Works great with my own headphones.
I bought this Sennheiser SET840s system hoping that it could do at least one of two things well: (1) enable me to hear spoken words on television through my own headphones clearly and at a much lower TV speaker volume than I have been using; and/or (2) transmit clear spoken words directly to the tele-coils in my Bernafon Veras 9CP hearing aids. The jury is still out on number 2, above, because I will have to have my hearing aids set up differently by my audiologist for them to work with the Sennheiser system. But number 1, above, is such a rousing success that I can already rate this product with five stars even if it turns out they can't work directly with my hearing aids at all.The manual is well written and set up was easy. Even used with just a five-dollar pair of Panasonic headphones, the Sennheiser system worked great: clear, clean audio with no static and no dropouts--none at all. Just clear sound with plenty of volume to spare, even with our TV set to half of the volume that we've been used to using, or no speaker volume at all. I no longer have any difficulty understanding all the words spoken in movies, even when the actors are whispering like Bruce Willis so often does. And music comes through beautifully in full stereo. My wife is loving this system because I no longer ask her to tell me what someone just said--never. Sometimes she asks me that. And the audio is just as clear three rooms away inside my home and 70-80 feet or so down the driveway outside. The manual describes several methods for connecting the system to your TV set with 3.5mm (1/8"), RCA or external microphone connections. We have have a 55" Visio TV with a 3.5mm audio out jack that works perfectly with this Sennheiser system.I will update this review in future to report on longevity and any problems that develop. And I'll also report on whether my hearing aids, once they are reset, work directly with this system. However, as long as the system continues to work so well with my own headphones, it will keep its five-star rating from me regardless of whether it ever works directly with my hearing aids.UPDATE (December 2013): After nine months of use, everything works just as perfectly as it did on day one. I have since learned that my hearing aids cannot be set up with a manual t-coil switch, so I could not get them to work with my Sennheiser system . . . UNTIL I mounted two small pieces of magnetic tape on my glasses right against where my hearing aids are. THAT activated the t-coils in my aids and--presto--with my Sennheiser system I could hear the TV directly into my hearing aids with no headphones necessary. The t-coil sound is clean and clear, but it is not in stereo as the Sennheiser system is with headphones, so movie music doesn't sound nearly as good. But I hear the dialogue loud and clear either way. I generally use the headphones when it's just the two of us watching a movie. But when family and friends come over to watch sports, a movie or whatever, I generally use the t-coil system so I'm not sitting there with headphones on all night. This Sennheiser system is one of the very best purchases I've EVER made -- and I'm 69.

Sennheiser SET840-S Wireless Listening System
I bought this product because I have used Sennheiser wireless head phones for many years and have always been impressed with their quality and the excellent sound reproduction. I now wear high-end within-the-ear hearing aids to correct a severe hearing loss and the Sennheiser SET840-S wireless system is designed to transmit a wireless radio signal from the sending unit connected to a TV, Home Theater System, or audio playback system directly to Telicoil equiped hearing aids. The SET840-S sending unit also sends a radio signal to compatible Sennheiser wireless head phones, and the Body Pac receiver worn around the neck (and which is included with the SET840-S system) also has a mini-plug port into which pretty much any wired head phone set can be plugged and used as well.I have found the sound quality of the SET840-S to be excellent with the older Sennheiser wireless RS-140 head phones I normally use with the original RS-140 sending unit plugged into the audio system of my computer -- so I therefore am actually using the older but compatible RS-140 wireless head phones with both the RS-140 wireless transmitting unit in another room with my computer and also often use the same headphones alone in another room with the SET840-S transmitting unit plugged into my Home Theater A/V receiver. I believe there are also other Sennheiser wireless head phones that will work with the SET840-S but one would have to check with Sennheiser to specifically determine which ones are compatible. When using Sennheiser compatible wireless head phones with the SET840-S it is not necessary to wear the SET840-S Body Pac Receiver around one's neck, but if one wishes to use universal "wired head phones", then it is necessary to wear the light and comfortable Body Pac receiver which has a mini-plug connection for wired head phones.Using the SET840-S in direct transmission mode via the Body Pac receiver which retransmits a wireless radio signal to the Telicoils built into many hearing aids (so head phones are not needed for listening with the SET840-S), I did find that I had to have my audiologist re-adjust the telecoil computer programs in my hearing aids to enhance sound quality for the telicoils in my hearing aids. But once that was quickly and easily done in his office, I found that particular part of the Sennheiser SET840-S system also worked well, and in combination with the speech intelligibility adjustments I note below, I was actually able to hear and understand speech somewhat better than when using head phones with the SET840-S. These varied ways of using the SET840-S make the system very versitile, and it is even possible to use Sennheiser compatible wireless head phones and also universal wired head phones simulataneously so two people can therefore make use of the SET840-S transmitting unit at the same time. And for the substantially hearing impaired such as myself, the SET840-S transmitting unit has multiple adustable settings for treble-boost and sound-compression to enhance speech intelligibility, and the Body Pac receiving unit also has a convenient volume control and a left/right audio balance control. I would note, however, that this fine instrument does have a limit in the volume of the audio it can reproduce. With my approximate 90+% mid- and upper-frequency hearing loss I am definitely at the upper end of what the Sennheiser SET840-S is capable of doing for my hearing loss, but in fairness to this fine product I have to say that I believe the sound volume of my within-the-ear hearing aids is rather limited and that the far higher sound amplification provided by external behind-the-ear hearing aids would very likely overcome the limitation some might have with in-the-ear hearing aids.
