain, you are seeking more than temporary hip pain relief. This book provides education, a systematic exercise sequence, and recommendations for lifestyle habits that can help you abolish pain and, where appropriate, regain full mobility and strength in the hip or as much movement as possible under the given circumstances. Written by physiotherapist Robin McKenzie, Treat Your Own Hip provides a rational explanation for the causes of hip pain. Youโll gain an understanding of how the hip works and what causes hip pain. Youโll then be introduced to the McKenzie Methodยฎ, which is a series of progressive exercises that you can do to self-treat pain and help prevent recurrence. This exercise program includes details on when to perform exercises, how to determine if youโre ready to move on to the next exercise, how to perform the exercises correctly, what to do when the pain has subsided, and how to prevent recurrence of pain. Youโll also receive information about lifestyle habits for optimal hip care. In Treat Your Own Hip youโll learn: The problem with MRI results Myths about hip pain How to determine if your pain is coming from your hip or low back The basic anatomy of the hip region The functions of the hip The basics of mechanical hip pain and how tissue damage occurs Common causes of hip pain and how to manage it How the McKenzie Method works A simple exercise sequence that offers a systematic approach to treating hip pain Color photos and details showing when and how to perform the exercises Acute management and prevention of pain recurrence Lifestyle habits to help treat and prevent hip pain This patient handbook provides an easy-to-follow self-treatment plan to quickly and effectively diagnose, alleviate, treat and manage debilitating hip and related pains, even for the long-term sufferer. Written by Robin McKenzie, CNZM, OBE, FCSP (Hon), FNZSP (Hon), Dip MDT, Dip MT; with Grant Watson, NZSP, ADP (OMT), Dip MT, Dip MDT; and Robert Lindsay, NZSP, ADP (OMT), Dip MT. Illustrated. Softcover; 88 pages. Review: One of the most logical & effective books on treating hip pain - As a physical therapist myself, itโs important to me that patients are given resources that not only help them to become self-reliant, but tools that actually make them better. There are many tools available in the industry (exercises, modalities, etc.) but not all of these are created equal. Not by a long shot. Robin McKenzie is one of a pipeline of talented clinicians from New Zealand that through the rich history of NZ physiotherapy (beginning with the arrival of European physio, Kaltenborn) and the clinical experience of treating hundreds of patients and developing an accurate sense for pattern recognition, have created a system/method for treating major musculoskeletal injuries without the use or need for drugs, surgery, or the reliance on other healthcare professionals. Treat Your Own Hip gives the reader an opportunity to assess and treat his or her own hip pain. The language is concise and the book is fully illustrated, making this guide user friendly and ready to implement from day one. Review: Help Yourself - I'm the kind of person who doesn't run to the doctor for every little ailment I have, and this whole series of books is great. If you are disciplined enough to do the work, there are practical exercises to help you, and they really worked for me! There are also books on healing your own neck, back, etc.

Emphasis on self-diagnosis and self-treatment
Explains why pain happens. Not just a collection of exercises. Shows how to distinguish between hip pain caused by back problems and hip problems. Short -- only 88 pages. Clearly written, but best approached in short sessions. Kindle readers -- font size is NOT adjustable. Type is small on my HD10. Need reading Glasses. However, the formatting is fine; type is clear. Pictures and diagrams are fine. Highlighting does work. You might prefer a paperback if you don't like small type. Amazon samples are useless. Shows author credentials but no intro material or table of contents. No way to judge the product.

I do think it's working
Written in very simple and clear English Almost too simple. The method is based on four main exercises with progresions I am sad to say they have made virtually no difference to an on going problem .There again it may work for you
