Handmade Leather Travel Duffel Bag - Airplane Underseat Carry On Bags by Rustic Town

While I haven't used it to travel just yet - I just received it - I'm already very pleased with the size of the bag and the sturdiness of its construction. It is very roomy for its size. Depending on how and what you pack, for myself, this bag will easily carry enough items for a week long getaway. The best feature of the bag, for me, is the fact that the zipper goes the entire lengthy of the bag, so there is plenty of room to place items inside of the bag, instead of just a smaller opening with a zipper running just across the top of the bag. As I said, the bag is roomy, around 11" deep, coupled with the 9" or so wide bottom, there is plenty of room.The leather is of a heavy and sturdy quality. Despite what others have noted, there was no overwhelming smell or anything of significance when I opened this bag up. It had some but nothing major. If you have ever had a very nice, high quality leather bag, then you should expect some smell at first.In short, I'm very happy with this particular bag. It's just the length I need (20") and roomy and sturdy. With proper care, this bag can, and should, last a very long time.

Bought this bag for my brother for retirement. It arrived and was nicer than the reviews . The reviews were amazing but it was such a great surprise . Great quality and smelled so good .. real leather . He loved it . Great weekend bag. 5 stars for sure

I’m a bit torn with what to do with this one and am currently undecided on whether or not to return it. I’m very picky with bags — even more so with leather — and almost never purchase a bag I haven’t first held and inspected. I mulled over getting this bag for probably two years before I finally took the risk a couple days ago, and of course it arrived with assembly errors and lacked proper quality assurance.Over all, the bag does look nice, but I’ll have to work the leather to get out the large and obvious fold marks from the way it was shipped. It’s supposed to be “full grain leather” and is either very thin full grain or only top grain (some places, especially with the strap & luggage tag, are thin scraps and would barely qualify as either, in my opinion); my full grain leather belt is about twice as thick as the leather on this bag. However, the leather does smell wonderful and has no harsh chemical or musty odors.One of the reasons I was hesitant with this bag was the zippers, going from the bottom of one side all the way to the other rather than having solid leather all around with a wider zippered top. A positive is that it provides easier access for packing and unpacking, but a negative is that you have the large, rough zipper feel all around; aesthetically, I’d prefer less zipper and more leather. One major issue with the quality control is the amount of sticky, excess glue all over the edge of the leather where the zippers are attached. It appears they were first glued into place and then stitched on. That glue will take some time to clean up. There are also a couple stitching issues where the zipper and two pieces of leather meet: the two sides of the bag are inconsistent in how those pieces are attached (one side obviously being a mistake, but still holding it together), and it’s just a little annoyance to me knowing it’s off (more so because it’s white stitching).The outside pockets are small, but they are just large enough to get my whole hand flat inside each of the sides. The inside is spacious with some card, pen, and phone (charger, in my case) holders. There’s zippered compartment inside that I was hoping would be large enough to fit my iPad, but the zipper just gets in the way of it being able to fit.The handle is sturdy enough, but I’m a bit concerned about the stitching pulling away from the bag at the connection point. The securing flap on the handle has a slight issue with one of the two snaps, but I eventually got it to close and it got a little better with subsequent snaps. Another big quality control issue is that it appears someone else also had an issue with that snap because there are two large fingerprints (one on each side of the flap, each next to a part of the snap closer) in a dark, purple-like stain that is immediately obvious on both the leather and the stitching. It appears someone recognized the gaff and tried to scrape it off on one side, only to scratch off the top grain, and so likely just left the rest of it. So, I have purple stains right on the handle right at the top of the bag… There’s also a tiny purple spot elsewhere, but I can mostly ignore it. The other snap on the handle arrived scratched up and won’t buff out (another annoyance at the top of the bag), and one of the brass feet was loose but I was able to screw it tightly back into place.So, is it worth it? It could be if you receive the right one, but I’m certainly disappointed and even more cautious in purchasing leather goods I haven’t first inspected in person. Still, it’s incredibly hard to find a good full grain leather duffel at this price point, so maybe the poorer quality control and thinner leather should be expected.Rating: 3/5, but see the potential for 4/5 and will give it that.

Bought this for my son for his birthday. Nice subtle leather with just a faint smell that faded in the first week. Perfect for airline travel as a carry on, more sophisticated than a backpack. All the seams see well done and I did not find any lose threads or gaps. This compares well to the much more expensive bags and seems like it will last many years. Nice heavy-duty zipper and thick but comfortable leather.

The bag came all squashed up, and I thought it would be a while before it gained its shape. It didn't take more than 24 hours for it "shape up". All I did was pop it out and let it set. It is exactly what I needed. The size is just right for weekend trips! The leather is top quality. If you're looking for a leather overnighter, this is it!

I purchased this bag in late 2024. I Have tover 75 business trips (1-3 days) since purchase. It has help up beautifully and is getting softer with age. I don't use the internal pockets. The outside pockets are tight and best for small flat items.

I visit India and have been eyeing this for a few years and decided to buy it and my GOD, SO TOTALLY WORTH IT.I LOVE IT.Its the classiest duffle you will ever buy of all i have seen so far and i have seen some.....

This duffel bag is beautifully stitched with a strength and quality that should last a lifetime or more if the leather is properly maintained over the years. This duffel bag is also beautifully simplistic, a style I very much appreciate for any kind of travel. It’s perfect for weekend getaways to the cottage or business travel. It’s very smooth without excessive outer pockets and buckles that I don’t really care for in a leather duffel bag that I’m using for 4+ day stays. This duffel bag could definitely be used as a carry on for flights depending on regulations if it’s not over packed. I’ve already had compliments on this bag and I just recently received it. It’s the classic sturdy style that appealed to the people that really liked mine. This duffel bag didn’t require airing out or wiping down of any excess leather protection when I received it. There isn’t anything other than a leather scent to the duffel bag. I would definitely buy from the seller again and I already have.
