The wood used for both the mallet head and handles is not very dense (i.e. not very strong - reminds me of balsa wood). As a consequence, you have to swing pretty hard to move the ball any distance as there is no weight to the mallet heads. I was afraid of breaking the stick handle. I'm guessing it won't hold up to a crew of 8-15 year old children very long. The set needs a bit of TLC handling.
