Maytama Coffee Is Nothing Short of Incredible!
I was served this coffee at someone's home and was utterly astonished by how good it was. First, let me just say that this is not the dark black coffee that you are used to. It's a medium amber color that almost looks like a dark tea. I'm told that this is because the dark black coffees that most of us are familiar with actually come to be that way because the beans are over-roasted. According to their website, these beans are roasted by hand to perfection, which accounts for the color and the coffee's unique flavoring. I generally take my coffee with a touch of cream and one sugar, but was so intrigued by the amber hue that I sipped it before adding anything and was so happy that I did since cream and sugar were not needed! I tasted someone else's coffee who'd added a flavored cream and I personally think that the cream ruined the experience, so I opted to stick with my straight amber cup. This coffee had a very smooth earthy flavor that I almost want to describe as chocolaty or maybe even nutty...it had a lot of different layers. It was so unique that it's hard to describe, but it was delicious! I'm not a coffee connoisseur and I understand that this is considered a luxury coffee made for palates capable of distinguishing its superb quality, but even as a non-connoisseur, I have to say that I could sense the layers in this coffee's body. I kid you not that while I was sipping, I thought that I was tasting coffee-- actual coffee as in its true essence-- for the very first time. I was also struck by how bold and clean the flavor was, yet it was not the least bit overpowering. Oh, and another thing, you know how you sometimes get that bitter aftertaste with black coffee? That wasn't the case with this coffee although I was prepared for it since I drank it without a drop of cream or sugar. There's a little tangy aftertaste, but it's definitely not bitter like with most (even very high end) coffees. I also noticed that the caffeine jolt that usually follows coffee didn't come right away, but struck me about a half hour after I'd finished drinking it. The jolt also didn't make me feel the least bit jittery or regretful about drinking it on an empty stomach. Speaking of which, this is a coffee that doesn't feel hard on the stomach at all. I am seriously in love with Maytama coffee and can't wait to try it again.

Soft and lingering taste, pleasant aftertaste.
A very lightly roasted and mild bean with a truly unique taste. It produced a cappuccino with an insufficient crème and too mild a taste so this is not for espresso or cappuccino addicts. However, the taste was soft and lingering with a pleasant aftertaste and very little bitterness. Bottom line... the most interesting and unique of the coffees I have tried recently.

I think this coffee is excellent. I drink it hot and iced. Something different and a bit unique.
