Ahti knives are manufactured in Kauhava, Finland, which has a long and rich history of being known for knife making. The Ahti knives are made by Reino Kamppila and his son, who operate a fourth-generation family business of knife making. Theirs is a smaller shop, but they produce knives of excellent quality and workmanship. The knives and their leather sheathes are works of beauty, and are visually appealing as well as satisfyingly functional. As with most Scandinavian knives, the handles are made from curly birch, sanded and stained. The fittings on the knives are polished brass, and there are plastic inserts in the sheathes to protect both the sheath and the hand, as these knives are quite sharp and could easily slice through both if inserted incorrectly into the sheath. The belt loops aren't attached directly to the sheathes, but rather by a small metal ring, which lets the sheath dangle and swivel to make it easier to move and sit with the knife on your belt.The Jänkä ("Wetlands") has medium-sized blade and is suitable as an all-around utility knife or for light camp chores. A good blade for normal use.
This is a very good general purpose knife. Mine is stainless which saves a lot of worry about rust. Putting vegetable oil on the blade is still a useful idea because the oil is food safe. Oiled blades are slick when it comes to cutting.

Great puukko for the price.
I have experience with this puukko. I keep one in my vest when I fish. It is short enough that it fits in my vest easily. I haven't needed to use it that much but I think that it would be up to just about anything it could reasonably be expected to do. Great blade; short but pretty stout, came sharp and sharpens well. Keeps its edge well. The handle is well done; the handle fits my hand well (I wear a size large glove), No gaps where the guard fits to the blade. That is a big deal for me. I have pretty extensive experience with puukkos. I own several custom puukkos built by Master bladesmiths from Finland. I also own a lot puukkos that are less illustrious than the customs. Not everything and new ones are coming along all the time. In my experience, the Ahti JÄNKÄPUUKKO and its non-stainless cousin (Ahti KORPI, I think) are as close you can get to the custom puukkos in a less expensive knife. I have an Ahti Leuko as well. The build quality of the Leuko equals that of the Ahti JÄNKÄPUUKKO. No, I don't have any stake in Ahti, I just think it is a dandy puukko for the price. Glad to give a good review.
