Honeywell VR8345M-4302 Universal 24 Vac with Standard Opening, Intermittent/Direct Ignition Gas Valve

Ours failed after 34 years (!), I replaced it with this one, no problems. Before installing it I went through several features with Gemini or one of those AIs, it knew things to look for in counterfeits, and it appears to be a real Honeywell part. If you need to use the reducer bushings, you can clamp some vice grips on a pipe stub to act as a stop so you can tighten those up.

Replace my own gas valve for our Lennox furnace. This item was spot on for the job. It took quite a bit of research to make sure this one was compatable. This universal valve can do either natural gas or be converted to LP. It comes as a 3/4”, but has 1/2” reducers with it. It can be used with a pilot our use the supplied wiring harness for hot surface or spark ignition. I have attempted to included several images regarding the units full compatability, but it was rejected by Amazon. Know that if you need a gas valve this is a stellar replacement for DIY. Keys to successful install with this valve: make sure your line is 3/4” or 1/2”; use either natural gas or propane; have hot surface, spark or pilot ignition; system is 24v for solinoid control.

This valve was a lifesaver, it’s great that it comes with the adapters you need to reconfigure it to fit different size pipes. Because this could be used for furnaces with multiple ignition sources it does have some extra components built-in. There is a knob on top which makes this unit about an inch and a half taller than the one I replaced, this was sort of a problem because I had to turn this unit facing down inside my furnace in order to reattach the front cover to my furnace. The valve works great and the provided wiring harness allowed me to just plug in my existing two wire furnace valve harness with no modifications.

The only problem I came upon was with the height. However just a simple observation of just four small screws holding the main supply line in and with that part out I could then screw on and nearly tighten the valve and re-insert the entire configuration with the valve just clearing the exhaust fume vent fan and just enough room to turn the valve in the "ON" position after twisting it into a good verticle position. I connected the wires, turned on the gas, checked for leaks, powered it on, and fired it right up.
