Are the hooks supporting the bar strong enough to hold towels instead?

It would probably hold a hand towel, but isnt wide enough for a larger towel.

How can I get the metal pieces that you attached to the front of the wooden part? Toilet paper rod and hooks for the rod didn’t come with it.
