Due to their richness and opaqueness, Gansai are semi-transparent and can be used as a gouache unless mixed heavily with water. Review: Japanese Watercolor - Kuretake Gansi Tambi watercolor palettes come in a variety of beautiful colors. The pans are quite large and hold a lot of paint. The palettes are held in cardboard boxes and are OK but I wish Kurtake would sell metal palette boxes that would fit the pans. I’d be fine buying them separately. The paint is different than standard professional watercolors but it is very good quality. It is highly granulating and when applied to wet paper moves beautifully and is fun to use. The paint dries nicely too and maintains its color. I’m glad that I added Kurtake to my collection of watercolor paints. Review: 48 color set new 2019 improved box, nice additions, happy! - I used up my old 36 color set from years ago and when I saw that a new 48 color set was out, I happily bought these paints again. They are vibrant, reactivate instantly with a wet brush, react to the salt texture trick and are downright cheap compared to this quantity of paint in most other brands. I noticed that the 2019 box now comes with 2 paintable color charts (loose and attached to the box lid) and that if you remove a tray there is a laminated chart inside the box under the trays so you can find the color's original spot if you took one out. They are labeled both on the pan and the charts with a number code for replacement ordering, with several places online offering individual colors if you run out. The 12 new colors added were lovely, and while I do not normally like convenience colors mixed with white, the cherry blossom pink and light purple lavender are gorgeous for florals. The skin tone beige and peach colors could be really useful, and there are finally deep lovely brown reds like a perylene maroon and indian red. I could not be more pleased with my purchase for the price, I was so excited about this set I immediately made a full YouTube video review for it swatching out all the colors. The only thing this set is missing, are toxic colors like cobalt turquoise, or granulating colors like you might find in western style watercolors.
