All's Well That Ends Well In Plain and Simple English: A Modern Translation and the Original Version Paperback – June 20, 2012

I can say that this format works well --- with the "simple" English right next to the original; although set in gray, it's not easy to read. My main objection is that the work is careless -- poor homework has been done. One example: in I,3 Lavatch is singing a song about the Trojan War. "Done fond, fond done" is the line. Very, very often "fond" means "stupid" in the Bard's vocabulary. Here it certainly means that Paris did a stupid thing in abducting Helen to Troy. But Bookcaps renders it "Done for love," -- a possibility, except for the fact that Hecuba then refers to Paris as a bad apple among her ten sons. At least Bookcaps shouldn't leave out the "stupid" part -- even if the Bard is saying both things: that, done for love, it still was stupid!

Shakespeare comes alive.

Is it possible that anybody would buy this book instead of the one Shakespeare wrote himself? It isn't that hard: he writes in our Modern English. It just takes a little effort up front in the reading, but it's well worth it. Especially this play, which is so strange and lovely and full of magic. Don't waste your money, or your time, with stuff like this.I love that the editorial blurb here says what that William Shakespeare is one of the greatest writers in the English language, as it hawks a product that slices up that very language.

Excellent condition

I am going to see a production of this play fairly soon and I want to prepare by rading it first. Usually I get the No Fear edition which provide the original text on the left hand page and a modern day translation on the right. Unfortunately, this No Fear edition does not exist yet for this play.I do prefer the format of the sparks No Fear edition – it is the size of a pocket book. This edition is much bigger and that m,akes it bit more inconvenient to read. So that is a bit of a drawback. Moreover, the No Fear edtion costsonly half of what I had to pay here.So if there is no No Fear edition you will have to compromise and get this – I just hope No fear publishes soon their tion of this play.The No Fear edtions set a high standard for providing both the original text and a modern day translation into English of a Shakespeare play – that is why I am inclined to give only three stars – for double the price and an awkward size of the book.

Good book to read in preparation for going to see the play in the original language. Easy to read, practical.
