Helped to cycle tank the way Nature meant it…!

This got me from ammonia to nitrite in 3 days. Used 2 bottles in a 75 gallon and about 15 gallons of sump water. Will update on how long it takes to finish the cycle. Update Ammonia is gone within 12 hours but so far isn't doing anything about the nitrite. Still off the charts. I took away one star. Will update again. Update- Total of 18 days to cycle. I started to get impatient with the off the chart nitrites so I threw in a bottle of instant oceans bio spira and in 2 days nitrites where zero. Overall I think this was a very quick cycle. The one thing that I am wondering is what would have happpened if I used both Dr Tim's and Instant ocean from the beginning? Hmm. Anyone out there about to start new cycle, try both at the beginning and let us know.

Dr Tims is the best for starting new tanks

I used this with the Dr tims ammonia to cycle my tank, it cycled in about a week. I had dry rock in my tank with live sand and it cycled very quickly, i have also been using it when i add new fish to the tank as a precaution and have not had anything but 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites and very low nitrates while using this. I know you can use this and add a fish or two immediately in bigger tanks (>75 gallons) and you can probably do it with one fish in smaller tanks but after researching a lot, i used the ammonia in my nuvo 38 just to be safe, after i cycled the tank i added 3 tiny Blue/Green Chromis with another half bottle just to be safe and saw NO change in my water parameters. The stuff works! My degree is in Biology specifically micro biology and I went to a school that has a big fish health biology program so a lot of my classes were related to fish, after researching Dr Tims and reading his actual peer reviewed research on the website and based on my own experience with it, I would HIGHLY recommend this if you are using dry rock when starting a tank. Also, i have yet to have a diatom bloom in this tank, which is a huge bonus. I had read from other reviewers that they didn't have the bloom and i didn't believe it. The biggest thing though is read the directions and follow them!

Is all it took to cycle my 30 gallon tank. Used api saltwater kit for measurement

I don't think it works as well as claimed, however it certainly does offer a noticeable boost to the cycle. I cycled a 38 gallon marine aquarium with this product. The tank has an oversized canister with Matrix in it and lots of live rock and sand. Put it in the tank in Tuesday and did the fishless cycle instructions with their ammonia. The following Friday (11 days) I was leaving for vacation and ammonia readings were still high after not adding any for several days. Added a small bottle of Fluval bacteria (a little variety can't hurt right?) and left for vacation. Arrived back the next Saturday, so just short of three weeks, to perfect 0 ammonia and nitrite levels and expected nitrates. Did a water change and added two clowns, away we go. To me, the double hit of bacteria made a speedy less than 3 week cycle, so the investment is worth it. I think the old way I have done usually takes at least 4 and sometimes up to 6 weeks, so I would use this product again. Just not sure I would go with it to cycle with fish, just my preference though.

Cycled tank faster

I was trying to get a new marine tank to cycle. Nothing I did got the ammonia and nitrites moving. Added Dr. Tim’s and it was cycled and fish ready in 5 days.

This review is mainly for the product as the wrong item was delivered but was dealt with well by the supplier. I have used this before to kick start new tanks both reef and freshwater and it works as stated. This is no snake oil and anyone who says it doesnt work is doing something wrong. Read the instructions and it works every time.

I used this in an already established tank that was suffering a hair algae out break worked very well

I think there are too many variables in the storage and shipping process for this product to consistently work. Seems some have no issues with this product and others like myself find that it did not do anything, certainly didn't speed the process up, and I would never add life to the aquarium relying on this product to do the job they claim it does. I was doing a fish-less cycle, followed the directions exactly as the manufacturer states on their website, and never saw any indication this product was working. On the Dr Tim's website they state one and only will last 6 months at room temperature's 65 to 85°F and 1 year at cooler temps 50F, however the expiry date on the bottle I received is 8 months from now, and certainly doubt Amazon is keeping this product at 50F, so seems to be you may end up with nothing but overpriced water and bacteria if you receive an older batch, and of course we have no idea what temps the product has been exposed to in shipping, it wasn't below freezing at the destination, but who knows in route as it took 4 days to arrive, so maybe it was frozen in shipping? If there was a store who sold it locally and I could get a new batch, I would give it a go again, but with shipping there simply seems to be too many variables that can end up killing the bacteria and thus the product not working. I ended up just getting some established live rock rubble from another hobbyist with an established tank, this all around method seems to be the best way to seed a tank.
