Great on some surfaces, doesn't work well on others. (with update)
I was shocked when I received this and turned off the lights and went looking for invisible puppy pee! I just replaced my carpet about 6 weeks ago (thinking that my puppies were completely potty trained. I recently noticed the odor of urine in my living room. I started watching my pups very carefully and twice caught the smallest one peeing in the house twice in one day. My new carpet is a slightly dark tan color. Unbeknownst to me, it has magical properties when it comes to hiding damp spots and urine stains. With no visible cues to go on, I decided to try a light to find and treat the offending area. The light works exceedingly well at showing uncleaned urine on the carpet. It also very brightly shows where pee settled and dried on the flat (level with the floor) edges of my decorative baseboards. The wall and vertical surfaces of the same baseboards illuminated slightly if I got down on the floor and looked carefully. I have natural oak floors sealed with a clear polyurethane in some of my home. It does not show pet urine AT ALL on my hardwoods. It DOES illuminate areas I did not know existed where my old Bissell spot cleaner had leaked on my floors and apparently soaked into the finish. It also makes laundry detergent glow on the wood as brightly as it does pee on carpet. After using various types of carpet cleaners on urine the cleaned spot will glow again (but more faintly with each cleaning) once it had dried. This is actually useful for me since I have tried a few different cleaners that did not effectively remove odor and have to keep going back again and again trying different brands. I finally got a few spots to stop smelling over the weekend, and with the final treatment I tried most of the florescence disappeared.Update 7 months after review:Still using the Peedar a few times a month. till works as described above, seems to need much more frequent battery replacement for the past few months.I have only had this product for about a week but have used it extensively and would absolutely recommend it to anyone in need of a light to find urine on carpet. For other surfaces, it's not very useful for finding pet urine accidents. Except the bathroom, if shone on your white toilet. If you have males in your house I would not recommend you step foot in your bathroom with this. You may have nightmares. The light is well constructed and doesn't feel too light or cheap in your hand. The large power button on the butt of the light is very easy to use and is covered with textured rubber. It has an attached wrist strap if you feel you might need such a thing. I found that the photos posted by the seller are an accurate depiction of how well this works on lightly colored carpet. I would buy it again. The less than twenty bucks I spent on this light has easily saved me a hundred dollars or more that would have spent on carpet cleaning solutions had I not been able to so accurately identify where the urine was.

The PeeDar Beats Other UV / Blacklights (That use 395nm+ wavelength). Pic is the Proof
The BeginningThe more I read up on Pet Urine and stains, the more interested in this I became. I had already gone through with a CyberTech Flashlight and a long Blacklight. Both of these used a 395nm-400nm wavelength and at the time I thought it was awesome! I started Googleing about UV and then I learned that the lower the frequency, the better results I would get.So, I kept on reading, learning about enzymes eating the urine and eradicating it, bought a few different Urine out! Type of formulas, and then I ran across the PeeDar Website. The wealth of information on there is exceptional! I learned more things from the website than I had learned in the past 2 weeks. The PeeDarSo, this led me to ordering a PeeDar. I was intrigued by the fact it has a lower UV wavelength in the flashlight. the 365nm-375nm was a lower frequency than I had in the other 2 lights ( Cybertech flashlight, 18 inch Blacklight from Walmart ). This is what I had read would be better than the ones I had!ShippingI received mine very quick! I ordered it on the 11th, and Amazon tracked the delivery and even shows it arrived on the 13th!February 13, 2015, 4:30 pm, Columbia MO US DeliveredFebruary 11, 2015, 5:10 pm, US Package has left seller facility and is in transit to carrierHow awesome is that??Comparing Different WavelengthsSo, after receiving it and playing around, I noticed stains showed up even brighter than the CyberTech flashlight ( the 395nm-400nm wavelengths most other UV / blacklight bulbs are made of (Because they are cheaper to produce in the 395-400nm wavelength ) used. I was so very impressed with the PeeDar light!More ResearchThis sent me on a journey, not only continuing what I have learned on pet stains, but adding in currency and UV security features, hotel and room inspections (scorpions and bodily fluids glow just as urine does - because when the fluids dry, they form crystals that has the protein in them that are fluorescence and reflective), and many other UV reactive items. After all the research, I have learned of over 50 things which are UV reactive that we use everyday and most do not know about it.ConclusionsI have even written articles on my tests and findings with florescence and the different wavelengths and why the PeeDar succeeds other UV Flashlights. ( http://www.ericawashere.com )In SummeryIf you want to detect pet urine stains at the brightest levels and less of the purple haze ( 365nm-375nm wavelength lights) which might make you miss some stains of other UV Flashlights and Blacklights (with 395nm-400nm wavelengths ) Then the PeeDar is "the" flashlight to get.At a ridiculously low price of under $20USD, you cannot beat it!The only thing that *might* beat it would be the PeeDar2 which has *just* been released. ( Look for my review on that soon! )PPS - and the 150 page Ebook that comes with the PeeDar and PeeDar purchases have so much valuable information in it that the books themselves are worth much more than the PeeDar flashlight sells for! )The Attached Photos Show1. I didn't find this worked very well at all. I even tested it on a spot my cat had just peed on, and it still didn't really show anything. I'm wondering if the lack light is just not powerful enough.

it sucks bad.

Possibly the most useless product I've ever bought
The reviews for this product were very variable, a lot of 5 star, but quite a lot of 1 star too saying it was hopeless. I decided to believe the positive reviews and gave it a go. However, the 1 star reviews were correct, it's useless. One of my cats has started spraying and I can't always find all the locations, am just aware of the whiff, so this product would have been invaluable - if it worked. I tried it through two entire rooms in the dark but found nothing even though I knew there were some 'indiscretions'. So I waited until I actually saw my cat spraying. I could see the damp patch, feel it with my hand, and smell it. The 'torch' showed absolutely zilch. It did however show up a lot of tiny specks of blue dust all over the place. Excellent if you want to track down tiny specks of dust. I've sent it back.

that scepticism was soon blown away when I tested the torch for the first time and everything that I was expecting to flouresce
I didn't purchase this device with its marketed intention in mind at all, but more as a quick testing device on flourescent and phosphorescent minerals, and also as a detector of repair and restoration adhesives and other compounds used in restoration, given that the specific long wave UV range of 365 - 370nm in the Peedar is far more effective for this these purposes than the countless cheaper or dubiously labelled 'more powerful' portable UV lights operating in the long wave 395 - 400nm range and seen for sale on Amazon and everywhere else.Have to say that at first I was a little sceptical as to just how effective the Peedar would be for the purposes that I had in mind for it, simply BECAUSE it was so cheap! One could normally expect 365 - 370nm devices in general being a lot more expensive. However, that scepticism was soon blown away when I tested the torch for the first time and everything that I was expecting to flouresce lit up like Blackpool Illuminations, and without having to shine the torch only inches away, too! This device therefore works, and VERY effectively. The Peedar is also nicely compact in design (it'll go in just about any pocket) but it's very sturdy and water-resistant, too.Given that my own uses for the torch aren't exactly performed in the fluffy comfort of the home, I wanted to really check this thing out and again I was initially sceptical as to how it would withstand the rigours of performance beyond merely looking for Fido's 'little accident', particularly as I noted that the torch is made in China! That's not a racist thing going on, just a hard fact of life nowadays that many Chinese products simply don't make the grade. Again though, I was more than pleasantly surprised to find that the Peedar will more than adequately stand up to 'destructive testing' to confirm its' general durability. I did three tests...First, I deliberately dropped it from a height of about 2m on to a concrete surface whilst it was switched on and ok, the black enamel scratched slightly but the torch itself didn't dent in any way and simply bounced, and all 9 UV LED bulbs just carried on lighting things up. Find me another cheaper UV device on the market that'll do that...I already wasted a few quid on eBay and both devices bought there failed miserably.Secondly, spending a good half-hour out in the garden late at night in the pouring rain with the Peedar proved its' water resistance. Yes ok, one wouldn't be doing that normally to look for pet pee, but one might do if mineral hunting out in the wilderness at night or hunting down the damn slugs on the cabbage patch if that's your thing! Both the front bulb unit on this torch and the back flick-button unit screw down tightly on to tight silicone O-rings strategically seated at the ends of the threads and at these points at least, it simply doesn't let water in. I didn't actually immerse either the front lens or the entire torch IN to water, but then it's not designed to be used underwater and its' water resistance in that respect would be likely affected by temperature anyway. Finally, I loaded new Duracells, turned on the torch and then left it turned on in a cold workshop. A little over 6 1/2 hours later the LED bulbs were only just beginning to noticeably dim - and that says a lot about not only the running economy of the device but also the quality of the fitted bulbs.Hence on the face of all this, time will tell if the Peedar behaves just as efficiently in the depths of winter out there ,or indeed if it'll have 'staying power' in terms of life-span, but so far after 2 weeks of fairly intense use both in and outdoors it's proved to be the best £20 that I've spent on a tool (or indeed any kind of battery-operated torch) for a long time. And yes it does work on Fido's 'accident', too - what fun one could have with it at the Glastonbury Festival!Just one note of caution: as stated on the packaging, the use of UVA/UVB protective glasses is strongly advised with this device, Many unscrupulous vendors will claim that long wave UV light, unlike short wave UV, does not harm the eyes. This isn't necessarily accurate as prolonged or repeated exposure to LW UV has been shown to be at least partly responsible for the formation of cataracts. Hence unless you're willing to risk your sight being damaged peering hard for that final little old drop of dried-up pee or whatever, adequate CLEAR glass or polycarbonate eye protection with a minimum standard to EN166 with range UV400 is a worthwhile and complimentary investment along with the Peedar to ensure safety - despite its size, this little torch shines a deceptively powerful beam of UV. For another tenner, you can find the perfect eye protectors on Amazon - simply search "NATO Spec. Forceflex 3000" or link here: NATO Spec. Forceflex 3000 ALMOST UNBREAKABLE Safety Spectacles. TRANSLUCENT GREY Frame with Clear HC Lens. UV400. Put these two products together (or either one) and be confident that it'll be one of the best Amazon orders you've made this year. not that good during the day but at night with the lights ...
I was quite impressed with this item. we knew we had a cat pee problem from the smell but when we treated it, it always seemed to come back after a few days. Did not really fancy going round the suspect areas sniffing the carpets!. So we took the plunge and bought one of these. not that good during the day but at night with the lights off it was easy to find places where our lovely cat had relieved herself!!.Treated it with Simple solution and the problem is now gone.
