Is a TRUE work out - don't give up!
I suffered a serious injury to the index finger on my right hand (and I am right-handed). I was looking for something to help strengthen it without being boring, repetitive and something that would actually be useful when I stumbled across the Dynaflex pro. I wasn't quite sure what it was, but I gave it a shot anyway. When it arrived, at first I was very confused as to what to do with it. I understood the concept of a gyroscope but not how it worked within this ball. The directions weren't that helpful so I searched online for a video hoping maybe someone could SHOW me how to use it. That wasn't much more helpful, but I'm a determined person and kept trying to figure it out. I couldn't understand WHAT it was supposed to be doing. I could see there was a heavy, magnet-feeling weight to it and something that rattled inside (think of a heavy cement marble inside of a slightly larger plastic ball and what it would feel like if you were trying to get it to spin around using centrifugal force). Everything I tried frustrated me because I could NOT get it started. It comes with a red string, that sort of looks like a shoe string and the directions did say if you can't get it "started" (still not sure what that meant at the time), you could insert the string in the hole located on the yellow part (see the photo), wrap it around and give it a pull - similar to those toy cars where you insert the long, plastic strip and give it a yank it get it started zipping across the floor. So, I followed the directions, pulled the string and felt a weight against my hand. I got a good grip on the ball in the palm of my hand and sort of flippled my hand palm up/palm down, working against the weight to make it spin. What happens is, the weight (inside of the yellow part) begins spinning (sort of like I described with the marble I assume) and goes faster and faster, requiring you to have a stronger and stronger grip on the ball. You can feel the muscles all the way up your arm into your shoulder beginning to work, the faster it spins, the more difficult it is to hold! I then tried transferring it to my left hand and realized it had to make it spin the other direction. In the end, it was the perfect thing to strengthen my finger (I had accidentally sliced my tendons & arteries, nearly severing my finger) to the point where I can type this review, hold a pencil and my surgeon was amazed at my quick progress. It's also a great way to work your biceps and triceps and strengthen your wrists. It's about the size of a tennis ball, maybe a bit smaller. Maybe I'll find some time to make a video review to help anyone who needs that little extra "something" to get it started. This is a great toy, portable exerciser or perfect for OT/PT and recovery from injury as well.

Fun excercise
Im currently deployed to Afghanistan and dont get the chance to go to the gym as often as Id like. One of my friends back stateside had the metal dynaflex and I thought it was cool but couldnt see spending the money on it. Since I get bored in my little off time, I figured Id finally man up and buy a dynaflex. I opted for the cheaper version and figured it wouldn't be a total loss if I couldnt get it working. Its taken me a little bit of time, but after watching some pointer videos on youtube, I can do get the dynaflex going. Its not as easy as it sounds or looks and the string in my opinion makes it harder. The thumb flick trick works well. Overall I see how the dynaflex can definitely help with wrist exercises. I recommend this to anyone who types a lot or just has sore wrists. Your hands get tired pretty quickly once you get it going. Thanks Amazon and Dynaflex. Shipping said it was going to take a month and a half to reach Afghanistan...it took 5 days. Needless to say I was really excited when it got here after being told it would take forever. Buy it but dont give up on learning to use it.

It really works!
I was just getting into indoor rock-climbing when my instructor recommended this gadget to strengthen my wrist and grip, and he was right! PROS: 1. It does what it says! As long as you can get the gyroscope 'going', then you can feel the torque and the resistance... the faster you can move it, the more resistance you feel and more effective the workout! I heard it is great for those who are recovering from hand and wrist injuries (but since I have never had either, I cannot comment on this). 2. It's small and portable. You can definately carry it anywhere 3. You can make your own exercises. Once the gyroscope motor is activated, you can treat it like a dumbbell; you can do almost any type of forearm and wrist exercise with it AND can switch between both your hands and reverse the direction of the gyroscope for a more intense workout CONS: 1. May be difficult to start! To get this gadget to work, you can either use your hand to get the inner-core going, or the shoe-string rope that comes with the Gyro (thing of it like an old fashion top). It took me DAYS to figure it out (and many Youtube videos), but once you got it, you won't forget it. 2. It's noisy. Don't try this at work! It's best to either do in the comfort of your home or at some place that is already noisy. I guess that is it. Hope this helps!

Have you ever felt stupid after buying something? (this is that something)
I use product reviews to help me not buy useless products. This time I should have just used my head. The gyros provides adequate resistance after spinning it up but only for at most a 2-3 reps after which it slows down very quickly. Since almost all your attention is focused on maintaining speed/resistance very little excersizng gets done and most of the time you're simply shaking the gyro trying to get back up to speed for a few more reps. My father who said he wanted one tried mine, handed it back to me after trying several different methods and said he was glad I bought it and not him. If you would like to avoid statements like that or feeling buyers remorse and wondering how you can return this product at a minimal cost to you then avoid this product.

This thing is pretty hard to start up with my palm or on a table top even after watching the training video with "Sexy Ned Flanders". I always use the cord to spin the Powerball up, but be careful so that the cord doesn't get caught inside the unit. It can be tricky to get back out again.

This is a great product, I used my friend's all the time and loved it. BUT, when I bought if from amazon it came broken. The inner ball was not connected properly and I could hear moving parts broken off inside. I guess it broke off when during the shipping? The CD was also cracked. I didn't think much of it because I've never got a bad product from amazon before so this was a first time. I asked for a replacement and it came in the very next day. HOWEVER, this one had the exact same issues!!! Same problem with the ball and same CD cracked. I compared with my friend's and his is still working fine (he did not get it from amazon). So I do not know why I got 2 broken products, but I am going to return them both and look for the product elsewhere. Honestly, this is my first bad experience from amazon, hopefully doesn't happen again.
