Can I make painting canvis out of this?

You certainly can, but this is a fairly lightweight fabric compared to others I've used. Had to use more gesso, spritz it with warm water a few times, and really work to get a tight stretch. It'll do the trick, but if you want less "give" in your surface, stretching it will be tougher. I suggest 10 oz or heavier for painting, especially for larger frames, but this will work.
