Shepherd Hardware 9071 7/8-Inch Plastic Furniture Socket

We had a roll about stool. The factory welded an end cap on each leg with a threaded center nut that received a threaded caster. The tack weld broke on one leg and the caster fell off. The legs were 1/2" diameter hollow tubes. I cut off 1/2" of each tube and thus the welded end cap as well. I inserted these plastic sockets into the tube end and then casters. Worked fine and saved $150 stool Casters were from the Shepherd as well, from my local big box hardware store. (Shepherd 2 in. Black Plastic and Steel Twin Wheel Swivel Stem Caster with 75 lb. Been meaning to replace the lost wheels and realized I only have one socket left. Measured the pipes and hoped for the best with this. Almost didn't fit...until I used my hammer and the metal shaved the extra edges. Now there's room for more shoes below!

This older bedframe uses these larger, hard to find inserts. They insert into the frame perfectly but are a pain to get onto the caster stem. VERY tight but works perfectly once on. I found that warming them in hot water and using a silicone gel lube made it a bit easier. I do recommend them if you have the patience!

This product worked as advertised. At first I ordered the next size up which I considered modifying (I couldn't return because I had opened package before I realized my mistake). In the end I decided it would just be easier to order the correct size. They snapped right in using a little friendly persuasion with a rubber mallet. I was able to snap the casters in and everything works fine. Nice snug fit, they should outlast me. Oh, by the way I used them in an old iron bed.

Right item wrong size. Not size I needed. Size needed was not one I could get. Actually found it at local hardware.

These allowed me to make a plant stand mobile. Works as advertised, good stuff.

They were a perfect fit

Beware! Listed size is not accurate. See photos. Inner-diameter of “female” chair leg is 3/4”. Product states insert for 3/4”. It is too small - about 1/8” .

After reading some of the reviews, many wrote that they were too small in diameter, so I bought the size up also just in case. But these were actually a bit too snug...as it says in the description of the product. I used a hammer to get them all the way in (and a bit of the plastic pealed off). I was worried that it would cause the folding table I use as a desk to be wobbly. BUT once I put the casters in...but they were PERFECT!! No wobble whatsoever. This was a DIY project because I didn't want to buy a standing desk, and I needed to be able to move the desk around also for what I do. With this, and an extra liftable riser on the tabletop, this worked out perfectly.

Si les recomiendo comprar estos tapones para colocar llantas. Estuve haciendo unos experimentos lamentablemente fallidos tratando de usar hule para fijar las llantas que van roscadas aqui. Finalmente me convenci de comprar estos que SON para esto. Procuren comprar medida de 1" para los tubos Metro, aunque parece que son de 3/4" en tubo nominal comercial, la medida que les queda es de 1" en estos tapones. Si compran de menor medida no les quedaran.

I'm using these to fit casters to 3/4" pipes (furniture project). Either the piping is too small or these sockets are very snug, I can't get them to become flush even with a hammer. But it's holding the casters in place.

Perfect fit

These sockets would work if they were manufactured to the correct size. They are not the size that they describe in the details. They are a bit too small for the tubes of my chair, even though I measured using a digital caliper. I had found a way to make them fit but I should have to do this if they were the correct size. Confirm the correct size you need and maybe go one size up when ordering. These should be a tight fit and need to be inserted with a small/light hammer.
