Is this tested on animals?

I checked and unfortunately they do test on animals.

This usually retails for almost $50, is this the actual authentic product?

If it isn't authentic, it sure does the job as effectively, efficiently and gently as the real deal. The packaging looks legitimate as well. In other words, besides the price (which is a reservation I also had) there is nothing that would lead me to question its authenticity. Hope this helps.

I can't say that I've tried every product in this category. I can say that this is the best one I've used. It's the most gentle and effective exfoliating gel on the market in my opinion.

does this help with hyper-pigmentation and dark spots ?

While this is not something I deal with, my guess is no. It's great for "resurfacing" or removing the dead skin cells, but i'm not sure it would address that issue
