William’s Stove Polish by RUTLAND has been used to bring a low-luster, dark gray finish to any unpainted cast iron appliance for over 80 years. Easy to apply. Buff after drying. It can also be used on wood and coal stoves, barbecues, hibachis, iron pots, iron kettles, and grills. Not for use on painted, sand-blasted, stainless, or raw steel surfaces.

Make your old stove look new
I bought a tube when I bought our Vermont Castings Defiant off Craigslist. Stove had a lot of surface rust, make sure you do a lot of steel wool to get it cleaned up. These photos are before and after after two years of use, this is the 2nd time I've bought the product. Works well on chimney pipe too. Let it sit an hour or so and burn a low fire after applying. There's a bit of smoke that comes off but keep the initial fire low and smoke us minimal. Wear gloves when applying!

What a wonderful product!!!
Absolutely loved the results. I have a 43 year old wood burner with the typical signs of age...rust, corrosion, dull finish, etc... With a bit of elbow grease and this stove polish my wood burner looks like it just came off the showroom floor. Absolutely gorgeous! I am estatic with the results and the best part is, unlike other polishes, this one cures after about 10 minutes and doesn't leave any black residue. I will definitely be purchasing this again.

Looks brand new now
Brought my 1982 Vermont Castings Bigilant back to looking like day one brand new. Very messy black paste might want to wear rubber gloves when you apply. Stove will smoke and stink a little with the first fire so be ready to open windows. Worth every penny and time it took. My stove was starting to look ashy and very dull before applying this paste

Love this odorless, nontoxic polish!
My grandparents used fifty years ago. Since it's still around, with much the same packaging, I figured it must be a pretty good product. I couldn't find the exact chemical recipe used anywhere, but it seems much more nontoxic -- and definitely has less odor -- than other products I've tried. This remains my favorite. I oil our cast iron stove at least twice a year using this polish. I'm attaching a picture of the first application of the polish to a Vermont Castings stove that we bought used. You can see what a difference it makes! I will say, after reading other reviews, that I think most people are using WAY too much polish. It works best if you apply it like boot polish or furniture wax. Put a pea-sized amount on a rag, and then work it in to a large area by rubbing small circles. Your rag should come away almost clean before you add more polish. Then, after a few minutes, buff it until your rag does come away actually clean.

Works as Advertised
I tried Rutland William's Stove Polish Paste after reading all the reviews and it works as advertised. My Stove did not need much to make it look like new again, it still had a smooth surface, was not rusted or damaged. It was just dull looking after years of using it and Icleaned it with a damp cloth before using the Stove polish.Application was easy and only needed a bit more polish on some spots to even out the finish without any noticeable odor at all.I let it dry for 10 minutes and buffed it with a clean dry cloth and it brought back the shiny black finish.2 days later I ran my hand across the surface and some very light black was on my fingers that washed off easily with soap and water. After firing up the stove and it was hot there was a faint Wax smell like a candle burning, but went away within 10-20 minutes. The only thing I would suggest is if you have a stove that's in rough shape is to buy more than one tube.Other than that I would recommend this product.

Great stuff - looked like new in just a few minutes
Some genius in our house, who wouldn't fess up, left potted plants on top of our Vermont Castings wood stove in a room that is little used until winter. In other words, Mom didn't catch on before we had a rusted mess, because this genius compounded the problem by continuing to water said plants. Nearly coal in stocking material.Enter William's stove polish. What a life saver! It comes in a tube about the size of a family sized toothpaste tube. Following directions, stove must be cold (duuuh - but I guess you never know if someone with an IQ the same as their shoe size will give it a go). You remove as much rust/dirt as you can with a wire brush and/or steel wool (I used both). Get rid of the grunge particles (I used a shop vac) and then wipe down with a soft cloth to be sure the surface is clean.Put on rubber gloves. IMPORTANT! Shake the tube! Otherwise it will piddle out watery stuff at first squeeze. With a good shake, out will come a smooth black paste. Directions say squeeze onto cloth. Did that, then resorted to squeezing onto flat top, which had the worst rust. Went back to squeezing onto the cloth for all other parts. Smooth the paste onto all surfaces, including legs, and door frame, until everything looks nice and black, and you've gotten into all the crevices. If you get it onto the door glass, it cleans right off with a paper towel. Do it before you light the fire. After letting it dry a few minutes, buff the surfaces, best you can, "to a soft luster" with another cloth "until it comes clean". My cloth never got totally clean, but it was just fine. I still have about half a tube left, so I'll give it another go sometime soon, now that I've made a big improvement. This review makes it sound like it was a big long deal. It wasn't. I did it in about 15 minutes between phone calls for our business. The difference was immediate, and striking. Some stove polishes were cheaper. So glad I chose this one. Worth every penny, and it was easy peasy lemon squeezy!

Miracle Worker
This stuff is awesome! We've got an old 27000 Buck stove and it needed some serious love. Bought new glass, gaskets, door handles, glass cleaner/conditioner, and this stove polish. Wow! What a difference. Practically looks like new and it really spruced up the cabin. We'll see how long it lasts and I'll update when I have to reapply. So far so good though, and I've been burning non-stop in the week since I used it.
