Hi, is this really waterproof or just splash proof ?

It's IP64 (splash proof). The USB and cigarette are not water proof. So please use it indoor.

can the volt meter handle more volage or is it limited to 12v? my system is 12v, the battery is 48v - that's what's important to keep tabs on

This volt meter is limited to 12V. It doesnot work for 48v battery. So it need to change the volt meter.

Title says 3-gang and description says 5-gang. Which is it?

It is 5 gang same as in the description and the picture. We are sorry for the mistatke on the Title.
