A spectacular book of color drawing of early fighter planes
This massive, expensive work by the team behind Spain's "Perfiles Aeronauticos" series is an impressive book of color drawings of an interesting selection of history's fighter planes. This book is part one of a series, and as such includes 22 aircraft from World War I and the Interwar period, ending in 1939. The chosen aircraft are not necessarily the best or most famous, but were apparently chosen because they came in a variety of color schemes. Some might argue with the inclusion of the Hanriot HD.1 instead of any of the Fokkers aside from the early Eindeckers, or the heavy emphasis on British fighters of the Interwar period, or the fact that the P-36 is the only American fighter included, but the line had to be drawn somewhere and any choices would have had supporters and detractors. The side views are only three to a page, and with the large page size the drawings are quite detailed. There are some top and bottom views, but probably not enough to satisfy modelers. The text (in Spanish and English) precedes the color views for each chapter, so you have to flip back and forth to read about the aircraft illustrated, but I can understand why that was done. The results are quite spectacular, and if you can handle the high price and heavy weight, this one is worth a look. I hope that the subsequent volumes appear in the near future and are done to the same standard.
