How do you tell a hungry toddler they can't have anything to eat? How do you do tell them when they don't speak or understand the your language? I don't think of my fogs as human, but I consider our communication as toddler and adult. That's where this kibble comes into the picture. I have 3 very intelligent, cooperative, very busy, active, herding breed dogs. They receive 2 meals a day and various value treats throughout the day. Their weight needs to remain stable and safe so it doesn't hurt them in their activities. They compete in and train in agility, scent detection, obedience, rally, FastCat, rat hunting activities and etc. Ages are 7-10 years. Part of their diet is Nutro healthy weight at 231 calories/cup. It allows them to eat, and yes, they ask to eat, it works well in treat dispensing toys, and is a great addition to their lifestyle of ever learning. When they learn to climb the 9ft A-frame, or jump 20" for agility, the kitchen counter is nothing. Scent detection in public places makes a garbage can an easy find in a home. The positive training techniques have made them an incredible team, and supplementing their diet with a low cal, balanced nutrition kibble has kept the toddlers happy without becoming overweight. I realize my approach to dog training may not be mainstream since they receive treats throughout the day to reward good behavior I want repeated. I am also confident this balanced kibble diet can be used for weight loss along with mental and physical exercise. They need crunch and volume without the impact of additional calories. So it's necessary to have forage type calories. That isn't a complaint, it's a gift to the dog that doesn't understand why it must go hungry to lower calorie intake. This product helps them not to be as hungry.

I had a hard time finding a LOW fat to protein ratio, and Nutro Natural Choice Adult Healthy Weight was one of the lowest fat to protein percentages I found. Yet is has a very HIGH protein level and I have noticed that my dog is less desperate for food and calmer than with other kibble I have tried for him. He must think it tastes good as he eats it with gusto, dry or moist. Finally, his digestion appears to be normal. All in all, I am very pleased with this Nutro diet for seniors. Time will tell if he loses weight. But even if he doesn’t, I believe all the vitamins, minerals and supplements make it a very good nourishing food for my dog.

We’ve been feeding our dog Nutro Natural Choice Adult Healthy Weight for years, switching between the Chicken & Brown Rice and the Lamb varieties. Our vet originally recommended it to help manage her weight, and it has worked very well as long as we follow the feeding guidelines. She maintains a healthy weight and energy level, and—most importantly—she actually likes eating it. No coaxing needed. The ingredients list is solid, and we’ve never had issues with digestion or pickiness when transitioning between the flavors. It’s been one of the most reliable foods we’ve tried. My one gripe is the price. It’s definitely on the expensive side. Also, every once in a while, the 30 lb. bag isn’t available for quick delivery, which is stressful when we’re running low. Overall, though, the quality has kept us coming back. If you’re looking for a healthy-weight formula that actually delivers results and your dog has a sensitive palate, this is a great choice.

I rescued a senior JRT/heeler mix who was about six pounds overweight per vet. After just three months on this food, she was down from 36 lbs to 33! She was unable to jump on the couch or into the car. Now she does this with relative ease. I will continue to keep her on this food as she seems to love it. I’ve increased her portion size slightly as she’s closing in on her ideal weight. Also, after getting some teeth removed, I’ve been softening the food with a little warm water. She loves it all the more!

I had tried a few different “diet” types of food. Our English Lab always feels I starve her. The last one made her gain weight. Course it could be maybe the treats I give her? (Sheepish smiles) bad mommy! We also have a very sneaky Daschund. He will push her away from her food and eat it all! But we love him. Although, not good at all for his waist line. Nutro dry food is the best!!! Truly! Now prepare yourself for some bad gas for about a week. This only happened with the Lab, the little guy had no issues. It is during the switch. Don’t give up! I ended the switch in a week and she was pretty much gas free from then on. Her coat is better, eyes clearer, and she’s starting to lose some belly weight YAY!! First time it’s really worked!!

My pugs have always liked Nutro. Now at 12 years old, one was diagnosed with diabetes and he is also very prone to pancreatitis. He has to be on a low fat diet for life. He primarily eats a prescription canned food, however he would not touch the prescription dry food and he likes to eat dry sometimes. The other Nutro formula I used previously had too high of a fat content for him to safely eat, so I switched to this formula. Please consult with your vet before making a switch. I am simply sharing my positive experience but it may not be right for everyone. For reference, the Rx dry food has 5% min/9% max fat content. This Nutro food is 7% min/10% max. Both of my senior pugs and even my young akita all love this food. I feel better knowing that my boy won't get a pancreatitis flare up if he decides to eat some kibble.
