WD AV-25 1 TB AV Hard Drive: 2.5 Inch, 5400 RPM, SATA II, 16 MB Cache - WD10JUCT

I bought this hard drive to repair a TiVo Edge DVR that had a 2 TB hard drive that failed. For about $33 I was able to restore a TiVo Edge DVR that normally sells (with Life Time Service) for over $900. Recently TiVo has ben offering a limited time deal for a TiVo Edge with Life Time Service for around $300 so for even that price the $33 cost of this WD 1 TB hard drive is a bargain. As stated the original TiVo Seagate hard drive was 2 TB which provided 300 hours of HD recordings while this WD 1 TB hard drive will only provide about 150 hours of HD recordings - and I can live with that. Fortunately, the TiVo Edge formats the new hard drive automatically so other than the mechanical aspects of installing the new hard drive was a breeze.

Excellent drive replacement for a Tivo Bolt DVR.

This disk drive replaced a failing unit in an NVR security camera system.In reading the reviews I was concerned that a drive marked as being manufactured in 2017 would still be viable but after swapping this in my system started working as normal.Not sure how long this drive will last but the original one went 8 years plus so even if I get half that it will be a plus.

This hard drive died in 2 years. Western Digital will not honor the 3-year warranty which appears in the product descriptions. These drives are OEM drives. Mine was 3-years old when I received it. I think it was a new OEM drive but you must know what you are buying.Please check out sellers' ratings on Amazon before purchasing.I would not recommend buying this drive from any seller that misrepresents their products as carrying a manufacturer warranty when in fact it does not. Amazon should crack down on sellers making such claims.Amazon refused to publish my detailed review that was honest, and fact-based. Reviewing the "bad side" of buying from Amazon and third-party vendors is against their community guidelines. Amazon did stand behind my purchase problems with this hard drive but Amazon needs to go beyond making one customer happy and instead provide a trusted marketplace for all customers.

Finding a replacement hard drive for a Tivo Bolt Vox is not the easiest task in the world - many will work, few will last. A surveillance device type drive, such as this, is what is necessary to get longevity. Staying at 1TB or less isn't absolutely mandatory but is what the Tivo Bolt was originally designed to handle. Getting a 1TB drive direct from TIVO (or their reseller) is six times the cost of this! Of course long term reliability can only be determined over the long term (duh) so I may end up changing this review in six months if it fails. I fully expect to get 5 years out of this drive in this application - how confident? I ordered a second one to put away for installation in 5+ years because I'm sure they will be out of production by then.

We were met with an abrupt ending to the life of our Tivo Bolt's hard drive. A useful device rendered useless with no warning. As frustrating as that was, buying a new hard drive was a no-brainer compared to either paying Tivo for the repair or scrapping the unit and buying a whole new one. Opening the Bolt was easy as was swapping out the old drive.Please be aware, once you remove the old unit, you cannot reinsert it later to try and retrieve the content. Do any attempted "fixes" of the old one and exhaust your attempts before throwing in the towel and installing this new one. Rest assured, once you install this new one, Tivo will handle the rest! It's a breeze. The software is automatically installed and you will be back up and running with the added bonus of more storage space.(As for life expectancy, only time will tell. I will update when it reaches it's end, which hopefully will be many, many years down the road.)

Being the suspicious type, I suspect that these sites are used for “dumping.” However, this drive seems as good as any that I have bought elsewhere & I have bought several.
