J. Herbin 1670 Anniversary Inks - Gold Sheen 50 ml Bottled - Emerald of Chivor (Emerald Green-Blue Ink)

This ink has been on my list forever and I finally bought it. I am so glad I did. The color is gorgeous and it has a beautiful sheen to it even when I use it with finer nibs. My everyday nib is a 1.1 mm stub and the ink is perfect for that. It dries surprisingly quickly and does not clog up my fountain pens. Highly recommended!

I bought this ink to replace my (now empty) bottle of Montblanc Ink Bottle Permanent Blue 107756 | Document-Proof Refill Ink in Navy Blue for Fountain Pens, Quills, and Calligraphy Pens | 60ml Inkwell . I use this ink on a daily basis mostly for note taking (I would say light/moderate use)--writing on normal notebook paper, writing with a Kaweco ICE Sport fountain pen blue Pen Nib: F (fine) Kaweco ICE Sport fine tip pen. Performance: The ink performs well overall. Ink does bleed through quite a bit during normal writing (office paper, spiral notebook paper, etc), so there will be no writing on both sides of the paper with this ink. A lot of reviews warn of and recommend against using this ink in a fine-tip pen, but I've had no trouble so far with my Kaweco Sport in terms of ink flow. As a bonus, even though I don't see anything in the product description that says this is permanent ink, I put down some squiggly lines on a post-it note and ran it under some water, and observed minimal run-off from the ink. Also (surprisingly), the ink stood-up great being highlighted over with a highlighting pen (once the ink had a minute to dry). Color of the ink I think can be best described as a teal or a blue-green turquoise. The pamphlet that comes with the ink says the inspiration of this ink is a Chivor Emerald, which is famous for its blueish-green hue, and I think J. Herbin has done a fantastic job of capturing that color--even in my hum-drum everyday use of note-taking. The ink does sparkle (likely achieved from mica flecks, but that's just a guess), but is harder to notice in my application of a fine-nib pen. I took a Q-tip and swabbed an index card with the ink, and there is TONS of sparkle in that smear, so the sparkle is definitely there. Room for Improvement: 1) I do wish the ink would not bleed through paper so much. It's not unlivable, just wish I could write on both sides of a sheet of paper 2) The wax coated cap is a nice touch, but the cap itself is a thin metal cap (read: looks and feels CHEAP). The cheap cap just seems out of place against the nice glass bottle, and wax garnish. Five stars for great ink, at a decent price point (slightly cheaper per ml than the Mont Blanc Permanent blue as of this writing.

First things first, it is true what other reviews said, this has been reformulated, so there won't be much of a golden sheen to your red (at least there was none that I could see. But maybe it truly makes the ink safer for fountain pens, so I won't complain if I can safely use it in some expensive pen. Even though, a little sticker on the plastic wrap around the package warns you that this ink is very saturated and that oyou shouldn't leave it lying in a pen reservoir forever... (hence I'll wait a bit until I dare put this in my Diplomat MB 149). And saturated it is! The red is deep and strong, and yet it gives off a nice shading. The color is mesmerizing. It's the red of all reds! It's expensive, but it's not like I am going to write novels with this, or take minutes in business meetings. I may use it to annotate here and there, and do a few drawings and letters. So, even though it is pricey, I can see this mottle lasting me quite a few years. Last (and maybe least of all) the bottle is kind of cool. Antique-looking little cube. I was afraid the red waxy knob would have to be broken, or the string cut... but as it turns out, it's a rubberized coating on the cap, and the string does not attach to it, so no wax seal to break-off. The bottle will look cool even in a couple years. 3 MONTHS EDIT --- The gold sheen is indeed there, but you need to shake the bottle quite a bit before filling, and it only works if you have tremendous flow, and areas where the ink can pool and concentrate (using an italic or a flex nib for example). Also depends on the paper. Unsurprisingly, the sheen shows better with high quality paper...

I adore this ink. The entire line of J. Herbin 1670 anniversary ink is like no other, and absolutely worth every penny. It is rich, it is deep, it isn't too "wet," it dries quickly. I would not recommend this for use with a small nib pen, as it is on the thicker side, and the gold flakes will almost certainly clog the ink chamber and flow mechanism. If you do not regularly use your pen, this also is not the ink for you, as it will dry and be a pain to clean. that being said, if you're like me, and you use your fountain pen every day, with a medium to wide nib, you will love this ink. It's a rich, navy blue, with hints and tones of black and grey, and of course gold, when used on a nice quality paper, such as Tomoe River. On a standard run of the mill notebook or legal pad or what have you, the ink will look like a standard blue, and you won't really see the other tones or the gold. That's all well and good and it's a great ink to use even if just on standard paper, but it really shines when using it on paper that will bring out the deep and multi-faceted tones of the ink. The whole line is absolutely lovely, and while the ocean blue isn't my favorite (the Emerald of Chivor is hands down the best), it's a lovely color well worth having in your collection.

My opinion of this ink vacillated for quite a while, but I have come to the conclusion that it is actually one of my all-time favorites. First a few caveats: (1) this is a highly saturated ink, so it is not easy to clean once you fill a pen with it; (2) its presentation of sheen and shimmer vary drammatically depending on the paper you use, and (3) it is a *very* wet ink, so I would hesitate to recommend it to slow writers. All of that said, it has--surprisingly--become my daily driver. I always have my Pilot Metropolian <M> filled with it and use a Paperage notebook. The ink looks gorgeous on the page (a stunning blue-green with gold shimmer and red sheen), and its wetness enables me write quickly but neatly. Despite being a bit of a novelty ink (shimmering inks are not going to be office-worthy), I absolutely love it for notetaking, grading, doodling, and journaling. It flows beautifully out of my Metropolitan, and I keep a bottle at home and in my desk at work so that I never have to worry about my pen going dry. It is just that good.

Emerald of Chivor is an absolutely gorgeous ink that lays down beautifully. The color ranges from a greenish teal to dark emerald green and various shades in between. But it doesn't stop there, it also shows shades and hints of red and even black. There's also gold fleck in the mix and it's sparkle can appear as silvery, golden, or almost diamond like. So lighting and angle also play a part in the appearance of this ink. Overall the color of this ink can vary by whether or not you shake the bottle prior to filling your pen and also by how much you shake the bottle prior to filling your pen. It also varies by your choice of nib size and each pen which you choose to ink up with this beautiful ink will have a different color effect. Unfortunately the ink is not in the least bit waterproof and so a single drop of liquid can destroy your writing or artwork. But that also makes the ink easy to clean from your pen, it just takes a slight bit more effort to remove all of the gold fleck so I tend to use it with pens which have a removable nib and feed section. But those little quirks aside, this is my go to ink. I would say that I now use this for about 95 percent of my writing and only choose other inks just for some variation or when I have to fill out forms or anything requiring a signature. Emerald of Chivor is a FANTASTIC ink, I highly recommend it!

Looked amazing on the photo but once I actually refilled my pen (Lamy Vista) and started writing with it - it is AMAZING. The gold can be seen through the see-through barrel of the pen and it gives it a very nice look. On the page, you can see the gold sparkles but that's very subtle and based on the lighting and angle - which is exactly what I wanted (it has to be a subtle touch not a "fancy OMG wow check that out" type of thing). The ink flows incredibly on the paper and I must say so far it's the best I've used and compared to my last ink from Waterman, this makes a big difference. The dry time takes a few more seconds but much worth it. Couple notes: 1) Ensure you clean you pen real good before using this ink so you get the best results. 2) Don't keep ink in your pen's barrel for too long. i.e if you use the pen only every once in a while and it does not seals very well, don't use it or put only a little bit in it. 3) I noticed that you want to keep your pen up-side-down for the gold flakes to mix with the ink and go on the page. If you clip it to your shirt's pocket (which I often do) the flakes will stay at the bottom and you wont get any (this could be good if you want to chose with/without flakes :)). I have a see through Lamy (vista with broad nib) and I can see what the flakes do. - Enjoy and hope this helps.

I did not have the previously mentioned clogging issues in my fine point pilot metro. The ink dries much faster than expected based on comments inks in this series, and has just enough sparkle to be noticeable at the right angle but not so much as to appear gaudy. The bottle is a nice touch, with the wax top and embossed crest. I was concerned upon opening that my pen would not fit into the bottle but there was just enough clearance. If you have a 'fat' pen please be ready to dispense some of the ink into a separate container, as the entrance is quite narrow and long. The ink is a bit brighter than expected - on my napkin after wiping down my grip it appears like blood. I expected it to be a little bit darker but this will work just as well. Shake well before filling and before writing to get some gold flecks, otherwise they just congeal. Enjoy :)

Y eso que tengo varias tintas, varios colores. Es un azul turquesa magnifico, con un polvo de oro adentro que luce fenomenal. Hay que asegurarse de mezclar bien la tinta cada vez que se usa, para aprovechar del oro lo mas posible. Aun con el polvo de oro, no he tenido ningún problema con mi pluma. Lo recomiendo a fondo!
