Is the 27mm side right hand threaded or left hand threaded?

Both sides are left handed threads

will this work on a 98 wr400f?

honestly not sure. i used it on a gy6 honda clone motor. for seven bucks its worth the try. if it has internal thread were the nut would tighten on it might work. you could also try looking on the yamaha forums and see if you can find anything. hopefully this helped. hope the best for a felow gearhead.
