The story I heard was told by the author, a ranger who worked the overnight shift high in the wilds of the Otay mountains in the pitch black of night, searching out illegal immigrants being shepherded by "coyotes," coming through the Otay Mountains, including a very rough "coyote" who knew the area quite well and would trick rangers into running off a cliff if they were new and didn't really know the area well. This new ranger fell to his "death," but he didn't leave Earth, not until HE came back and got his guy... that's not all.. there are stories of haunted ruined homesteads that had been attacked by Indians, with sightings of orbs floating in the area around the ruins, Sasquatches seen climbing the hills and visualized on night vision cameras and a little "girl" seen floating along the trails and roads as well floating face-down in local streams, then appearing "alive," right next to you, standing right by your vehicle... wild and weird for sure! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ As A Fellow Agent Who Worked The Same Areas Almost At The Same Times... *by G***O on Reviewed in the United States on March 12, 2021* I just have to share how much fun I’m having reading Rocky Elmore’s “Out on Foot”!While known for his spine-tingling ghost encounters in places no one in their right minds would work at night, especially in the pitch darkness of Marron Valley, the best part of the book is the way he relays the work and traffic experiences.From the academy, to the training unit to becoming a seasoned senior agent, he triggers so many memories, sights, sounds and smells that jump off the pages and drag you right back into the unit and out to the field!Working at the El Cajon Station most of my career, I have driven all the same roads, opened all the same gates, hiked all the same canyons and ravines and worked the same traffic in all the areas this book talks about. It brought back a flood of memories.While I haven’t had any personal encounters with the supernatural or paranormal (to my knowledge!) I can tell you I have seen lights in the sky and in the brush I can’t explain, heard the most bone-chilling sounds in the darkness while hours into the wilderness and away from any other human being, and many other situations I simply cannot explain while patrolling the southern border.What a great read and thrill ride this is. I highly recommend it! (And yes, I have also been stalked by a mountain lion a couple of times according to scope operators in the same exact areas Rocky talks about!)Thanks Rocky, for the guided tour of Border Patrol Operations along the Southern Border and all the sights, sounds and smells, and the details and nuances that go with it! Honor First!Buy the book, turn off the lights, grab a beer, and wait for whatever is stalking you to come get ya! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great Recounting of Paranormal Stories from the U.S. Border *by A***S on Reviewed in the United States on May 2, 2022* Rocky Elmore has a great, engaging way of telling the tales of his time with the Border Patrol, and of really putting you right in the middle of the Otay Mountains in the dark. It seems a place where few should go, dangerous and far away from any help, a d yet so many risk their lives in the desert every night.I respect Elmore's work while in the Border Patrol, without sharing some of the ideological beliefs he presents in this book. I didn't like the recurring terms "illegals" and "illegal aliens" when referring to migrants, but Elmore's compassion for the women, children and other desperate people crossing the border still makes itself known.All in all, he knows how to tell some spooky and outrageous stories, and kept me engaged throughout the book.
