Benson Mills Longport Crossweave Woven Vinyl Placemat, Beige, Set of 4

I ordered these to use alternating placemats with Benson Mills Twill Ice when I couldn't find more of the Twill. The Longport weave matches the Twill in color (both are "Ice"), although the pattern is much simpler and the weave more open. The color of the table underneath shows through even more with the Longport, and that's not necessarily a bad thing in my case since my dining area uses both dark wood and industrial metal. The placemats show enough of the dark wood table top to soften the silvery color while still matching the trestle underneath.Each woven piece contains several different colors -- a metallic silver, putty, white, pewter, even bronze -- although they look silver-gray overall.These placemats WILL allow spills to go through to the table, so don't buy them if that's what you want to prevent. I bought them to protect my table from scratches and glass rings, and they work perfectly for that. These do wipe up with a damp sponge, although major food spills will definitely require a dip in a sink of warm soapy water. I find them easy to clean, and because they are vinyl, I don't have to worry about wrinkles or permanent stains.I never thought I'd go for vinyl placemats, but after seeing so many in restaurants and liking the look, I was converted. Beautiful, slightly glossy, easy to clean.The placemats are vinyl but look like fabric so they have a very pretty, refined look. They always lay flat. No fuss!A small bonus is that the back side has reverse coloring from what is pictured-- so it has a darker rectangular pattern and lighter vertical background. Nice if you're looking to change things up a bit.For the most part you can wipe off any mess that gets on the thing, every once in awhile you may have to give it a quick scrub in the sink if it gets between the weaving. Still beats throwing it in the washer, struggling with stains, and ironing down a fabric placemat.I purchased this in Taupe to go with my wood dining set. Also purchased with the  Lipper International Coasters, Acacia, Set of 6  on this site (also reviewed). They go nicely together as a set, VISUALLY. Unfortunately I can't vouch for the quality of the coasters like I can with these beauties. Still worth considering if you can't find anything better.

At first, I would have given a 5-stars rating to these placemats. I love the shades of grey and how it shimmers under the our dining room light. We have received several compliments. These are easy to clean, so machine washing is not necessary and the color will not fade with time. The mat is woven together, so the edges are open and can get frayed. At this price point, it's not a big deal. I have easily trimmed the frayed edges. The price on Amazon is relatively affordable compared to other placemats on the market. However, I took one star off when I found the same placemats at the local Walmart store for more than 1/2 the price. Walmart.com does not show these particular mats. Overall, I would recommend these placemats to friends and family but I'd recommend checking Walmart first.

A good placemat is surprisingly hard to find....the very pretty ones are usually fabric, which are so difficult to keep clean, expensive and very high maintenance for every day use and most plastic placemats are hideous. This placement has the beauty of a textured linen but are so easy to sponge off or run through the top drawer of the dishwasher when needed. I ordered three sets of these and use them for everything from everyday use, keeping some on the countertops to save our marble, sometimes lining a cabinet shelf/drawer and of course as a placemat. The beige color is a very pretty sandy color that go well with our beach house and the gray ones are more industrial looking that add to the chicness of our city apartment. This is a great value for the price and will hold up well.

I bought these to put at my 1 year old daughters place at the table to also blend with the color of the table. But I thought these were solid through. They are not so food can easily get stuck in the weaving. I returned and went to a local bed and bath store to view in person. I found ones identical in color to these but solid through and oval which worked better with my wood oval table anyway. And i bought only two for that purpose. If you are not concerned about food getting stuck in them, then they are lovely.

I got these in turquoise, and have to admit, was a little nervous ordering them, not knowing what shade of turquoise to expect. Absolutely love them! There are several soft shades of blue and gray, and all of them go great together. It's hard to find a design like this in vinyl. The fact that they are reversible makes it even better. I've given 4 stars since we haven't used them yet and don't know how durable they will turn out to be.

I love to dress my table for my girlfriends and have a beautiful wood table that these allow to be shown instead of a table cloth. Not using a table cloth in the summer lightens up the table for a more springy look. Also these are vinyl so they are easy to wash but the design and quality make them look and feel like they are not vinyl. One draw back is that because of the woven design, they will not protect from spills but even a table cloth doesn't do that. So I really love them. Food may get stuck in the woven design but you just run them under the water and poof, they're clean.

I recently purchase these placemats since they look very similar to the Chilewich mats I currently have. The only difference is that the Chilewich are only squares instead of rectangles and the price of course. I paid about $16 for each Chilewich mat as opposed to $16 for a set of four with Benson Mills. I have only had the Benson Mills mat for about a month and I am already noticing a few strands coming out. All in all its great for daily use and for the price you can't beat it, but I will definitely put out my Chilewich mats when I have company over.

Nice natural colour which looks really nice on our dark coloured table, easy to clean - just give it a wipe. BUT...I do worry about the ends coming apart over time.
