The direction switch on the side of the unit was broken, clearly never assembled correctly. All this happened in the lockdown period so getting another fan would take forever. Luckily I managed to make the switch contacts and assemble it correctly. Now it all works. The fan is silent and apart from.the bleeping remote unit we are happy with it so far. My concern is that other items have been assembled poorly as well and will fail prematurely. I invite the supplier to offer us some compensation for our troubles and /or extend the warranty period.
